Coronavirus global pandemic

So, Massachusetts has gone to shelter in place, unless you are in one of the exempt categories, which include Dunkin Donuts, Packies (liquor stores for you non New Englanders), and nine more pages of employers where you can still go to work. So, tomorrow at noon when it takes effect Massachusetts will pretty much look like it does today.

I'm sure if you dig through the whole 9 pages there are other questionable "exempts," but those are the ones that stood out to me.

UK in lockdown as of tomorrow, review after 3 weeks.
Of course our PM refuses to call it a lockdown, but that's what the measures annouced add up to.
Probably a good thing given the way large numbers of people have shown that they aren't capable of understanding what the rules are and that yes, they do actually apply to them as well.

I heard it on the radio. Yup.

Governor Wolf made his stay-home recommendation an order for Philadelphia and the 5 surrounding counties. That includes the location of my place of employment. However my home is outside the mandatory stay-home area. Doesn't matter as we are an essential business, so I have to go to work as usual. Except now I have to carry a letter from my employer stating i am an essential employee for an essential business ... essentially.

I have to believe that none of this would be necessary if people weren't entitled special snowflakes who think the rules are for everyone else. Even today there were far too many cars out on the road. :(

STAY THE F%#K HOME, PEOPLE!!!!

I know I'd love to.

The Department for Education here has just tweeted a warning about a scam email that's doing the rounds:

Can anyone spot the logical error in this?

None at all... it's the Ammer-cuhn way. You see the Vice-President himself has said that NO U.S. Citizen will pay for coronavirus testing, yet in order to get tested you must provide three things ... a valid ID, a prescription from an MD requiring the test and your insurance card. Irony is a terrible thing to waste.

No kidding. Last week I was really pissed when I saw coverage from Clearwater, Florida, where my husband and I lived many moons ago. The spring breakers were partying it up, totally oblivious to how their behavior can adversely affect many others--to say nothing of themselves. As of yesterday, 80% of CV cases are 18-65.

Then here, locally, while watching Mayor Garcetti's daily update on KNBC, they had a split-screen, Garcetti on one side and live footage from one of their helicopters on the other. Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice were busy as usual: people swimming, surfing, playing beach volleyball--banging into each other--working out, etc. PCH was packed. I mean bumper-to-bumper packed like any other day.

Un-f@#$*&^-believable!

its crazy how the numbers in NY have ballooned up. NY is at 20,000+ cases right now. that is 10x that of California with 2,000+.....that is insane!!!!!!!! they are expecting that number to skyrocket. they are looking for 140,000 beds so when that wave finally topples over, they have the capacity to take it on.

PLEASE NY STAY SAFE!!!!!!!!!

I've been waiting to hear specifics of who will receive those federal payments. Today there's some news about it, but it still doesn't answer my specific questions.

From KNBC today:
"Congress Likely to Send Taxpayers $1,200 Checks in Coronavirus Aid. Here’s Who Qualifies
<< snip >>
If you didn’t file a 2018 return, the government will use your 2019 information if it has it. That includes a 2019 Social Security benefit statement, or Form SSA-1099, or the Social Security Equivalent Benefit Statement, or Form RRB-1099.

Some individuals are specifically excluded from receiving payments. That includes non-resident aliens, individuals whose deductions can go to another taxpayer, and estates or trusts."

I haven't filed income tax in years, since becoming disabled. My SSDI--which I paid in to for decades--is non-taxable, and my other income doesn't reach the minimum required to file. So...what? Are Social Security recipients who don't file income tax getting these checks?

On another note, I have my house and main bank account in my trust. So my property tax statements are addressed to: The Jane Q Doe Living Trust, and my bank statements: Jane Q Doe, the Jane Q Doe Living Trust. Does this disqualify me?

Thanks, @ocnbrze. It's okay--I just read the answer to one of my questions; from the LA Times:

"People who receive no income or who have income entirely from benefits programs such as Social Security are eligible."

Now I just need clarification on the trust/estate issue.

Did you see the idiot in Texas who took a blowtorch to a stockpile of toilet paper? This was somehow supposed to promote his 'hunting ranch'--that's code for 'canned hunt'--but instead created a huge online backlash. Good.
