CM 10.1 - Jellybean 4.2.2

I know CM 10.1 for the t989 is still a work in progress, so if you are looking to gauge 10.1 on reviews then you can skip mine.

I love this phone, it does everything I want from a phone/hand held computer.

However since 10.1 came out I have been having a bitch of a time using Youtube and my camera, however with CM's reputation they will bang out the bugs, So I am sitting back and using CM 10 until it is finalized.

Same issues here. I dled pudding camera but you can DL just about and camera app and it will work great. For the other issue with YouTube. Delete and reinstall YouTube app then boot to recovery and fix permissions. Voila no more issues!

Only real problem I've been having with the latest builds is transferring files over usb. The phone will lock up every time.

And several games of mine freeze up now. I went back to the 2/26 build as it seems to have the fewest problems.

I just switched over to aokp avatar e based on 4.2.2 no problems other than sorting out the call issue. Just unclick and click noise suppression and reboot. ;)

I dled camera fx app. I like it. And I noticed 10.1 doesn't work well with CPU Sleeper app. Lol. It puts the phone in a deep sleep and have to take out the battery to reboot. Tried stock kernel and cerux. I can live without it ....... I guess...... Highly recommend the cerux kernel. Got crazy benchmark scores with it.

Got a question.. I installed cm10.1 on my friends s2. I guess he is having problems figuring out how to send multiple texts messages. Any tips I can pass along to him? Thanks

Yeah, uninstall 10.1 and reinstall 10.0 until the final version of 10.1 comes out.

I flashed cm-10.1.0-RC5-hercules.zip, the release candidate and gapps 1212. Now my phone is constantly booting with the cyanogenMod spinner and wont load up. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums tspot :hello:

10.1 is a 4.22 android ROM. Use gapps 0301 and see if that fixes it. Link is in the OP. Also what recovery are you using? Newer recoveries work best with jellybean Roms.

Not sure what recovery Im using, I rooted my phone back when I got it about a year and a half ago. Any way I can tell, and how do I change a recovery now that I already have one.

Cheers,
T

Yeah I would say you have an old recovery. :D

Since you're already rooted, the easiest way would be to download rom manager and let it install a newer ClockworkMod recovery, or what I would recommend, download GooManager from the Play Store, open it and tap your menu button. Select "Install OpenRecoveryScript". Give it a few minutes to download and it will install TWRP recovery. TWRP is really easy to use and works better with Jellybean roms.

I noticed in your other thread that if Im on Gingerbread I cant use the TWRP and I should move up to Jelly Bean first. Does that still apply if I use GooManager to get it?

Oh ok. Yes I would highly recommend going to Jellybean. You can follow this guide, http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-t-mobile/628449-how-odin-any-stock-rom.html to install Jellybean. Backup any apps first that you don't want to have to redownload.

You will have to reroot. Its really easy with Jellybean and TWRP. Read this guide to do that.

Alright, of course I started downloading the ics rom by accident and now I cant download another file for 30min from that site. I guess Ill get back to you later if I still am having problems.

In the meantime would you suggest that Release Candidate version of CyanogenMod would be the best for me if I want stable every day use. Im not looking to mess around too much.

I haven't ran CM 10.1 in a while, but the release candidate is supposedly the most stable. You could install it, make a backup in recovery and try newer nightlies and if they have a problem just restore your backup. After you install jellybean and root it, be sure to make a backup in recovery of that. Its always good to have so you can restore it if you have problems with CM 10.1.

I just plugged into Kies to backup my contacts to outlook. It told me I had a firmware update. Because I have rooted I do not want to do that correct? I want to install everything myself from now on?

T

Yes, you could use Kies. It will just unroot you and you'll have to reroot. I've used Kies before when rooted. I think Odin is easier myself and I prefer a clean install as opposed to doing a Kies update. Getting an update with Kies won't clear out all your downloaded apps, but, you often have to do a factory reset anyway to clear up bugs after an update.

So its really your choice. :)

You said you have not run CM 10.1 in a while. What have you been using lately? I want my phone to have good battery life and performance. I use mostly my audioplayer and the web browser.

Also do any of these custom roms have swype? because Ive been using swype for a year and a half and Im not sure if I could do without. But I will if I have to get better perfornmace.

I bought the Galaxy S4 the end of April so I've been using it.

On my S2, I mostly ran CM 10.1 nightlies. I can't remember if it has swype, but you can buy it for 99 cents and install it (if you haven't bought it already). CM 10.1 ran great. The only problem I remember is hooking it to my laptop would cause it to lock up.

I also ran rooted stock a lot too and think that's another good option. Being rooted you can delete a lot of the bloat apps and still have a smooth stock rom.

Cool, would you have a link to a list that I should delete if I want to go the root of just removing the bloat from the stock?

Thanks again, Ive got the Jellybean stock installed and Im just backing up so that I can try CM 10.1 again.

Cheers,

So I got CM 10.1 installed and just in the few minutes I had the stock JB rom installed I noticed that it was sluggish and stuttery. The CM 10.1 is really smooth and so far I really like it. Though for the life of me I can not find the usb debugging mode that Titanium keeps telling me to turn on.

Thanks for all your help in getting me updated.
