Root [GUIDE] Brick Recovery

Has anyone else been getting 110 error reports from downloading apps from the playstore after rooting and z5 ROM? I haven't read every page of the thread yet...

Okay Folks.. My phone is stuck on Firmware Update screen. I attempted to follow OP and must have done something wrong. I cant even hard reset? Please Help!
What do you mean firmware update screen? What does it look like? What did you do when following the guide? Did you get any unexpected errors?
Without more info, all I can say is start over and do it again. Follow the directions closely.

Try clearing data for the play store. Did you install the radio? Do you have data otherwise? You may have to factory reset. There have been some glitchy things occurring when jumping from zv3 to zv5.

I downloaded the Flash tool, the tot file, and the 2 dll's. Re installed the drivers with appropriate restarts. Set the com port to 41. Started phone in download mode http://androidforums.com/attachments/upload_2015-1-7_17-23-25-png.79991/ Next i setup flash tool like pic. hit yellow button, unplug, replug. Flash process starts. hangs at 12-21% returns fail. I restarted both the computer and the phone with no luck. I changed USB port. I tuned off firewall and Antivir... I unfortunately Im still stuck. Mu Firmware Update screen also says 910K B86 QEM in small grey letters and Rooted in red.. I dont know how to get the phone to do anything but display this screen.

OK, you're stuck on the download mode screen. It failed the flash. Did you verify that the tot file downloaded correctly with the MD5 provided? Be sure to check the zip file, not the extracted tot file.

Until you get the flash to complete, you're stuck. There is basically no usable OS on the phone at this point, which it why it won't boot.

If the tot file is valid, try a different computer. Someone mentioned having better luck on a 32 bit computer, but I don't know if it was just coincidence.

Well the the checksum on the tot matches. I'm going to resolve a small USB issue before attempting to start from the top. I don't have a 32bit system setup.. perhaps Ill try to run the flash-tool in a windows compatibility mode. The other thing is that I instinctively chose the third option when 1st running the flash tool...i think (the other options seemed like they might not be in english, if i remember correctly, however it wasn't untill after the fact later that this dialogue was mentioned in the directions) so i reinstalled flash tool i didnt have the option to choose?? so maybe i havent unistalled it correctly between tries... I also am unsure if I successfully removed all drivers relating to the phone so I will hit my head against the wall a few more times and let you know how it works out.

I re flashed Z5 after wiping and the radio then factory reset it. Then used Titanium Backup to restore and Link2Sd and everything is running fine I've even had to do some updates to apps and still working well. Thanks. I had tried clearing the play store data first and that didn't work.

You didn't use BOARD mode. You need to reflash. Look at the action mode section in the flash tool screenshot.

i will go find out how to factory reset and how to access "recovery" unless of course.... someone here tells me.
Hold Vol - and Power when you turn on the phone until is says factory reset processing. That gets you into recovery. Factory reset is an option in there.

so i see that factory ...proscessing screen but if i continue to hold thos buttons it just restarts. If i let go of power it goes back to USB Firmware Update screen...power button isnt working.. have to take battery out

I've just finished reading this entire thread from first post to last. Very interesting and informative. Thank you.all. The problem is my lack of retention. I did see that there are some issues for some folks using Win 8.1.
I've ordered a used Boost LG Volt thru Ebay. Have no idea what zv version it is yet. Nor do
I know If I even want to root. My question is whether or not I might be able to use my Win8.1 tablet to perform the root should i decide to do so.
I went off when MS abandoned all us XP diehards and converted my PC and laptop to Lubuntu so the only Win device I have is the tablet. Tablet does have a full size USB 3 port.
What do Ya'll think?

Edit: Oh and I have no intention of activating the volt. I carry Two hotspots and use a voip app for voice service.

Don't know if the tablet will work... Depends on exactly what version of windows it's running. I'm sure there's probably a way to do it in Linux. Probably a good chance that phone will have zv3 on it though, in which case you won't need a computer.

"Step 2 - Setup your computer
Uninstall any and all phone related drivers and software currently on your computer from any phone you've had. You can reinstall them once the downgrade is complete if you still need them."

How does one do this? I'm using Windows 8.1
Is it a good idea to try this with 8.1??

Like you would uninstall anything else...look through the Programs and Features control panel and uninstall anything pertaining to a phone. Then look through Device Manager and do the same. As for using Windows 8, theoretically it shouldn't matter, but I can't say you won't have a few extra bumps in the road. Maybe run the flash tool in Windows 7 compatibility mode if you have a problem.

OK, so your recovery is borked too. I just thought of something though...go through and uninstall the USB ports on your computer, reboot, let it reinstall the USB (should auto detect and install), reinstall the drivers, reboot. I recall that working for someone before. Literally just thought of it while writing the previous post.

UPDATE: When I have the phone plugged in I see the name of my phone under device manager under portable devices. Do I just uninstall that driver?

I found nothing relating to LG in either the Device Manager or the Programs and Features thing, and they're definitely installed
