Root [HOW-TO] Simplified Root + Recovery + Custom ROM

Thanks for the tip about step 9, I couldn't remember the exact placement of the options, CWM recovery is slightly different for different phones & versions. I updated OP's step #9. Welcome to the world of rooting & custom ROMs!

should this take about 5 minutes to boot up on the first time because it is and my stomach is churning....please resond...lol....ehhhh

If it takes longer than 12 min. ,pull battery and try again.
It sometimes takes a few tries. When you hear the VM boot jingle your rooted.

That's what we do here. Pay it forward sometime when you get a little experience with this phone. That's what keeps this forum running.

What he meant by reinstall was put the battery back in

now i dooo....but there is no market nor any other google apps....why is that.....can i get it? or am i without it forever
Update: I just realized i downloaded the one that doesnt have the green machine theme is that why?

i found it in the File Manager that comes with it....but is says: Application Not Availble....i didnt flash it did i?

Green machine is just a theme you add to backside but first let's get your Google apps. Get the gapps.zip file, you can find it in the backside thread, make sure it's in the root of your sd card, go back into your recovery, select install zip as you did when installing the Rom but this time select gapps.zip once that's finished push back then select reboot, now it will have you sign in with your Google account then lead you into downloading Google apps from the market, download what you need and welcome to backside.

OP, thanks for the guide. I'm not totally tech ******ed.. I'm just "Tech Nervous" if that makes sense.. lol.. I was able to do this with no problems at all.

Thanks again!

i want say thanks to all you guys who put time and effort on here building and helping all of us. i am very good at computers but this had me really worried at 50 it was not good for me either :D but everything went very well it may have took me 3 hours back and forth reading and checking myself but now glad i did it thanks to you guys take care:)

Gingerbroke recently. Getting comfortable running root privileges before deciding on how to proceed.

After reading about running gingerbreak w/ stock sd card vs my replacement 16gb sd, I played around with both disks and made the following observation. Booting w/ 2GB sd is much faster due to never using it after activating phone. That makes sense because there was practically nothing loaded there and it is smaller. I decided to root with the 2 gb sd installed. It took 3 minutes from start to finish, including verifying a successful root.

Rooting was really a piece of cake thanks to The Android Exploid Crew, Chainfire, Whyzor, mkbkr1 and all community contributors.
