Root [GUIDE] Brick Recovery

UPDATE: When I have the phone plugged in I see the name of my phone under device manager under portable devices. Do I just uninstall that driver?
That's not a driver... That is just where you would access the phone drives.
I found nothing relating to LG in either the Device Manager or the Programs and Features thing, and they're definitely installed
Not just LG, any drivers from any phone you've had on there. If you've never had a phone hooked up before, then there's nothing to remove. If you've installed the drivers from the guide, they'll show up in Programs and Features as LG United Mobile Driver. Any drivers that installed just from connecting the phone won't appear.

So this doesn't need to be uninstalled?

And the drivers that don't show up are nothing to worry about?

If that's the phone you're working on, don't worry about it. I misunderstood where you said you saw that. You should be fine to proceed.

"Install the LG Flash Tool to the root of your drive.
Place the DLLs (megalock and ls740) and tot file in the folder with the flash tool."

by drive do you mean internal or sd?

and sorry for all the small questions. It's just that if I mess up, I'm out f a phone for a long time

I just wanted to say thank you so much for this guide! I finished installing and it was a success! Now I just need to figure out how to install apps on my sd

OK, so your recovery is borked too. I just thought of something though...go through and uninstall the USB ports on your computer, reboot, let it reinstall the USB (should auto detect and install), reinstall the drivers, reboot. I recall that working for someone before. Literally just thought of it while writing the previous post.

Hmmm lots of stuff in here... the usb is part of the ASROCK motherboard. Probably just have to can the top 3. My mouse is USB =/ .. here goes

: The drivers were in triplicate with identical labels and no other info. I couldn't tell what was my mouse. It was the second driver I disabled... then I disabled the keyboard and was stuck.... I think i ended up doing an improper shutdown with cold boot.

Are you having issues trying to flash it or get into it?

If you want to get into it, power off, hold volume down and power until you see the screen saying "factory reset processing" at which point you need to let go of both, give it a few seconds, and you should be in.

getting into it. I've flashed both the original one from this guide as well as the updated lollipop one using flashify and no matter what I can't get twrp to boot. I get two the "factory reset processing" screen and it just stays there.

edit: nevermind, finally got it working after flashing the file from the internal storage instead of from microSD

* Update I got the brick to flash with another stock cable... derp.

Well .. I'm now the proud owner of a second volt. Not sure what to do with this 1st one. That said i'm glad i did it even if it didn't go as planned. The community here is fantastic and I hope others won't be put off by my bad luck. We are very lucky to have the help from people like bg4mgr and if anyone has some ideas or a reputable cause that could be furthered with my bricked phone lemme know. I'm on a tight budget so I cant risk this working phone for a while. =)

Live and learn
gotta break a few eggs to make a good omelet
the early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese

Hurray! Horrible cables were the culprit .. I got it to flash... Ive got zv3! I took the new stock cable and changed the transfer buffer to 10 and the receive buffer to 12.. dunno if that did anything it was probably the cord. so everything is going well i just used flashify with twrp...

Should i have updated supersu binaries before next step? I installed the supersu zip file from the xternal sd and am making a backup now

Figures, the one thing no one thought to suggest.

Doesn't matter on the SU binaries.

I wiped and the zv5 install, with radio, worked fine!

Whats with this connections optimizer thing?

I installed a data & wifi firewall suite called comodo and blocked a few update services...

Thanks !

Connections optimizer works to keep you on the best available data method at hand (ie automatically turning on Wi-Fi when you're in range of a network). It also stores authentication credentials for public access points so you don't always have to log in. It's always been on the phone.

Get rid of Comodo. Use DroidWall if you really feel you need a firewall.

Added information for a new one click root app. According to its site it works on zv4, but we need to confirm this and check if it works on zv3 and zv5 too. Link and new starting instructions at the beginning of the guide.

We have received a report of a new one click root app that works on zv4 called srsroot.
Please try it out and report your results.

Stock zv4
Please try srsroot.
Then jump to TWRP installation in step 4.
If it doesn't work, please continue on with the full guide.
Please report success or failure with srsroot.

I tried four or five times on a fresh ZV4. I tried both the everything button and the smart button, but neither worked.

Thanks for the response. That's unfortunate. It even said on the apps site that it had been tested. We'll see if the trend continues.
