[Guide] Root/ROM FAQ/Tutorial (for 1.5)

Downloaded BusyBox from within Titanium, and nw get message "Busybox works, but the "su" command does not elevate to root: "whaomi" reports "whaoni :unknown uid 10081" instead of root/uid0. I think your Whitelist system app does not work. Pleaase check your ROM provider.

I am using stock 1.5, does Titanium work with this? I suspect this is why. OH! I have my nandroid to fall back on if the flash of a custom rom doesn't work, right? Sorry....lots to grasp here.

so i downloaded the lwp and they are working but now my google navigation don't show my route but it shows everything but that. help please

ok so I finally joined the club and rooted yesterday and now im running fresh 2.1.1 and OF COURSE the 2.1 update comes out TODAY! lol. so for those of you using the new ROM from sprint how is it running? and if i wanted to how can i install it, or can i? would i just download the rom off of sprint and flash it as usual or what?

Why? You have the same thing, minus the bloat from sprint

Possibly. The stock ROM (even after rooting) doesn't have busybox installed so that is likely your problem.

Before I flashed to Fresh 2.0d, under my "about phone" a percentage was given for the awake time. It doesnt appear now, how do I determine my awake time percentage?

I found that, I was looking to see if an actual percentage shows up next to the awake time like before (i.e. 15%)

My Battery Status in the market= really good battery indicator in the not. bar. It gives a percentage all the time.

Could not get on to Android Forums yesterday because I kept getting a "database error." Both from computer and my phone. So I downloaded and flashed Fresh Toast 2.1 and the radio update, 2.42.01.04.27. Had to update the radio because the other update was crap; reception very bad after flashing the new ROM. Afterwords the radio is pretty good. Sometimes I lose the 3G mobile network connection so I press the power key to "turn off" the mobile network, then press the power key again to turn the mobile network back on and that refreshes the connection. Voila!

Thank god for Astro to back up and restore my apps or I would have gone nuts. Titanium Backup looked like I had to upgrade to the pay version to restore, so I nixed that.

Here is my problem....before I could flash the new ROM and antenna I tried to go to RA (pressing both Home and Power keys) and I got the screen with the Android guy on a skateboard and no RA like when I first rooted. Very confusing. So finally I tried holding the volume all the way down while pressing the Home key. This gave me a similar Android guy and skateboard screen, except with the option to press Home for RA. This got me to the familiar RA screen. From there I did the wipes (all, just to be safe) and flashed the packages. Why do I get the Android guy on the skateboards screen though? When I rooted I used recovery image 1.6.2, and it was there (I checked the SD card), but now it is not. Is that why I have to use a convoluted method to get to the RA? Can I just copy and paste the 1.6.2 img from my computer to my SD card and call it good?

As for Fresh Toast 2.1, except for occasional mobile network dropouts, everything works. I don't notice that it is much faster that Fresh 2.0d was, but the camera works now without freezing like it did in Fresh 2.0d. Also I use Over Clock widget because Flipz "personally recommended" that one over SetCPU.

OK, so this is a lot in this post, but between pleasing my girlfriend, walking the dog, figuring out my RA problem and flashing without all of you experts here....well, I've been busy. I need a Coke and a smile.

I am still running the 1.5.2 RA, but as far as I know you should be able to do this:

18.How do I boot into Recover Mode from Power Off?
a.

1) Pull Battery (If necessary and stuck in a loop)
2) Press and hold the "Home" button
3) Continue holding "Home" while pressing and releasing the "Power" button

To be honest, I never use that method. I prefer to do it manually from adb.

adb remount
adb shell
reboot recovery

Technically, I believe if you have terminal emulator installed on your phone, you could launch it, and possibly try:

adb shell
reboot recovery

I'm not 100% on that one, but I think it might work.

Oh crap. Color me dumb. I just tried it again but held the Home key down while pressing the Power key and it worked....took me right to the green RA screen. I was pressing the Home key but released it after pressing the Power key before.

You lose me on the "adb shell" stuff because I don't know where to initiate that. From the C: prompt, or where? As for terminal emulator, I don't have that installed. I'm guessing that is an app.

Thanks for spelling out that I need to press and hold the Home key!

Also, Fresh Kitchen will boot your phone into recovery. I use that a lot when I'm flashing...
I didn't know that. That is another option. Now if I just knew how to change the RA screen from green to blue like Flipz shows on his site I would be set!

Thanks to you too for opening my eyes for another Fresh Kitchen utility.

Did you root manually? ( I can't remember LOL. )

If you did, you simply open a command prompt do a cd to your android-sdk-windows/tools directory then issue the commands from there.

Yes, I rooted manually. OK...so I need be in the android-sdk-windows/tools directory...that was my dilemma. Read what you said about OC widget in another thread, so I uninstalled it. We'll see how the ROM runs without it.

What about the OC Widget?

If you are running Fresh 2.1.1 then you don't need and can't use SetCPU or OC Widget.

If you are running FreshToast 2.x then you have a choice of either OC Widget or SetCPU. Flipz has recommend the use of OC Widget instead of SetCPU for this ROM.

Fresh Toast 2.1 here. I uninstalled the OC widget because of what you and mysticmead said about overclocking on a phone:

http://androidforums.com/all-things...-2-1-1-otherwise-its-too-slow.html#post759361

Fresh 2.1.1 and fresh toast are different roms. Toast needs the oc widget to control the overclocking
Yes, I understand that. But if you click the link for the post by ccapasso (and his quote of mysticmead) then you see where they mentioned Fresh Toast 2.1 and OC. Both agreed OC was not worth it.

my google navigation isn't working properly so i think i'm just going to reinstall the 2.0d rom again..if i do that do i just flash it again like a normal rom or do i have to delete the extra add ins i put in [[lwp and vanilla lockscreen]] and then reflash it.
