Help Connect via WIFI problems

Firstly hi and what ag reat forum. Iwas reading through some of this thread as i have had the same prob, i have bnot hd to time to read all 4 pages aso sorry os this has already been said, but i found if you are using a router go to settings wireless controls and then click wi-fi settings when you are in the tap the menu key and go to advanced, near the bottom part of this page it has an option for static ip, select that then if you can (sorry this changes depending on the distro) enter your I.P. adress and then enter your netmask, on windows XP i found this in the network settings click the current icon that is connecting you and look at you bottom left on that window and it will have to lots of numbers one is your I.P. the next number is your sub netmask (yes the same as netmask). This worked for me and i now have blazing fast internet in the house at last lol, i hope this helps some people :)

Hi,

First of all thanks for the lot of useful information in this forum.

My story:
1. I've owned a Gigabyte GN-BR01G router: HERO connects to the router, but no internet connection at all.

2. Bought a Linksys WRT54G2. HERO connected to the router, internet OK. Problem is that it frequently dropped while showing everything OK, but no internet connection. Other problem is that no signal in the upper floor. And something interesting: some web pages are can't be loaded. example: PORT.hu - (it is a hungarian site, but it is good if you want to check)

3. Went back to the store and changed it to a Belkin F5D8233qs4. Connection is OK, internet is OK, no drop in the last 6 hours, signal is OK also in the upper floor. Internet is faster, and I can't find any site which is not loaded properly. This router is much better than the Linksys I've tried.

I hope my comment helped to somebody.

Hi

Same problem here with Zyxel P-2602HW-D1A and my hero. Also tryed a NorthQ wlan router, this will connect with open network (no wpa, wep..) but still no data !! Think that i have tryed every settings now. Also tryed an open network in the neighbourhood... no data.. browser won't even load a google page :-(

Solution -> Did a "factory reset", and my HTC Hero now works with Both Routers :-)

Best regards

did you use any program to back up data? I guess factory reset wipe data, but still... want to be sure...:) ...does it wipe sim data as well?

Hi

trouble again... finished first test at 02:30 this morning and it worked fine in the morning.. now i have restarted the zyxel twice and got it working again.. But now it refuses to connect and when connected there is no data transfer. I will try a factury reset again.. bum bum bum,,,,, restarting... nope... connection "unsuccesfull"... AAAAAARRRRRGGGGG

Hope there will be a new firmware soon..

I started conversation with HTC support about wifi problems we all are having.. The only thing they recommend is
Regarding the Wi-Fi issue, kindly follow the instructions below:
Please ask the IT administration to insert the MAC address of your device into the router.
Not working fo me...

What I found using packet tracing, was http traffic going to "10.254.254.10". This is of course not a valid address on the Internet.
This IP is actually the Web proxy of my ISP, and I found it in Settings->Wireless->Mobile network settings->Access Point Names->[Something]

I fixed this by removing the proxy IP, then menu->Save. After a disconnect and restart of browser I can browse the web through WiFi!

I got answer from HTC:

"Thank you for contacting us,
Regarding the issue you're facing, can you kindly restart the handset in safe mode (power off the device, press & hold "Menu" while powering it on) and check if the issue still persists. "

you might try it, but for me: ISSUE STILL PERSITS!!!!!

Hi

Okay installed a ping applikation on my Hero, and did some pinging.

Zyxel router pinged 10 times at 192.168.1.1, lost 7 packages. More test show that 3 out of 10 lost, 5 lost.... and so on. answer time is between 15ms - 688ms.
Edimax (NorthQ9100) router pinged 10 times at 192.168.2.1, lost 0 packages. Never one package lost, and answer time i typical <100ms.

Could this be why the Zyxel wlan interface doesn't work with the Hero ? Ping the two routers from pc wlan card, show 2-3ms and newer a package lost!

I am now testing a setup with Zyxel lan connection -> Edimax wan connection -> Hero connected to Edimax wlan.

Zyxel "Any Ip" flag set. Don't know if it is needed.
Edimax internet connection set to "static ip" and selected a ip outside dhcp pool.
Hero connect right away but no homepage is loaded. I can connect to router web interface so perhaps DNS ?
Hero set to static IP and DNS.

Bing.... Ekstra Bladet - Nyheder, sport og underholdning shows up.

Now ping program also can ping Ekstra Bladet - Nyheder, sport og underholdning without a package lost.

Hope this config works more than 24hours :-)

Best regards

great effort... but... I wanna be able to connect in hotel, on airport, wherever I usually connect with my lap top, and my friend with his iphone... I am not touching my router, it has to connect as it is... what I want to say, htc must be able to solve this or it would be big minus for hero... wating so long for solution already is a big minus...

Hi

@zeze999, yes its far from a good solution! HTC can only make this better... i hope. Static IP works great, at home, but why didn't HTC include an "static ip" button for each known network? visited my brother, an connected to his router, no internet because the Hero is set to "static ip" with a not usable ip adress.

@HTC, if anyone at htc reads this.... please make this better in ECLAIR !!!

best regards

hi there, when i tried to connect my HTC Hero to my DLink DIR-615, it prompted for a password....problem is, i dun remember having enabled a password...unless it is referring to the admin password to access the AP, which i tried, doesnt work..can anyone here advise? thanks.

hi slug, no,pretty sure. i enabled both my WAP and WAP2. i tried entering the key for WAP2, didnt work too. its also a pain to enter this key, is there a copy and paste feature in the Hero that i can use?

A long-press on selected text will bring up a menu with a "copy" option, while doing the same on a text-entry box usually gives one to "paste". I haven't tried it with wi-fi encryption keys, but other standard Android dialogues follow this convention.

hi slug, thanks again.i wonder if this cut and paste works on PDF documents, i shall give it a try!

I had a hard time connecting to my Netgear rangemax router for some days until I changed to a new pass phrase that didn't include numbers. Now everything works as it should!

Hope it can help someone!

I was having the same issue as everyone else on this thread and finally solved it for my Samsung Moment phone. Hopefully it will help you all too. I have two Linksys wrt54g routers. My home router has DHCP disabled and uses 128 bit WEP encryption. My work router has DHCP enabled with WPA Personal encryption. Both routers have different firmware versions since they are about two years apart in age. Everything worked great at home with no issues. When I tried to access the work router my phone would connect to it but I could not access the internet. Other devices such as Ipod Touch, laptops, iPhone, and Palm Pre did not have any problems, which really aggravated me. After reading the threads here I pieced together the problem and solution. After going into Settings/Wireless controls/Wi-Fi settings and quickly tapping on the network name I noticed the IP address assigned to the phone was 192.168.1.28 which is from my home router. My work router uses DHCP starting at 192.168.11.100. Apparently the phone was somehow locked into the home router, but how to change it? I tapped the Menu button and went into the Advanced menu and there was the solution. I had “Use static IP” checked! I unchecked it and everything works great. When I go home I simply check the “Use static IP” and it picks up my home router perfectly. I uncheck it when I go to other wi-fi hotspots and all works great. I hope this keeps some people from going crazy. :)

Hi all

I've had my Htc hero for 5 months now, up to 1 week ago my wirless connection worked fine, now when i connect to wireless i can get into the internet it will work fine for a couple of minutes but if i try to bring up a new page i get "web page not available" it has happen with a number of different web sites and i've checked my wirless settings everything is fine and i have no problems connecting to ther devices.

Anything you can suggest i'll try. Thanks for listening.

the solution is at last found for me...
Just run
adb shell ip link set tiwlan0 mtu 1300
and that's IT

Does that change the MTU setting on the router? Is it the MTU that's causing the problem? Perhaps different routers have different MTU settings by default...
