Root Guide to Rooting Without a Computer

cat_/sdcard/flash_image_>_/system/bin/flash_image(return)
Entered this line exactly and keep getting cannot create ?system/bin/flash_image: read-only file system

You have root access, but the file system is mounted read only. Here is a link explaining how the mount command works. You need to unmount the file system, and remount it with read/write access.

Finally!!! Ok got past that. Don't understand what happened but hey it worked!. My next question is which of the recovery images do I install next or both???

Ok now I see the problem. Thanks for turning on the light brotherswing.

To the OP: I assumed you were typing in all the command lines, instead of starting in the middle.
Start where it says su and and type in the rest.

If that is not the case and you did start with su and typed in all lines up to the error message, then we will need to use your PC.
EDIT: Nija'ed by two members.

No I started with the first direction and followed step by step.

It only matters if you install the Bumblebee ROM which would be the best Froyo ROM in my opinion.
If you want to install it then you need the Xionia recovery.

Go back to the main menu and install the ROM if you already have it on the sd card.
If not reboot and download the Bumblebee ROM and put it on the root of the sd card. Keep it zipped.

Ok I think I'm getting ahead of myself. Do I need to install the ROM first before I install linkstosd or re-install my 16gb card or Download Titanium backup and do that. I think my eyes are crossing from staring at the screens for too long!!! LOL
P.S. Reading another thread about Bumblebee recommends Harmonia as Bumblebee is no longer supported. Uugggh!

Once you get back into the recovery go to install zip from sd card option.
Then select choose zip from sd card. Scroll up to get to the bottom quicker.
Select the ROM zip and wait for it to get done installing.
Go back to recovery menu and select reboot system now.
It will take almost 10 min to reboot the first time then go to the market app and sign in.

Do I have to go through all the steps in TE to get back into recovery? or can I just bring it back up onit's own. I can't seem to find it except for the file on the sdcard

If you have a gingerbread ROM just hold the power button until you see a window pop up. Select reboot, then recovery.
If that doesn't seem to work for you, hold home +volume down then power, all at the same time

Thanks got that far. but for some reason the zip isn't showing up in the sdcard viewing it in recovery. I know it's there. I made sure by looking for it with my pc and with androzip, all I did was verify that the file was there.
