Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

Perhaps someone can shed some light on this for me:

Somehow my maps.apk got updated and died. After killing processes and cache I uninstalled maps with TB. I then proceeded to reinstall from the zip provided on page 1 using CWM. I reboot and run maps and it gets as far as zoning in on my area and then it freezes. If I touch anything it takes a sec then asks to wait or FC. I have attempted to install the apk provided in the zip by means of CWM, ADB PUSH and just plain copy paste reboot method with Root explorer all yielding the same turnout.

With every method of install I immediately checked the version number of maps.apk and it comes up 6.0.3 every time and that sounds wrong. I may be losing it in my old age but I could have sworn the stable apk was version 5 something. I also tried pulling maps from the removed apps zip on the same page as googlemaps zip, both get the same results.

Any insight to this issue would be most appreciated.

Use version 5.8.0

Not sure which version is in the zip.

You can find it using Google. May already be posted here somewhere.

Just install it as an APK and everything will run fine.

Make sure that Market is set to not auto update Maps.

Phone is running excellent since I flashed the original hroark sd-ext solution kernel on top of Beta 5.

Was running excellent before too, just with the occasional rare phantom reset. Minor irritation really in the cosmic scheme of things. LOL.

CM7 Beta 5 with sd-ext data partition ROCKS!

I did put ADW EX back on. LOL.

yeah BD was saying it was a bad idea because both kernels had the sd-ext and it could cause issues. For the most part they are pretty similar.

I have not looked at CTMOD in a while. But, it ain't nothing like CM7, unless it has changed a lot.

I suspect that CTMOD is ahead of this version of CM7 in some tweaks and overall probably more stable. But, try out CM7 and elaborate if you have time.

I have admiration for both Roms, but see No compelling reason to switch back now. Convince me. Lol.

Are you saying that using sd-ext as the entire data partition is a bad idea in general? If so, why?

Oh, and Monster, I really appreciate your considerable contributions to this forum, but your Avatar makes it very hard to concentrate. Please, do not change it. Unless...

Hmmm Very intriguing post. Please elaborate...Lol.

Seriously. I value your opinions.
it is nice to be valued, :o
This is wild speculation and not really ready for "prime time" but I would suspect its the order the sd card is brought "online" I have not looked into this very much since my last post. I think the sd card may take extra time to "initialize" maybe internal checks? disk checking type of activity's.

I guess it's personal preference. Cm7 mod uses a newer gb version which is y it benchmarks better. I like that I can swipe individual notifications off without clearing all of them. I like being able to clear vm notifications. I like that there's no need for s2e/a2sd because it's built in. I really like being able to change my themes using theme manager w/o being restricted.

Neither have ciq.

The b5 come minimal with zeam just like ctmod so its an easy transition.

Otherwise cm7 doesn't have haptic feedback in the 4 main hard buttons and mms doesn't work on wifi which I could truly.care less about.

But honestly just try them both out. U have nothing to lose. Evn ur sd-ext partion will transfer over

I have considered this too. No really, I have. LOL.

I have been trying to remember if there was a pattern in my actions before the three times that it happened. Not really sure, I do so many things out of habit.

My hunch, (hunch?, what hunch?), and it is just a hunch is that I was playing with CWM just prior to it.

This may be a blind alley, but I could have made a Backup, or cleared battery stats, or something else possibly by mistake, but not three times.

Clear Dalvik cache? Mount or Dismount (or is that only for, uh, horses?). All possibilities.

I let the battery run until it died at least twice. Not sure if the reset happened after I swapped batteries.

Sooo how did you guys get it to work for it to open the theme chooser ? all i can do is download themes but i cant apply them because it wont go to that screen.

First ,
you must have either 7zip , winzip or winrar installed .

Second ,
get the CM7 removed apps zip . We used the Androidian.apk , CMWallpapers.apk , Cyabread.apk , Livewallpapers.apk , LivewallpapersPicker.apk , Themechooser.apk and ThemeManager.apk from the removed apps zip . Johnny and I installed all of these . I don't know if all are needed in order for just the thememanager to work . You can delete and restore with Titanium to find out if you need them all . You may also want to go to the market and download theme chooser wallpapers .

Third ,
read this .This will tell you exactly what to do .

http://androidforums.com/3580675-post777.html

You just gotta open the removed apps zip , open the apkInstaller.zip . Have both zip file windows open side by side . In the Apk.Installer.zip , double click SYSTEM , then double click APP . . After you have done this , just drag the apps you want from the removed apps zip to the apk.Installer.zip system/app file . When you are done , close the windows and transfer the Apk.Installer zip to your SD Card . Reboot in recovery and install from zip .

Thanks, Biker. Excellent info on how to use APK installer. I think there has been some confusion on this.

Especially, by me. LOL.

use bloods apkinstaller.zip..7zip is the only program i had luck with....if it dont work the first time..try again

Edit...should have read further down...sorry didnt see biker already answered:D

ive been looking for months. nobody has the answer for what you and I are looking for exactly.

To get feedback running properly go into CM settings, input, haptic feedback, then just check haptic feedback up and haptic screen items. Super simple and works fine :D

EDIT: I can't seem to get the 4 soft keys working for haptic feedback on Beta5. I guess I must be missing a setting somewhere.

man i dont understand lol. before i flashed this update my internal space was only 160mb even when i bought the phone brand new it was 160mb. now its up to 437mb!

Cool, ain't it. Hroark does a little switcheroo in the kernel and tells the phone to use the sd-ext partition on your SD card (500MB?) as your entire data partition.

The original physical data partition is 160MB and is now doing nothing.

But, don't worry, the gurus will find something to do with it too.

That's what they call thinking outside the box.

i have used your kernel mod and i have lots of lag isssues. i only have a class 4 card and that could be why. but also i was hoping someone could make dta2sd work with this version of cm7 because for some reason no matter what i do it doesnt recognize the script and never has... as far back as build 3.5 but yeah either way this rom is awesome and thanks for the great work

I would first like to say that I love this rom. It is the best rom for this phone that I have come across thus far. I truly appreciate the hard work and the effort that everyone puts into creating it.

The only issue that I have is that the volume on the handset and the speakerphone have gone way down compared to stock rom. I have tried to tweak the DSP Equalizer that came with the rom, to no avail. I have tried 5-6 different types of apps to increase the volume. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions. I am hard of hearing, and the stock volume was adequate enough, and I don't want to have to be teathered to a bluetooth all the time. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thank You,

Mommy Dearest

what version of the ROM are you running, because the DSP manager was removed from beta 5

i have used your kernel mod and i have lots of lag isssues. try to reflash it and wipe sd-ext. make sure u back up all of your apps first with titanium. after reflashing, check the box that says allow application moving. and change the install location to external. you will have to move some apps to internal or it wont work but it wont use any of your phone's internal space (these apps would be widgets, facebook, twitter).

i only have a class 4 card and that could be why. i have one as well and it runs great!

try going to cyanogenmod settings>sound>auttenuation of set volume

then adjust as needed. (notifications, ringtones, alarms)

so your telling me i have to go to cm settings and check the box for application moving? and then manually put some apps back on internal storage? im confused because the mod makes the kernel think that sd-ext is internal. also i have tried everything i can think of wiping caches and sd-ext and all... this is not my first rodeo with android or sd-ext use but if you could explain a little more in detail as far as the cm settings part id apreciate it

Oh, so sorry. I didn't clarify myself. The volume settings i am having a problem with is during phone calls.

I am using vs 4A. I hadn't realized a new version had come out. I need to reflash to the newest version. I have partitioned my SD card to have an ext4. How do I back up all the apps and data, and then transfer them back to the ext4 partition after reflashing? I use titanium for backup, but never really had to utilize it. I am really dreading having to re-install all these apps again.

yeah, its made so the internal 160mb is not used.

cm settings are easy:
Go Into Phones Settings/CYANOGEN MOD Settings/ Applications.
Checked Allow Moving Apps & Selected Install Location, External.

reboot phone. Install your apps back from titanium (app only)
