.::Droid X Lounge::.

Congrats, brother! Joined the club, I see! PM me if you have any more questions. I use several apps to put a sense of "sense" ui on my phone. I use Launcher pro plus, WidgetLocker and Beautiful Widgets. I think I may have already told you that though. :p

Thanks brother I appreciate it.

I only activated my X this past Friday night, have not had a lot of time to mess with it yet.

I'm having a problem with WL and LPP not playing nice. Any thoughts?

Hey everyone...new droid x owner here.

Anyone have any helpful hints or tricks? :D

Most newbies tend to install 'advanced task killer.' My advice: DON'T INSTALL IT. It can actually make your DX's performance worst.

Advice for DX owner would be:

1) Root it, upgrade to leaked Froyo (forget about Moto's official's OTA, rooted users can get the same exact OTA update via other methods)

2) Get LauncherPro

I have launcherpro and i dont have a clue what to do with it. There isn't a app showing on my droid...any help would be very appreciated. thank you! :)

launcherpro isn't an app-based program. it should already be running by the time you install it.

ah, your home screen icons should be different no?

also, go to your main home screen and hold down anywhere in the screen. should load a popup with option to choose which widget to put on your screen.

Hi everybody Cammeron here. I got my droid X on August 3rd but I didn't realize that the DX Lounge was here (i've looked at a few forums) Thinking about calling this home. Loving my Droid X btw. So who here has rooted their X? Would they recommend rooting before or after the 2.2 update comes (if ever haha)

I have a rooted X, of course do it, come to the darkside:D

BTW welcome to androidforums, glad you signed up

Also I feel that when you root you have a better understanding of the phone, more then the average user, even if the question is a simple one about an app

I have mine rooted, biggest reasons I did it was wireless tether and remove bloatware. Since then I have really liked all the other things I can do like apply themes, screenshots, delete pre installed ringtones, change boot animations, create better backups, etc.

I would recommend rooting now and using the leaked 2.2. When the OTA eventually comes out you can always update to it the same way as the leaked 2.2, but why not have a louder speaker and flash now??

I couldn't resist. I have now rooted my Droid X.. Mostly flawless the root failed a few times before i realized my phone wasn't on PC mode. Worked Perfectly After switching. I'm now posting from my assimilated (tethered) HP laptop. Man this phone rocks aha.

I have a few concerns and questions. Thanks in advance.

1. Will upgrading to the rooted 2.2 cause issues updating to the released 2.2
1b. If so how hard is downgrading back to 2.1 before 2.2 Official update?
Note: Flash and speed increases are the main reason I want 2.2 (of course)

2. How can I back up the phone? The site with the rooting program talked about backing it up.

3. Can an app that requires root cause efuse to cause issues?

4. While I understand that a lot of efuse is just scare tactics how hard is it to fix if it occurs?

5. (At Charlie) what do you mean apply themes? couldn't we already do this? also since you seem to know if you wouldn't mind giving me a little info on how to backup and change the boot animations?

Thanks for everything guys including the welcome into the forums. Really Appreciate it. Knowing I had somewhere to brainstorm and come if I had a problem makes screwing with this thing a lot more fun and so much easier.

You can update to the OTA the same way you update to the leaked 2.2. If you are rooted you will not want to update right away until one of our great devs finds a way to keep root on the OTA

2. How can I back up the phone? The site with the rooting program talked about backing it up.

You can either create a backup using ROM manager, Titanium Backup, or MyBackup Pro, my personal preference is MyBackup Pro just because it works for me and if something works the way I want it to I see no reason to try something else although the other methods may offer something extra

3. Can an app that requires root cause efuse to cause issues?

The only eFuse issue is if you use an unsigned ROM. I don't know too much about it, because I only install ROMs that are verified to be OK, and I don't try to make my own ROMs. You shouldn't have any issues at all. No root app is going to break your phone.

4. While I understand that a lot of efuse is just scare tactics how hard is it to fix if it occurs?

Not that hard to fix if you brick you phone by altering/deleting system files. You just use RSDlite and the Droid X sbf file. I have had to do it a couple times but that is because of alterations I was making where I knew if I messed up I would have to sbf

5. (At Charlie) what do you mean apply themes? couldn't we already do this? also since you seem to know if you wouldn't mind giving me a little info on how to backup and change the boot animations?

Themes: These change the look of things like notification bar, certain apps can be themed, the look of menues, dialer, etc. The theme I am currently using and instuction to install it are found here: BigDXSerenity is HERE! ☢ Froyo2.2 Custom Theme Experience ☢Compatible w/Froyo 2.3.13☢ - xda-developers There are also a couple good themes on these forums (NexTheme and REVOlution) Themes are all a personal preference so just find one you like.

Boot Animations: There are a few with instructions on how to install them here: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/142592-custom-boot-blue-x-takeover-root-users.html I am using the X that looks like it is made of electricity and I have added a sound that plays after the animation. Everything is in that thread, just read through there.

Welcome to the forums. At one time we were all new to android and until I got my X I did not root, theme, or anything else. I have learned everything from all the great members here and some trial and error.

As soon as you root and update to 2.2 (don't forget to move su from system/bin to system/xbin to keep root) go here: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...rk-recovery-image-deodexed-rooted-froyod.html you need to be deodexed to theme, it is really simple to do it this way.

**Edit** Almost forget: Check out this thread: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-x/170378-custom-themed-htc-keyboards.html to make your own themed keyboard.

All this should keep you busy for a couple days. Enjoy your X!!

Awesome i'll look over the links and such in the coming days. I won't be going any further with the phone tonight seeing as I need it tomorrow and i'm going to bed in a half hour. Thanks for the info.

30 minutes is plenty of time to root using universalandroot (one click root), update to 2.2, then deodex using the link I posted above.

No but I understand, sometimes you have to just call it a night. When you do start playing with you X feel free to ask questions.:)

Well it's already been rooted with the one click my only concern is temporarily bricking it updating to 2.2 but no yeah i'm just gonna call it a night aha. I will probably work on it Wednesday after school around noonish since I've work late on Tuesday. Looking forward to it though :)

30 Minutes is too much time!

more like the time it takes you to press a button.

maybe .5-1 seconds.

Yeah but it does take time for installation and reboots after 2.2 update, deodexing, etc. Plus it takes a little time to download the files.

Ok I am a newbie here, so please be kind. I have a basic question that I should know the answer to but don't. How do I turn off the annoying droid posts that I get ever 2 minutes???

THANKS!

Droid Does website semi announced release of froyo. According to Engadget, Droid Does has posted a page stating that 2.2 for the X is here. Although no one so far that I know of (including myself and the team at Engadget) has been able to update to 2.2 still but this should mean any day now.

Hey, this looks awesome. Still, $10 a month is kinda steep. I could have Netflix account for that much!

Speaking of which, they need to get an Android app out ASAP!

It is a little steep if you don't use it a lot, but the video quality is sooo much better than vcast. I agree though, when netflix gets a streaming app, I'm all over it!!

From their mouths to God's ears. I have to be sure to unclick 1-click root so I can get it!
