Root ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 (file system/recovery utility) update 01/12/12 FIXED

I saw the update made on Jan 12th today, and I have a question:

- Do I need to install this, and if so, since I already have it installed from a previous install of gb-rt-cwm5-kk1-a2sd.zip (inigo's 2step method version of http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...rktremor-a2sd-prevail-updated-11-18-11-a.html

Do I need to install this using the "Update" method as stated on the first post for the install:

?

sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, just want to be certain about it.
-thanks-.

you dont have to install it but if I want to install it you can do it with the update method

OK... I'm new. You Dev make things awesome! So I need a laptop to do this? I'm surprised I rooted without issue but cwm eludes me... am I missing a link??

Yes you need a Windows based computer to do this

you download the zip file and unzip it on your computer

the zip file has everything you need inside of it

Samsung driver

I been nosing around a while. Honored to have your instructions and hard work! Is your kernal ej06 friendly? I thought Odin was a gonner. You rock!

Now to get this damn market to let me get Apps... incompatible device message is irritating. I'd like acsupdater but to no avail. (Ejo6 2.3.5)

What's ur address? Ill mail some coffee, LOL. Just add hot water!

Odin not a gonner

Odin is a utility that loads an image of a partition to an actual partitiom

In the case of ClockWorkMOD it will load the recovery partition replacing the limited recovery software that Samsung loads on the system

After you get ClockWorkMod installed I suggest you either try CTMod or CyanogenMOD 7

Those are custome ROMS that we have made for the Prevail, which make the phone work better

There are other custome ROMS but they are either based on CM7 or CTMod and I have not tested them yet

There are a lot of cool people on this forum that are willing to help a new person, but we encourage you to do as much reading as possible so that you will learn about this hobby and be able to contribute, and some day help some new person that needs help

I end my posts with a clear plan.....

1. Cwm via Odin as stated above.
2. Cyanogenmod7 (reading on that now)
3. Load PayPal and donate.. its the right thing...but be patient... I'm in Michigan and poor...

Mr. Hroark, thank you.

DJ.

yippy me!!!! first rom installed..... ctmod...

wow, very zippy!!! Takes a few to learn where all my stuff is at. but all and all, very neat!

downloaded cwm from link above.
unzipped into its own folder
opened odin.
one package option checked
put .ops file in ".ops" box
put other file in "one package"" box

click start

i also installed stick.zip (from odin thread)

very very very important to follow odin thread during the reboot. i kept forgetting to hold vol up and power before it rebooted.

you guys rock!!! makes my phone alot more fun when i can change stuff like this.

gonna try out cm7. i like its looks better. either way, i can change it back in a snap!!!!

A round of beers for the geeks who tweak!!!!!
use one package option

Sorry hroark13, you said I don't have to, but if I want to, I can.

But what does that mean? -I mean, will I be missing something important if I do Not, or it will not matter?

thanks.

The new version 5.0.2.7 does add a new ability (backup restore boot partition), so I would install if I were you

If you already have CWM you can just do the update

dwn loaded the file, unzipped and find 4 files. odin, usb drivers, cwm odin fix.tar (7.08mb), and sphm820 (105 bytes).

i see no phone.tar. does this sound right?

my unzip took a lil while. so i wanna make sure before i start.

thanks, Dale

you install it using the one package option in odin. that is why there is only the one(package) lol
odin
drivers
ops
recovery (one package integration)

do i use the .ops file or the .tar? the ops file comes up by default. says check image..

nevermind... i missed the image file option. fixed!!!!

Hroark, quick question for ya. I recently update my CWM via the update zip, went through fine and everything, but I made a new back up and was testing out some things, and when I rebooted into CWM and tried to use my newest back up I got md5sum mismatch error, but my last back up made with the 5.0.2.6 went through fine. Any ideas? Should I try to re flash the update, or maybe use the Odin version?

the backup that you made that does not restore

in the clockworkmod folder on the sd card
do the backup files look like the right size?
what file do you have and what are there sizes

can you try to do another backup and restore to see what happens

I have been trying to do this sequence for a few hours now. I am a noob, and rooting seems to have gone well. I can not get to cwm following the sequence above. I did once, but had unzipped stick, and since I put it on phone properly, I can not get back to it, just to the basic root menu. also sometimes odin fails me, saying my partition is too large, other times it runs for 2 plus minutes, when should I hit the vol up and power buttons, I think I got lucky the first time. thanks in advance

After odin resets the phone and it starts to boot, hold power/vol up and if done correctly you should be in CWM. Thats when you flash the stick.zip.
