Gingerbread is making my DX feel like a brand new phone! I seriously never expected anything official this good, improvement wise.
I was also a bit confused at installing it, but this helped me:
This is a sarcastic but complete installation guide someone posted earlier today on page 44 in the leak thread. It worked 100% for me with no issues at all.
Most of this comes from my guide on installing Liberty, adapted for the GB leak. I've modified it to be a little more insulting as well. If you're reading this you probably need it. Maybe someone who isn't so sad at looking at these comments will make it nice again.

Have the leak?
Do you already have the leak? Skip ahead to the next section.
If you don't have the leak, do the TBH guys a mitzvah and buy their app. Then download the
Full Gingerbread (2.3.3) SBF file (update.zip format) (DROIDX).
Seriously do yourself a favor for when you screw this up: also get RSDLite and the Froyo 2.2.1 SBF file.
If you aren't stupid, buy the TBH app and download the file from the first link in this thread. And check the goddamn MD5 hash. If you get the file this way and it is incomplete/corrupt it is your own goddamn fault.
Rooted?
Do you already have root? Skip ahead to the next section.
First you'll need to go into your phone Settings, Application Settings. Check off "Unknown sources" and then go into the Development section and enable "USB Debugging". Download z4root to your phone and install. Head into the application and choose permanent root. If it takes more than a few minutes, reboot your phone and try again. I've never had it take more than a minute, but it can take a few. Once it's done rooting it will reboot your phone. Tada! You're rooted.
Bootstrapped?
Are you already bootstrapped? Read this anyway, part of it still applies to actually getting into CWM.
Next up we're installing Droid X Bootstrap. Since you're dumb you know the only place you can get it is from the market. Since the Droid X has a locked down bootloader we need Bootstrap to get into custom recovery. Once Bootstrap is installed, go into it. Choose Bootstrap Recovery, it'll give you a success prompt when it's done. If you didn't you're stupid and didn't root correctly. Just give up now. Then click reboot recovery. You're about to be in Clockworkmod Recovery (CWM)! While you're in here, you use the volume up/down keys to navigate, the camera button to select (full press!) and the back button to go back up.
Once you're in CWM first things first is to make a backup. I like to wipe the cache partition before a backup because it's a waste of backup space. Up to you. Go down to "backup and restore", select it and finally make a backup. This is your easy way out should you not like where you're going.
Once you back everything up it's time to stop and think. No, really. That soft, squishy thing inside your skull is really being put to the task here. Are you really sure you want to do this? Ok then. Go back to the top menu of CWM and choose wipe data/factory reset!
Install the leak already
Did you have second thoughts? Go restore the backup I told you to make. You didn't make a backup? I hate you.
You really want to try out Gingerbread? Let's do it then! Choose "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from sdcard". It'll give you a view of your SD card. Go choose the Gingerbread file you downloaded. If you were a good little boy and used the TBH app it'll be in a folder on your SD card called It'll take a little while to install and then you're set! Reboot and you're off to enjoy some Gingerbread goodness.
Did you get an error? This one might not actually be your fault provided you used the TBH app. Go check the file size of the zip file. RootExplorer tells me the file is 172.91MB. If yours is that size, plug the phone into the computer and check the MD5 hash given in the first post. If they don't match, download again.
Sync icon keeps spinning?
You goddamn moron, you skipped the data wipe didn't you? Die in a fire.
Everything is running great?
