Root Horrific 3g speeds

how do you fix this on cm7? xda says you have to be on a sence rom and mine was fine when i was, i just hate sence.

Basically, if you're going to bring your phone in as others here have or even just update the profile, you need to be on a Sense based ROM. You can't do it from CM. Just make a nandroid backup of CM, wipe everything, flash any Sense ROM of your choice, don't even bother restoring anything, do whatever process you intend to do (bring the phone in for reprovisioning, update profile, whatever), then restore your nandroid backup.

Yea, but I'm curious, it says in the OP @ XDA
Also when you flash a new rom it will back to old settings so remember to re-apply and it wont make you more vulnerable to anything.

So will it reset the settings when going from Sense to AOSP Nand? I guess the question is will the Nand restore these settings to stock?

Right, I didn't realize that's what he was talking about :). If you're going to reprovision or update profile, you need to go to sense and back. If you want to do that particular mod in that xda thread, you have to be on a Sense ROM and stay on a Sense ROM. It reverts the change, otherwise, apparently.

I edited my post, but I'm sure the same applies

I will definitely try calling them tonight (assuming that I don't have to unroot to call do I?) If worst comes to worst ill just unroot and take it in... because this is getting frustrating it took me almost 10 minutes to load this page and write this....-_-

*probably* not. I'm guessing they are doing whatever on their end. I just unrooted because I just got the phone and decided to take it back in the store in case it was a radio issue or something. I have since rerooted and everything and its still getting about a meg down and 700k up on 3g with a sub 200ms ping.

That is exactly what happened to me. Either call in or unroot and take it in and they can fix it. Mine was averaging worse pings though, like 945+. Now it pings at under 200ms.

I think it only matters in this case, where its a hard stop. Its not going to fix the occasional crappy performance due to load or bad server but in my case before they did it I NEVER got a decent speed in 3g. 140k was my absolute max in every test. Im still convinced that with a hard stop like that I wasnt actually in EVDORevA even though the phone would say "3g." I think it assumes all EVDO is 3g.

Any idea what she did exactly? I looked through the ##DATA menu and didn't see anything related EVDORevA. Anyone have any ideas?

Just got off the phone with sprint, they did a bunch of trouble shooting, She made me dial ##3282# then edit mode, enter your msl, data profile, menu, restore and allow phone to reboot... after it rebooted the phone reactivated on the network but it was to no avail for me, they even suggested I installed ATK... to which I said no, so they suggested I go in to a sprint store... so Unrooting is in my future... Just have to find time for it...lol

From what I could tell.... all they were doing was pushing something to the phone via usb . I couldn't see the screen well enough to see what though.

He dialed ##3282#.. entered my msl.. clicked on advanced.... clicked on something on pc.... and a progress bar showed up on phone. When he was done he restarted the phone and said "enjoy, your phone is up to date with all of the current software. It should act like completely new phone" I flashed 2 backups and fresh since and it appears to have held. Nothing in any of the menus and info has changed

I ran a speed test on both 4G and 3G
and...

The page didnt load until 9:42 which is 5 minutes after I initiated the page... I'm starting to think that my problem is software related since the same thing happens on WIFI...

Yeah yours arent speed issues, something is wrong someplace else.

B1 ....do you have adfree on the phone? If you do..clear its data and cache then uninstall it and try a page load again

I dont think so Let me check under manage applications

EDIT I dont seem to have it

if i remember myns rls 5 was having issues with slow page loading. the solution was to either install (if you have it) or uninstall then install (if you do not have it) adfree. open adfree and download and install hosts. after doing this my page downloads were back to normal. i dont know if this is will help you or not.

Watch it close....if you kept it and you the issue comes back you can update hosts. It got to a point on mine that 4g would not load pages completely and I had to uninstall and manually remove the host file.

Since I'm on a AOSP ROM I had to use root explorer and change up the host file to 0.0.0.0 and started getting much better speeds back.

archercc can you point me to where you got the unrooting files? thanks

If you go to the root thread in here it tells you how under section 6 I believe. You get the S-ON tool from unrevoked to restore security to the flash and then just flash the signed sprint RUU package (which is also linked). Its really easy, just flashing two zips.
