Custom (3rd Party) ROM: Revolution. Pros and Cons

I'm having major problems with Rev KI3 atm :( I came from villain 3.0, did a wipe then installed the rom. I kept loosing root access for some reason, cleared data on supersuer app, allowed root again and still same thing! I wiped again, reinstalled, phone kept crashing! So im now on my 3rd wipe!!

Touch wood, only issue i had so far is downloading mods via kitchen would hang.
I cleared cache etc for kitchen and now seems to be working.

Why not try manually flashing CF-Root-KI3 via odin?
 
Ok, i've just restored all my apps again and everything seems ok so far. Need to install nipho now and some tweeks, fingers crossed.


EDIT - Nope i'm getting crashes again, looks like ill be going back to Villain, what a shame :(
 
I flashed straight over the top of villain 3.0 without a wipe and everything seems fine so far. Maybe try the siyah kernel, I flashed that straight after and no problems.
 
Seems that other people are getin the same issues, its to do with the kitchen app. Seems ok now, just keep my eye on it. BLN for sms is not working either.
 
BLN not working for me neither.
I've tried clearing system+delvik cache but to no avail.... :(

It works in the BLN app test's feature tho.

having weird/annoying problem with wifi- every 15 secs it disconnects (strong signal), 3G kicks in, then it reconnects. interupts whatever I'm doing. have switched off JD but wasn't this. any other ideas??
 
Seems there are quite a few bugs, no one will answer my posts on xda about the bln. Still debating whether or not to go back to villain until things are sorted.
 
Your lack of reply on the BLN issue is a little concerning steslatt.
Perhaps this should have been a full wipe job beforehand.

I'm going back to my 2.6 KH3 backup for the next several days until things settle down a bit, and until JKay has KI3'd his themes.
 
Re bln. Some reports on xda of similar problems. Others have it working on ninphet and siyah. They're suggesting uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling bln app.

Otherwise sends smooth and battery done well despite taking a battering since 2 pm.

Still no solution to my wifi issue though.

Syd, have you tried uninstalling the BLN market app and reinstalling? If so, did this solve it?

As for your wifi, what is your authentication type on your router? Is it WPA2 by any chance? and what is your encryption?

When I did have 2.7 on, wifi worked ok for me by the way

Wifi network is wpa/wpa2 psk. Worked fine on revolution 2.6 with ki3 modem, drops out on 2.7 with same modem. Weird.

Will try again with b sgln as lots seem to have it working.

Shotgun, did you do a full wipe before installing? If bugs continue think gonna try this and start again on 2.7
 
No I flashed it straight over the top of Villain ROM 3.0. That may have actually helped as villain was 2.3.5 aswell.

What does this mean mate? do you mean bln?

If you do get a solution then let us know.
Try uninstalling the BLN market app and re-install and see what happens. This is all I can think of, as I tried removing all the old revolution downloads, and i tried installing it as a single update but to no avail.

As for your authentication type, WPA2 automatically regenerates its authentication key at specified intervals. See what the interval is set to in your router. If its 15 seconds or so, then this could be the problem. Perhaps your device is losing track of this and hence dropping the connection. Try WEP and see what happens. You will have to forget your connection then reconnect of course.

Syd, have you checked Leo's Post yet regarding wifi?

EDIT: Revolution 2.7.1 (beta) is going up today
I'm sticking with 2.6 and leave it to the guinea pigs!

And whats with the XDA developers threads? I'm trying to post up my findings to Leo and it says I cant post as I am new member with fewer than 10 posts. Ok, I'm a new member there, but I've got myself up to 11 posts! :) ?????

EDIT: Its not looking good for Revolution 2.7 Leo is saying that there may be a problem with the leaked version of 2.3.5 and he might have to wait until the official release comes out. Isnt the official versions the ones on samfirmware tho? :confused:
 
I have gone back to 2.6, so many problems with 2.7 for me

I decided to let my good lady stick with the official samsung release, so we can compare battery usage etc. I have to say she isn't impressed that I get superior usage out of my galaxy, and she has to charge every evening :)
 
Nearly there with a silky smooth fully working 2.7.

Posted on xda re wifi, leo replied and got me to change some tweaks on the system files with root explorer and all good now. Impressive service from the dev. (good there too to see you on there too hawker!)

Just need to get bln working. Seems split 50.50 those who can and can't get it to work.

Otherwise finding it really slick, smooth and responsive, and for some reason mobile data (3g) etc seems so much quicker than before.

Happy days on 2.3.5
 
I posted above regarding your wifi issue sydknee!!! :D

I'm still going to stick to 2.6 for a while longer. Give the problems a chance to iron out, and also give JKay time to release KI3 version of his themes, as I really missed his tweaks and slider lock screen.

@Hawker, how is BLN for you? Have you jumped on 2.7.1 yet?
 
I'm still on 2.6 and probably stay on this until the problems have been ironed out aand jkay has updated his themes
