How do I got about getting rid of ROM Manager and ClockworkMod so I can flash AmonRA ?

I placed the AmonRA recovery on my SD card and it looks like it installed it. However, next time I go to recovery it still says ClockworkMod on top.

I rebooted a few times but still the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks !!

You need to go here and download the Amon Ra 2.3 zip and place it on the top level of ypur sd card/not in a folder, also known as root. Rename the file PC36IMG.zip (or no .zip depends on if extensions are shown or not on your pc/phone). Turn off the phone. Turn it on by pressing and holding vol down then pressing power (go to hboot). If named properly and in the correct place it will scan and find the file and ask if you want to update. Say yes, it twill update then ask if you want to reboot, say yes. You should now have amon ra recovery. Rename the PC36IMG file to something else when you are done so it doesnt try to flash it every time you go to hboot.

Clockwork back ups can NOT be restored with Amon Ra, you will need to flash back to clockwork to restore a recovery made in clockwork. Or flash back to that rom first, flash Amon Ra and make a back up of that rom, thereby making amon ra back ups of all your roms, you would have to repeat that procedure for every clockwork back up.

As far as Rom manager is concerned you can keep or uninstall it. It will not do anythingg as far as recovery is concerned but it can still dl roms and fix permissions.

Edit: If you already have the corect file skip going to that link and start at placing it in the proper place and naming correctly.

How did you install it? Through hboot or flash it through recovery?

The easiest way is to use Rom Manager and flash the "alternate recovery," which is RA. Or, you can get the .img file and flash it manually from the bootloader's FASTBOOT mode. You'll need the fastboot utility bundled with the Android SDK.

Alright, I should have probably added WHY I wanted to do this. Probably because I am still stupid :(

Anyways, I am trying to flash the Sprint VVM (voicemail.zip) in Recovery.

When I do that, installation is aborted and I get a message saying "Amend Scripting (update-script) is no longer supported"

Place Switch to Edify

it doesnt say ra 2.3 in rom manager but i have heard that it indeed flashes the latest version of Ra. Is this true? That would maybe be an easier method but i do everything manually. Rom manager likely just runs a recovery.img command to switch recoveries though which is OK i guess lol.

You can also use the .img to flash it from terminal emulator... :)

Flash Alternate Recovery is greyed out :(

Im not aware of what that vvm.zip is, i use a vvm.apk...? At any rate that is correct you need amon ra or clockwork 2.6.0.1 to flash amend script files.

You can go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html and download either Clockwork 2.6.0.1 or Amon RA 2.3(preferred). Follow the directions there to get it flashed. Make a fresh nandroid after flashing if you switch to Amon RA.

Because i didnt already say that in a much wordier form :p

what are the advantages of Amon RA over Clockwork? was gonna make this my next project but i don't see the need.. i've flashed 10+ ROMS, use nand backup, etc.. without issue

I think I did exactly that. Downloaded AmonRA placed it in the root of my SD card.
It finds the PC36IMG.zip file. checks it but never asks me if I want to update or install it.

Word on the street is that clockwork doesnt always wipe dalvik properly, though i had not noticed when i used cw. Also you have options on what you want to back up in Amon Ra where as clockwork just back up EVERYTHING. Amon ra is just generally considered more stable. Thats all really, most everything else is the same.

Either is misnamed or its a bad download...remove the .zip from the end and see what happens, if no go try redownloading...

Here's two other things to consider:

1) Are you sure you have S-OFF (You'd be surprised what you can still do with S-ON, and never notice)
2) Are you using the stock sdcard, or a different one?

Beyond the other suggestions given here, these are the two most common reasons why you can't flash PC36IMG files from hboot.

damn, it says S-ON ?? How the heck did that happen?

How do I get it back to S-OFF ?

You still have Clockwork and a rooted ROM, right? It's very possibly you never had S-OFF. Like I said, you can still do quite a bit with S-ON and a custom recovery, and never even notice. Download Unrevoked forever, and flash it from recovery. You will then have S-OFF, and you can flash any PC36IMG.zip that you like.

Hey EVOM, the doofus again lol hey, what kind of available memory do you see on ESIII when you kill all apps?

I am lost on why recovery is needed to get vvm to work. Dload the apk..install it ...give it 24 hrs to activate.

Or is there wither way that is flashed?

Or did I completely miss that you are going to a different rom.

kill all apps? when i move them all to sd via a2sd i usually have 390m internal free according to titanium (i say according to titanium because spare parts and settings/sd, and titanium always have all diff numbers i think), is that what you mean?
