Help HOW TO: Reverting Back to 2.1

Question before I pull this trigger, I've seen a couple of confusing posts...do I need to pull out my SD card before I start this whole process or at anytime during it?

I can understand the mods needing to make sure the sbf file isnt put up, but the zip for the drivers and the zip for the rsd with the right patch in the first post i'm sure would help a lot of people... especially if this thread is a sticky.
People can get the sbf file if they do enough searching, granted, same situation with the rsd and drivers, but I dont see why those two zips still cant be put on the first post.
Mods? thoughts on this option? I dont believe theres any C&D for those, right?

Help! SOS... I got brave and just did this in attempt to get back from froyo to 2.1 and everything seemed fine with RSD, said restart phone manually and now all I can get is an endless loop boot process on the phone! I pulled the battery to no avail! I can't find the damn thread with this info, please help!

Lol someone didn't read the instructions :P

Hold pwr +home and do a factory wipe, you'll be fine.

Pull the battery out.

Now put the battery back in and QUICKLY hold the power and home buttons (I had to do it 3 times until I got the motion of inserting the battery and holding the buttons down) until the little android guy pops up. Then press search, and scroll down to Factory Wipe.

Bah! I followed the instructions that came with my friggin 'CHeeZburger' lol :D

And it didn't tell me about that part. Thought I had all my ducks in a line.

Anyhoo, I think that fixed it or a bunch of re-insertions of the battery. Now I'm almost too damn scared to try root. WTF....:o

..sweat dripping down my body...

Use universalandroot (I think that's what it's called) from the market. Probably the easiest thing I've ever done.

Just did that last night. Worked a treat. Wireless Router/Wifi.. whatever FTW! I just missed the increased volume on alerts and whatnot now... I want a bugless Froyo! :o but don't we all...

PS: ? Assuming the official OTA is a no go with 'root', I presume we can simply reverse it with the "UniversalandRoot" and have back at it?

Went back to 2.1 yesterday and I to got thrown into a loop. Once that happens, you can't turn the phone off. I did unplug the usb, but I think I was to late.

Fix? I simply popped the battery and started it up per the directions and wiped. I'm in like flinn....

Much thanks to Eric for all his work and help with this. I didn't have to use his specific help, but it's a huge load off your back knowing that he was out there to help. THANKS!

Now that I'm back, it's definitely the right choice for me. 2.1 is WAY smoother than 2.2. Less glitchy and way more.... well, just right. It's hard to verbalize. But I hope that the official release of Froyo is as clean.

So, im not sure what or how it happened but my rsd doesnt recognise my phone when I plug it in anymore on that right hand screen.
I had the orgional 4.6.0 drivers installed, but earlier today I plugged in my phone and some "motoconnect" screen came up and installed drivers to 4.7... ever since them it hasnt worked in rsd.
I've removed the 4.7 drivers and reinstalled the 4.6 and still no go...
anyone have any thoughts?

ok so I had a thought but I need some who has done thiss help.
Can someone who this has worked for open up rsd and plug in their phone and see if it comes up in the left side box?
Im trying to see if the phone has to be in the bootloader to show up or is it still shows up without being in bootloader.

You must be in bootloader

I downloaded and installed rsd lite and patch, put the patch flash in the motorola folder. Loaded the sbf file in rsd lite but the program wont load/recognize my x at all in rsd lite...Disconnected phone, loaded rsd lite and sbf file, booted in bootloader mode and when I connect nothing happens in rsd lite. Any suggestions?

Thank you for this thread! It worked and I'm back to running smoothly on 2.1. The 2.2 leak broke my WIFI. Thought I'd just deal with it until the official update rolled out but it was just bugging me not having wifi! Now i'm realizing 2.1 is a lot soother too. The leaked update is just not right. Flash was fun though.

i am loving this rom except for the search button error. browser doesnt force close on me at all and i got the themes working. heres a pic of my benchmark :)

2.2 won't be upgraded for those who leaked to 2.2.

Otherwise: if you used the leaked 2.2, you MUST flash to get the OTA update.

However; this is not to say that they won't have the OTA available in an "Update.zip" package.

yeah I just saw that this morning... sounds like the same idea as what happened to the evo guys... As badly as I dont want to loose root and my themeing and everythign else ive done, I'll probiably wind up flashing back to 2.1 right before the update comes out. I'd rather have the "official" 2.2 because im sure it has the minor bugs fixed from the leaked version. and I should be able to re-root it using the droid 2 method it seems... only time will tell I guess lol.

also: how come this lost its sticky along with everything else in this section?
