Root Help Rooting LG Stylo 2

Hey Anthony.... first, thank you for this awesome info! Question... does the phone have to be in "download" mode before connecting? ie: hold VOL DOWN as usb cable is connected with ADB currently running?

In lieu of no perm root for my brand new Stylo 2 (Boost LS775 ZV6), I do need to enable the WiFI Hotspot via APN hidden menu settings. (,dun) Looks like you are stating this can be done with your method described here, and just wanted to confirm before I f/u this new phone. ;)

Ooops... lol Thanks for the heads-up Roadkill! I have my phone plugged in right now and was gonna tinker with the "dirty cow" stuff Anthony posted above. Wasn't sure if the device had to be in download mode or just power on/plug in and go. I'll keep ya's posted on any progress. Just got the phone ($79.00 on eBay) and haven't activated it yet, so I figured now is the time. ;)

RK... just do exactly as Anthony suggests. It seems to work here on ZV6 anyhow. My phone isn't activated yet (brand new) and I already had adb and LG drivers in place. I did go through Anthony's .bat file and enter his adb commands one at a time, just to be safe. All went flawlessly. Now.... I personally just needed to get into the APN settings to enable WiFi Hotspot, and there is no "boost" inet entry (yet?) due to no activation yet (I assume), so I'm hoping once I bite the bullet and activate, I will be able to use the hotspot w/0 having to pay Boost ransom first. ;) See my previous post for screen caps, etc.

Unfortunately i have tried that among other apps. A buddy has the same phone and carrier and his was rooted using towelroot. Is their another app that could of been used to add the success in that? Superuser or something

Look in your phone under settings and see what version your software is at currently. If it's ZV4, ZV5, or ZV6 join the waiting room with us. ;) Only ZV3 (which must be the original release version?) can gain temp root via Kingroot. I think we all have exhausted all the "one-click" options for later MM builds. :(
 
I have the zv3 soure code downloaded if a dev can do somthing with it its way above my know how and has the kernal in it zv3 hope it has the zv3 recovery img in it i dont know how to check

I wish the hell we could flash backwards w/o bricking the device. I have never owned a Droid-based device that wasn't rooted... and it hurts! LOL I use the WiFI Hotspot for net access at home, so I definitely need to edit APN settings to activate. (still using my ole Stylo G for that) Looks like Anthony's suggestion/dirty cow will allow me in the hidden menu to do so. That's a plus for me at least. ;)
 
hey guys great job i really appreciate the hard work u guys put in to get stylo 2 naked.
I am on vz5 and the methods work in the command prompt.
question how do i run the other hidden menu
 
Type in:

pm list packages

at the adb system shell prompt to display android system packages.

Select a package you are interested
in and enter, for example:

dumpsys package com.lge.hiddenmenu

This displays all associated activities.

Call up an activity using androids activity manager, for example:

am start -n com.lge.hiddenmenu/.Power.TherDaeMitigation
