Yes you do, and you have complete control of the $3,000 retainer you will need to just get the case started, if you can find a competent attorney to take it on.

When they push the update if your not on the 2.2.1 it won't take and alert V.

Honestly, them cutting us off for rooting our phones is not going to happen. That isn't the issue here at all, and nobody is saying it is. If Apple can't do anything about it, neither can Verizon. Once someone finds a scrap of evidence in any of Verizons literature stating that rooting their devices will be punishable by termination of service, then we'll start talking about that.

Right now the only issue is that they're going to start monitoring those of use who are rooted and tethering internet services illegally. This is the only thing being mentioned right now. Well, that and they might actually start denying claims made on insurance by those who are rooted. Neither of those issues should effect anyone who's being responsible with their rooted devices.

A rooted device alone is no reason to be alarmed about.

you're assuming in not the attorney myself?? or that i don't have a very good relationship with my attorney...

Verizon already knows that you're rooted...they don't need to push an update to find that out...

Verizon knows your Social Security number...Verizon knows where you're sitting right now (even if you have your GPS off)...Verizon knows who your last text was sent to, and what it said...Verizon knows you and your gf have a habit of sending naked pictures to each other...

Come and gone? Google knows Verizon and the other carriers are going to start sticking it to those consumers who are tethering illegally by either charging us overages on our bills, or possibly even suing us to make examples out of us like the music companies did (which btw, I thought you were against illegal tethering after reading your latest posts?). So they're going to zap those apps off the market so we can't get ourselves into trouble.

Hey, someone has to save us from ourselves. :D

i just mean that they could have refused to remove it...or contacted TBH to fix the issues before totally removing it...

it was a little more in jest than anything else...i am very against illegal tethering, as it seems more and more that this is what VZW is having a problem with

So p3 is getting shut down. Interesting.....I always knew charging people for leaks and for software that circumvent Verizon's TOS would come back to haunt him.

well their app has been removed from the market...it still works if you have it...and they are hosting it in other places now...

though if i were him i would remove the tethering app/hack

Just goes to show you , just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I was very outspoken against that when it was released. If I were him I would pull everything. Im starting to see why his tweets have been so melancholy . Guess he saw the writing on the wall.

Well, again I'll say that people might be overreacting. Verizon can track anything (and I'm sure they do already). They cannot stop your service for being rooted or THAT would be breach of contract. Now they probably can charge you for services you are using and not subscribed to (tethering) or not honoring warranty claims if you've altered your phone.

Im fine with that. Im going to keep running GB ... its head and shoulders above Froyo in my opinion. Everyone just needs to relax. If you tether illegally just stop. 'Nuff said.

Because you said they would hear from your attorney, that pretty much led me to believe you were not. As to the other point of a good relationship with one, I eluded to that about the attorney on speed dial.

But to save the rest I will just watch and read on this and the other subject (tethering), I can see this is going to get out of control again and really don't understand why emotions are running so high over this lol IT'S A PHONE! LOL

Back to hooker speak and enjoy reading all of your opinions , which are all appreciated! :)

there is nothing to get out of control...VZW has no legal right to deny you service for being rooted...

Just a thought. Has anyone reached out to our bretheren communities (Fascinate, Incredible, etc.)? Or has even anyone reached out to the iPhone development community? I'm sure someone there knows things as well.

if they start tracking??...they already are...and have been...

staying rooted on GB leak for now...ive done nothing to cost VZW extra money...i don't tether, and ive never tried to return my rooted phone for a replacement/repair...

rooting is legal...if they try to take me to court they will lose...

correct, unlocked bootloaders are going to become less and less common...and while i disagree with the practice i completely understand it...

absolutely...the only thing they cannot do is forbid rooting...because its protected by the DMCA under the mobile device exception...

i agree that Sense and Blur are getting better and better..and will begin to challenge the custom ROMS for features...

my biggest concern however, and i mentioned this earlier is that im always going to want the best hardware as well as software...

i dread the day when my choice is between a unlocked Nexus device, and a locked down Moto device that is easily superior on the hardware front...

as much as im going to want the Nexus for the openness, knowing i bought an inferior product on the hardware front will haunt me...

right...fanboy attitudes don't get you anywhere...

according to P3 you were on the list if you rooted your phone back on Froyo as well...this is not a new development with GB...

correct

yes

correct

you bet

you bet...Moto and VZW are very much responsible for the popularity of Android...

what exactly is this in reference to? do we have some more context for this??

Droid-Life tweeted about this whole situation.

Then I saw TeamAndIRC tweet droid-life what I posted.

So I tweeted TeamAndIRC asking if there was some inside information, and that was my response from TeamAndIRC

Man this thread has exploded!

I'm going to stick to GB...even if VZW knows the phone is rooted.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if certain ROMs prevent your phone from accessing the network. If I remember, there was a SBF leak that wouldn't allow your phone to activate on the network.

I just hope VZW get a Nexus phone to appease us.

You don't want to mess with verizon, they have a crack team of lawyers!

Check em out on the web - Dewey Cheatum and Howe

I know, I suck! :D

I'd say it's not so much a question of 'Dew' as it is a question of 'Gwen'?

(By the way, the 'G' in her name is silent)

;)

I have a question .... if you tether occasionally (strictly web searching) and never go over the 5 gb limit, how or why would verizon come after you? Just because you violated TOS and not necessarily the data cap?

Doug

It does not matter if you tethered for free for one minute, second, or hour ...you are stealing a premium service and that's how they see it

Also this is not an issue of being able to or not because someone is under their said allotted 5gb of data ...has nothing to do with it ....it relates to the fact that people ate tethering to power ANOTHER device off of vz network for free

Rumor going around is you even if you turned wifi tether on there going to shut us down.I/E kicked to the curb. I already picked my spot out.
