Root Custom recovery on x!!!!!!!

So if you are in a bootloop you just do a battery pull and it goes to recovery
Or if you want to try it power down your phone then when it gets to the M pull the battery and then turn it back on, it should boot into recovery

Now I can't make it happen again. What exactly do you do to boot into the custom recovery right after a battery pull???

Oh so the only way to get into the custom one is to have pressed the Bootstrap Recovery button once, and from then on you have to press the Reboot Recovery button to get into everytime?

I was confused because not one blog or site said exactly that lol.

And the recovery that it makes is EVERYTHING? Every app, menu setting, widget position, contact, text message, etc??? Does it leave anything out? How is this different from creating a full Titanium Backup and restoring it which I have done many times?

yes and no

Its like a system image, kind of like Norton Ghost almost. it doesn't work like ghost technically but the end results are the same. When you restore it is just like you never left. ALL is restored. Its great of testing and mucking around because you can always go back in a matter of minutes.

If you can boot your phone just open up the bootstrap app and press reboot recovery

But if you want to do the battery pull test, while your phone is turning on pull the battery, it should boot into recovery

Thanks for the reply.

So now I'm still wondering, how exactly do you boot into the Clockwork Recovery after a battery pull (as if you just bricked your phone or messed something up)? This is how we would do this necessary restore right (as long as you have the backup folder on your SD card in the right folder)?...

I made it work after the batt pull before but it was only after I did the key combo for recovery...now I can't make it work...

look above your post

Hmm, did that battery pull test and nothing....
...do I need to hit the bootstrap recovery button again? Or just once for it's whole life?

Wondering the same as I said. But how can you always anticipate having to press that button every time before using your phone in case you need to restore? There's got to be a way to always boot into the custom one, no?

Read the end of my last post, doesn't work with or without the key combo...I can't seem to boot right into the custom recovery as if I needed it to do a restore.

:p

So I just did this
turn off phone
turn on phone
waited till just before when I thought the red eye will come on then pulled the battery
booted into recovery

did you confirm that you can reboot into recovery with the app

Yeah works with the app, but seemingly no way without it.

If this was supposed to work, wouldn't koush have said it on his site???

Just turn it on. Some times I have to pull the battery during boot up to interrupt it though. but after that it seems to work every time. bug?

I just did it and it did in fact work. You have to wait a good 10-15 secs while on the M when booting and then pull the battery.

I did a backup right before this by accident (hit backup by accident). I assume it is coincidence that it worked after I did that and not before---seeing how you probably didn't do a backup just now.

Wow this is so weird, I turned the phone off, turned it on, pulled battery, turned on phone, booted regularly, turned phone off again , booted into recovery:confused:

So this is how we will be able to do this if we can't boot the phone? We will still be able to get to and past the Moto logo screen and everything to pull batt and get into custom recovery?

I still don't get why koush wouldn't have specifically told us how to get to it if using the damn thing depends on this perfect timing kick....anyone??

I am sure that if you were actually bootlooping it would work the first time

Well he does just say to pull the battery. Maybe you can write him and ask him if it's a bug or if there is a precise way it is supposed to be done...

Thought he said it had nothing to do with the recovery? now he's saying you need to install it via the recovery?.............
