ICS: This is why Apple iPhone trumps Android.

I think with everything I offered my opinion about that I expounded on why I felt that way afterwards, but I have a feeling you may have been irratated with my post and you may have skimmed over my reasoning so I will respond...
Look, I was very courteous, sincere and not unreasonable. The least you can do is not use the ad hominem on me. It's not very nice and it's uncalled for.

I am currently using an HTC Rezound (been on stock and rooted roms), I think iOS is smoother because I, for one use my internet browser alot for work related things and I find that too often there seems to be delays with a page loading, and it also seems like it will often select the wrong things on a page, so then I will have to go back and zoom in on what I wanted to select to begin with.
That's disappointing. Way too many variables to say with any certainty that it's the OS. Long waits and partial page loads are a fact of life on the worldwide web these days because of 1.) lots of scripting, 2.) in-process plug-ins, 3.) large numbers (like dozens) of content being pulled from numerous 3rd party servers all over the world, to mention a few

This problem is platform independent and typically Internet-based IME. Do you have an example that is more of a real test of the OS itself?

It has been well known that (one) of androids big advantage over the iphone is adobe flash, well since the ICS update they have embeded code into the browser to identify streaming of video within the browser so it will not load (not without rooting, finding a hacked version of adobe flash, then getting dolphin browser and using it to watch video on website)
Which browser are you claiming has this "embeded [sic] code"? If it's a browser issue, why are you taking it out on ICS? You do know that browsers are applications, and you have a choice, don't you?

With my iphone I load up skyfire and wait for it to load. <Much easier than everything I mentioned above.
Again, what in particular about ICS pisses you off about that?

the rezound was touted as "one of the first phones to be upgradable to ICS" that has been 7 months ago.
I'll presume that "the rezound" is a phone, because that's what comes up when I Google it. I could understand if you were angry at those who "touted", but still don't see how this can possibly be a trait of ICS itself. Can you please explain that for me? It seems that you're angry at a lot of things and are picking ICS (seemingly at random) to be the whipping boy, which makes no sense.

It is well known that verizon has held back the release of ICS...
Please, if you don't want to (or can't) answer my question, just say so. Also, could you do me the courtesy of just answering me directly? This "like I said" theme is tedious and discourteous to me. Thank you.

I am sorry if how I responded bothered you, I did not mean it to. But I did give answers on my reasoning, and you asked me to answer them again. I thought I had summed them up well the first time. But again, I did not mean to hurt feelings.

1. But with the webpages loading, I have done tests on the same connection/same websites. For me using safari on iOS is faster and more accurate than any browser I have used on android.

2. The browser that you said I am "claiming" (which if you want more info you can google it) has code embedded is the stock browser, again I explained what I have done to bypass this which makes me think you don't read my responses, you just reply to what you want to.

3. Assuming "the rezound" is a phone is correct, since we are on an android forum I figured that many would know this. From here forward I refer to it as "Verizon wireless HTC Rezound android phone", just so everyone knows what I am refering to.

4. Verizon holding back ICS...please google "verizon rezound ics held back"

Your laziness on reseaching these simple things is quite irritating.

Now I have answered all of your questions, if you do not find them satisfactory I do apologize. And please make sure you read my 3 posts in this thread fully and throughly, it seems very discourteous that I have answered all of your questions and you are still patronizing me.

Time for everyone to lighten up a bit.

It's just a phone OS, no one is kicking anyone's dog.

Not everything comes across in text as may be thought or assumed.

If no common ground exists, shake hands like pals, agree to disagree on this one point, and move on to debate another day.

I see no bad guys here, so please take that to heart.

Cheers, thanks! :)

Thanks Mon!, you've seen me around these parts for awhile. I try to keep a level head.

Speed- Agree to disagree!

I have both, and giving the nod to Apple for now. The Nexus S 4g on ICS sucks(Lags, choppy, GPS issues)

Until Google can put out a flag ship phone line that atleast mimics the consistency of the Apple IOS products, it will be a tweak friendly but the less functional/user friendly device.

Not to discount your opinion, but I find a lot of people complaining about the ICS upgrade haven't performed a full factory reset. It would go a long way to improving the performance of your phone.

As for the the the whole iOS .vs. Android thing, there's very little that one platform does that the other can't and while each has their respective strengths, we are talking differences in single digit percentages, not orders of magnitude.

The main limitation of iOS in my mind is their artificial restrictiveness of data transfer. You MUST go through ecosystem channels to move stuff around, and often times, that data can only be accessed via ecosystem products and/or services.

This goes against everything I stand for with technology and computing. My data, my rules. My devices should not dictate how I manipulate my data.

When would I consider an iPhone? The day that iCloud storage is just a repository, accessible from anywhere and from any device. The day that I can mount the iPhone as a USB mass storage device, drag and drop from host computer, and have iOS immediately recognize my files.

Until then, despite whatever magical or revolutionary features it might have, or how pretty the phone looks, I won't consider it. Computers are intended to serve humans, not tell us what's best for us, or define what limited scope they should be used.

Tech aside, there are plenty of other reasons I dislike Apple:

1) extreme lock-in business tactics
2) hyperbolic marketing that distorts reality
3) pretending to care about being environmentally friendly
4) frivolous patent lawsuits

The banal argument that Apple must defend their legally-issued patent is so flawed. Because of the nature of these loosely-awarded general patents, tons of companies are always in violation. If there were true harm, Apple should be suing a lot more than just Android manufacturers, or at the least, seeking licensing agreements with others. And if you actually read these lawsuits and understand the actual tech that they're crying foul about, it's so clear that they are just grasping at straws.

The Nexus S 4G was the launch device for Gingerbread. And was by no means considered a flagship device either at the time. And While the Nexus S might not be running ICS very fluidly, it is over 18 months old, and still supported by Google 100%. The iPhone 4 stopped being 100% supported a year after it launched (no Siri when 4S launched, the flagship feature). ICS was a massive change for Android, and it has caused issues for a lot of phones who started life on Gingerbread, unfortunately. But that is a consequence of making major changes, something Apple refuses to do. And those changes led to Jelly Bean, which is the most amazing version yet, and once the Nexus S gets that, I am nearly certain you will change your tune. :)

All good stuff here. Thanks for the info. The fact they call it "eco" is enough for me to stay clear away. The enviro world is nuts.

I looked in the Nexus S 4G area and saw that there wasn't much on ICS there. You might want to drop in on the Galaxy SII (Sprint) area and browse the ICS discussion thread where there's a LOT of experiences, tips and tricks that might benefit you as well. A lot of us have been trying all sorts of things to see what works and what doesn't. Maybe some of it can help you get your ICS install settled down.

Hope this helps!

Wow, that's cool! I didn't know much about Megahertz, but I remember driving by USRobotics (on I-90 IIRC) and thinking they must supply automakers. (Car-making robots were big news around that time.) Years later I was a frequent USR modem buyer. I still keep a couple of old USR ISDN boxes and the ubiquitous 3C905 NICs handy just in case.

I almost forgot who I was working for. Parts of Megahertz (everything except the work ethic) blended together as we changed masters. I had the same parking space, cubicle and other stuff through 4 corporate changes.

I had the same parking space, cubicle and other stuff through 4 corporate changes.
That was convenient!

When the acquisition rumors were circulating at my last big corporate job (and I do mean last!), I had been living in Chicago for a dozen years and hadn't owned a car for nearly as long. I went out and bought my first car in a long time to be prepared for a job in the suburbs.

When it seemed like I had a future with the new corporate overlords, and looked like a shoe-in for a DBA job at corporate HQ in Oak Brook, I figured it was fate. So what happens? A guy who's already planning on defecting to take a job with his boss gets the job (then promptly quits), and I get his old job at the same place where I've been working all along. :stupid:

The cost of the car and monthly fees for indoor parking in downtown Chicago became worthwhile when my new corporate overlords broke their contractual promise to me, decided to act badly and thoroughly disgusted me. Since they had broken the contract, I was free to leave without notice. And I did, leaving behind a pair of thick black rubber burnout marks and billowing clouds of tire smoke.

I always wanted to do something like that. :D

Worked once for a large (nameless) corp as a DBA. Totally saved their asses when all hell broke loose - spent something like 30 hours on a massive conference call. Three months later they outsourced us all. Thanks guys...

We now return you to your regular scheduled program currently in progess...

All this Android vs iOS is ********. Just buy whatever fulfills your needs, buy whatever you like, and let the others do the same, it's not so complicated. My twin brother has an iPad 2, I just bought a Nexus 7.

Also, if you have an X product and you get mad at someone that has a Z product, then there must be something about the Z product that you like ;)

Anyway, I respect people that like Apple products, I respect people that buy Android products, just buy whatever you want and enjoy it.

Good night.

In the place I mentioned, I became the de facto DBA for the entire organization after discovering that the sa account on every SQL Server in the enterprise (save mine) was blank. Did I get thanks? No, I got another responsibility.

In retrospect I should have stuck to my original plan of e-mailing a list of everyone's salaries in the department to everyone in the department.

You couldn't be more wrong.

I have it on good authority that if we stop arguing, a bomb attached to the bottom of the world will explode, destroying the earth and all civilization. Do you really want to be not remembered as the person who caused the world to blow to bits! I didn't think so! Now get out there and work on some life-giving discord, mister...

To me the Iphone is outdated compared to Google and Android. Yes outdated. The Iphone5 is outdated and it hasn't even came out yet.

If you look carefully you will see that Google has came in and became the "new" apple. They are leading the game in innovation and technology.

So, with that being said. I choose to be on the side that is progressing, puts out more than 1 phone every 2-3 years and doesn't limit everything that I choose to do with MY phone.

Apple is for people that have money they dont know what to do with.

Android is for people that know a good investment when they see one.

Strictly my opinion so bash my opinions all you want. I dont care.

Bashing Apple in good fun is ok, it's part of the competitive horseplay among users.

Characterizing iPhone users harshly from up on a high Android horse makes it hurtful in a personal way.

And nothing upsets my dog more than people getting hurt feelings.

So let's be having no more of that.

BTW, my dog has yet to be wrong on these things.

Cheers, thanks. :)

What are you smoking, mister?

Demanding (and getting) total control over a project tends to stifle innovation.

Google has been wise to provide one piece of the whole, and allow many OEMs to be creative with the hardware, and developers of all stripes to write software on their terms. And it's paid off handsomely.

That's not to say that Google won't get drunk with power one day, as Apple has done so many times in the past, and break the spell...

What do you mean when you say outdated? Talk is cheap, provide facts. Bob will listen. My Android phones are not worth what I paid for them. But I do not purchase phones as an investment. I can sell iPhones all day long for almost what I would have paid for them. Especially if unlocked.

So due tell . . . what can you do with your Android phone I cannot do with an iPhone?

As for how long Apple takes to release a new phone compared to Android, so what? You Android users are merely beta testers, Smiley! Perhaps those on the android side are still trying to get it right? Like a new cook trying to learn how to make a great pie or a proper baked Alaska. They try all sorts of things, too.

I had an iPhone 4s since last fall. Just felt too locked in. Not very customizable and feels like you are borrowing the device from Apple to play with.
