Root Favorite Root Applications

I use both. Terminal emulator is great for making a couple of quick changes directly on the phone. I was using it a lot when I was playing around with the setscaling overclock method under 2.1. On the other hand, I use ADB (and therefore could easily use ADB Wireless) when I am doing more work or pushing files to the phone - like when I root initially or push a theme out to the phone. Having a real keyboard is just nicer when I am trying to enter a bunch of commands.

I found ADB Wireless about a week ago, but haven't really played with it much. It is generally just as easy to hook the USB cord up to my laptop for normal use. But I do have it installed on the phone just in case. You never know when you might need to do something major to the phone when you don't have the USB cord. I can always download the needed files to a new computer and get ADB, but I cannot download the correct USB cable to use in that situation. ;)

PS - you also have to be rooted to use ADB Wireless, so you need to use ADB to get root (if that is the method you like).

Just went in and froze all the bloat I could think of, here's my list...

1. Amazon MP3
2. Android Live Wallpapers
3. Blockbuster
4. Bluetooth Share
5. BluetoothDun (I NEVER use bluetooth)
6. City ID
7. DNLA (I would be using this, but as of now I have nothing that's compatible with it)
8. Home screen tips (useless after first run IMO)
9. Kindle (like I'll ever use that anyway)
10. Music (the stock music player caused me much grief)
11. SIM Toolkit (my phone has no SIM card)
12. Skype mobile
13. Social Messaging
14. Social Messaging Service
15. Social Networking
16. Social Sharing
17. Social Status (it's not that I don't Facebook on my phone, I just have the real Facebook bookmarked and have the bookmark on my home screen... I prefer the actual site over the widget)
18. TTS Service
19. VZ Navigator

I wasn't sure about freezing the blur stuff. I've heard some say you can, but I wasn't sure how integrated it is with LP. Maybe once he's done with the ground up version that will be a stand alone Launcher I will. But anyway I'm completely cool with freezing the apps I don't want/need instead of uninstalling them. Once I froze them, when I first checked into my app drawer a few of them were still in there, but when I clicked on them they said they weren't available. However once I did my first reboot, they were all completely gone from my site. None of them in the app drawer, none of them start up anymore, take up any of my resources or memory... awesome!

I read too many posts with people asking if anyone had this app or that app because they'd 86'd em already and now needed them back to upgrade to 2.2. So I don't care if they're still technically taking up a little space on my hard drive (hell it's not like I'm anywhere near using even 5% of the available space on my phone right now anyhow), they aren't causing me any grief at all anymore, and when it's time to upgrade to 3.0 all I'll need to do is go in and defrost everything.

God this stuff is so cool it's unbelievable. Loved my DX before rooting it, since rooting it I want to marry it and have an affair with it all at the same time... ok maybe that's a bit creepy, but you get the picture.
 
WOW this is just way over my head im really not tht tech savvy but i did find pdanet tonight and i have installed it and using it without any problems trying to make my mind up if i should cancel my aircard thru verizon or not any advice i have the droid x and also i know you r gona wonder why this dumb person is on herer but what does rooting mean lmao thanks for any help you can give me
 
You aren't dumb Zoey, I had no clue what rooting meant either when I first got my DX. I kept hearing about the one click root method (when it was still 2.1 around here) and this and that and wondered what the hell that even meant or why so many people seemed to be interested in doing it?

So I googled it, got myself educated on the term and quickly discovered it's advantages/pitfalls. Don't worry, non of this stuff is brain surgery. At first it seems intimidating, but the more you get to know about the processes that you go through to get your phone rooted and all that stuff, the easier it gets.

+1 lag is virtually non existent with autokiller. Curious as to what preset the person experiencing lag used.
 
I used to freeze all the bloat as well with TIBU but now I just deleted them...It frees up more memory under your system. Plus, you can always reinstall them with root explorer.

cool cool, anybody that use autokiller ever use the LOST preset? I love the idea because I'm a HUGE lost phone, but the numbers don't seem like they would help anything

Autokiller is different from Task Killer in that AK uses the DX's internal task managers and allows the user to customize how much memory is available at all times.

Seems pretty cool. Any downsides to using it? Are there recommended settings?
