Root [Kernel][GB] KoumaKernel 2.5

Ok, it has come to my attention that 1.4 does not work with CTMod 3.1.2.
Apps cannot install.
I was able to force some to install, but it's a PITA.
I suspect Bloodawn and I have done something divergent and his init scripts are not compatible with 1.4.
I tried stripping the scripts, but the phone gets stuck FC'ing so something in there is necessary :)

I'll dick with it some and see what I can get going on Monday

Okay that's great to hear! I thought I was going crazy as I was having some issues with some of my apps. I'll just revert back to 2.5 then till this gets fixed. It's probably something very silly. :D

I'm now sitting on a fresh CTmod 3.1.2 install with its included kernel, fully formatted SD card, and a fresh set of my basic user apps installed. Home key works as well. If you need a tester, i'm g2g.

OK, I'm doing a few final tests on 1.5 before I post it. Right now, I'm running it with CTmod 3.1.2 along with the super secret mod, which will now be the dalvik-cache folder due to CTmod really having a fit with data/data being a bit slower.

I'm about to try it with stock and make sure all is well there.

I've not checked it out with CTmod 2.5 so anyone brave is free to try it out there and let me know how it does.

Update: it doesn't work with stock. It won't mount the rfs filesystems.

KoumaKernel1.5_CWM.zip

here's 1.5 as-is
it's compiled from Hroark's 2.6.35.14 source.
it has the ability to mount /sd-ext as /data/app
the Super Secret Mod is now the mounting of /sd-swap (reformatted to ext4) as /data/dalvik-cache. You'll need to erase that partition if you were using the old SSM.
You'll also have to erase the files in that directory manually to wipe the dalvik-cache.
in theory, you can now do that on the fly with "rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache/*"

this works with the newest CTmod, but not with RFS filesystem setups (i think only stock is rfs)

I'm going to go ahead and cook something up for those that want a stock rom with KK

You are rolling these kernels in man I'll test tomorrow, good job!

All this talk about this 'Super Secret Mod' is making me anxious to find out what the 'Super Secret Mod' is all about... even though it's 'Super Secret'. Its like giving a kid a Christmas present and telling him to not open it, because it's 'Super Secret'. ;)

P.S: Going to give this kernel a whirl I'll let you know in awhile how things turn out.

Now on CTmod 3.1.2, KK 1.5 test.

After installing and rebooting, all my user apps were gone. (Although i know your feelings on titanium backup) I tried restoring just user apps and data with TB, but it hung on the first one. Manually reinstalled them off market and they work fine. Successfully restored data for Beautiful Widgets with TB.

Checked out the internal memory and it was full, like everything installed to it. I'm sure I formatted all the SD-card partitions when I redone the phone monday. Did i miss something? Is this kernel supposed to have a2sd built in?

Hey Kouma,

The standard Bluetooth audio quality on the prevail is less than desirable. I remember reading someplace that this was a bitrate settings in the kernel config and that it could be increased before compiling to increase the bluetooth transmit quality, you know anything about this? A possible for a future release?

Would be greatly appreciated $$ ;)

I'll look into it when I get a chance. I'm stuck at the dmv waiting to take my motorcycle test. If you find a link, please share it

Okay been testing 1.5 all this morning and into the afternoon.

I haven't come across any problems that I know of. It's working fine with the latest version of CTMOD. I've yet to get any force close situations. Ravious previously mentioned the blue-tooth issues but honestly I don't use blue-tooth so I can't check if there are problems in that area. Other then that I think this is a great update to the kernel. I'll keep testing it to see if I can come across any issues.

When I get home I'm going to do a fresh Odin and restart from scratch and build up from there. See if I come across any issues and then let you know.

I installed 1.5 but now when i try to restore my porn with titanium backup i get message saying something about 5 dollar haircuts every thursday. Is this normal?

first like to thank you and bloodawn for your hard work, iam running ctmod 3.1.2 with kk 1.2,now your saying for me to install i need to partion my card again , and where do i erase the files??as you can tell iam a noob but iam learning alot, lol i think, you couldnt explain it in more detail could you for us noobs that wanna run your kernel?or maybe someone else can help? i like to thank all you guys again for youe hard work

If you're just flashing the kernel, the best way is to boot into cwm, advanced, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, move back do factory wipe, then flash kernel. Just make sure to backup FIRST

Just updated my gf's phone to FA19 and tried to load this kernel for the extra space (which is her only issue). Boots and runs fine. Can't partition sd card for some reason in CWM and/or can't get it to read in internal storage. I've tried versions 1.4 and 1.2. Sd card comes up same size after partitioning, and so does internal storage. Formatting sd-ext in CWM results in error, so does attempting to mount (leading me to believe the sd card isn't even being partitioned). Using the FA19 pre-rooted odin tar with CWM.

Did you try to partition on a pc? The format is probably incorrect... Go into menu> settings> storage> erase sd card. (THIS WILL ERASE THE SD CARD ;) ) it SHOULD reformat it correctly, then partition it in cwn

I'm having the issue of it not mounting my data, I'm on ctmod 3.2.5 and I'm using kk1.5 I'm about to try it on CT mod 2.5

What do you mean by it not mounting your data?
I am running what I would believe to be the exact same configuration and it's working fine.

if you're looking in your settings>Storage Settings>Available space, then you should know that this is an inaccurate number. It's is just as inaccurate as running DT's A2SD.

Proof can be seen at Settings>Application Settings>Storage Use. You can probably add up just the first 2-3 items and compare it to the number at the bottom and see that they don't match.

The most accurate measure of your available space is to open a terminal and type "df" without quotes

Example:
Code:
# df
df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 145180 80 145100 0% /dev
tmpfs 145180 0 145180 0% /mnt/asec
tmpfs 145180 0 145180 0% /mnt/obb
/dev/stl14 95744 4152 91592 4% /cache
/dev/stl13 163768 37452 126316 23% /data
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 1818512 117759 1603732 7% /data/app
/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 1910100 102684 1710388 6% /data/dalvik-cache
/dev/stl12 164272 101164 63108 62% /system
/dev/block/vold/179:1 3873268 1406108 2467160 36% /mnt/sdcard
/dev/block/vold/179:1 3873268 1406108 2467160 36% /mnt/secure/asec

This shows me that my /dev/stl13 is 23% full, and has about 37megs used (the phone claims 27Megs)
It also shows how much I have in apps, and cache, (6-7% of my maximum, which is already damn near twice what the internal could handle on it's own)

So, go take a look at your true numbers and see if things make a bit more sense

My new toy, thought I'd brag a bit. Other Riverside, CA residents from this board might be able to tell who I am now when I drive by, but that's OK

No I did not partition it on pc. I've tried formatting it in both android setting and recovery before attempting to partition it again. I get that it won't show the correct amount of data, however, shouldn't the available sd space change due to the partition? Not to mention the errors I'm getting in recovery when trying to format or mount sd-ext. Any other ideas? My girl doesn't need a fully modded out phone like what I do with my Epic, and with my experience in this kind of stuff something like this shouldn't be giving me such a hard time. It's got me hella aggravated, lol.

Strange. can you try clearing your dalvik cache, or reflashing

when im partitioning a card, (8GB)
it first asks me the size i want to make it,
but then the second part it askes me for more memory
0MB
then 64MB
147MB
then about 256MB

what does this second selection do?
cache or something?

the first question is the important one, that's the size for the SD-ext. pick the number you feel comfortable with.

the second part is for a swap partition, the one with a 0MB option, it is utterly useless for most mods, leave it at 0 and it wont make that partition, it is referred to internally as mmcblk0p3, or the third partition.

everything left over will be assigned to the normal sdcard partition

The total space available will be reduced when you are successful in partitioning the sdcard. Once it's running, adding files to the extended partition(s) will not be reflected in the usage of the primary sdcard partition

Ok, so why won't it partition? The card has been formatted, and it won't partition in CWM. Once again, I have her running the rooted tar package of FA19 with CWM and your 1.2 kernel. This worked fine when I had her on cm7, but cm7 gave her too many issues.
