Custom (3rd Party) ROM: Revolution. Pros and Cons

I have just installed it without a full wipe, and haven't had a single problem yet. I'm quite impressed so far with the speed and smoothness. Time will tell of course....

Went to sleep with the battery at 100%, I was rudely woken up 7 hours later and the battery only dropped 2%. Wireless was on, so was bluetooth and I was using the kernel that came with the ROM. I'll test again tomorrow with the ninph kernel

I think anyone who says they have BLN working with stock sms is talking crap. Mine works with everything apart from stock sms. I have edited the BLN mod and got it working so anyone who wants the zip here it is. Flash in CWM.

EDIT - After countless posts of me moaning, Leo has updated the kitchen with the new BLN mod. I've not test his yet but the mod i uploaded works 100%

2.7.1 works perfectly for me. I had 2 hours of skype chatting yesterday and the battery only dropped 10% with screen always on during that period.

I'm using CF root kernel at the moment. Will see if Speedmod or Nimp are even better tomorrow

I'm on siyrah but too early to judge battery yet.
I charged to 100% overnight and did a calibration this morning so I'm going to thrash it today to get it back down to 0% then charge it fully again and see how much it drops overnight.

I'm not one who does benchmarks so I can't day for sure if ki3 is quicker. Perhaps its a placebo affect but it does seem slightly more responsive but not in a "wow" sort of way.

I've got quite a large number of wake locks currently but I always seem to get lots of these when I boot up for the first time of the day then after a few hours they seem to basically coincide with screen on time. I'll have to keep my eye on this throughout the day. Strange why this happens but I've always seemed to have this.

Quite heavy use throughout the day, normally I would be on 30% by now after quite a lot of browsing, phone calls and downloads.

I'm on 50%, now that I am *impressed* with, I have even flashed two kernels, backed up and recovered. This ROM is awesome

I flashed this via CWM and it doesn't seem to work at all. Am I missing something here? Am I using the wrong kernel? I'm currently on XXKI3.

But to not get off track here, this ROM is great so far. I don't have any complaints, and my phone does seem a bit snappier (although perhaps its just placebo), either way I'm happy with it :D

You need to have a bln compatible kernel like ninph or siyah and you also need to download the bln app from the market and enable notifications in there.

As for this theme I want to try it but how would I get back to a stock theme? I've asked the question a long time back in the revolution thread but everyone ignores me!

I've never found an easy way to get back to stock theme. The only thing I can think of its to reflash the ROM, or make a nandroid before.

Just wanted to let everyone know the BLN mod posted in the KitchenPro works great with the stock messaging application. Im using SiyahKernel v1.7.7.

Has anyone got the Swype 3 mod to work? I have a feeling that I can't as I uninstalled Swype so I could use Swype beta. So was wondering if its my phone or the mod

seems flavour of the day has been siyah kernel, but......

everyone on xda seems to be raving about the stock kernel.

leo thinks more stable and better battery.

comments on there that to get full benefit of 2.3.5 need to use the stock kernel rather than switching to kernels based on old source codes...??

all the devs/hard-core users seem to be using the stock kernel

tempted to switch back but don't want to loose bln. mmmmm, what to do???

I had to switch back to the cfroot kernel as I couldn't get loads of things to flash using the cwm that comes with siyah. I know its early days but battery sems slightly better. It hasnt dropped while writing this so alls good so far.

I swapped over a few hours ago. Early signs are great and now realize was getting wifi issues before. Has been a big improvement switching to stock kernel (so far)

I'm still usying the Siyah kernel, you guys think it is worth the switch back? Only reason I have this kernel is for BLN. Would it be difficult to modify the stock kernel to include BLN functionality?

I installed it but I haven't noticed any differences, what should I be looking for?

I got it working in the end. First of all it wouldn't flash due to the cwm that comes with the siyah kernel. Maybe check your swype number in manage applications to see if it's 3.8something as it always looked like it flashed but actually didn't. Then I got a load of force closes as Swype beta had been on my phone. After giving up it it just appeared after updating a few apps from the market.

24hrs in, stock kernel AWESOME - much quicker/more stable than siyah and ninphet, and so far this morning after 4 hrs, 30mins browsing, some texting/emails, still on 97%

it's damn good.

Hi,

I just installed revolutiom rom and it's awesome. The minor issue is that it seemed to unfreeze SAMSUNG APPS. Is it safe to freeze it again with this ROM ?

thanks
