Firstly hi and what ag reat forum. Iwas reading through some of this thread as i have had the same prob, i have bnot hd to time to read all 4 pages aso sorry os this has already been said, but i found if you are using a router go to settings wireless controls and then click wi-fi settings when you are in the tap the menu key and go to advanced, near the bottom part of this page it has an option for static ip, select that then if you can (sorry this changes depending on the distro) enter your I.P. adress and then enter your netmask, on windows XP i found this in the network settings click the current icon that is connecting you and look at you bottom left on that window and it will have to lots of numbers one is your I.P. the next number is your sub netmask (yes the same as netmask). This worked for me and i now have blazing fast internet in the house at last lol, i hope this helps some people
