Root [Kernel][GB] KoumaKernel 2.5

Ok, so why won't it partition? The card has been formatted, and it won't partition in CWM. Once again, I have her running the rooted tar package of FA19 with CWM and your 1.2 kernel. This worked fine when I had her on cm7, but cm7 gave her too many issues.

Could be a bug in CWM for your particular card.
If you know how to use ADB, boot her phone into CWM recovery, then use your computer to log into the phone with "ADB shell"

then run "sdparted -i"
it will ask you questions about how big you want partitions to be and what format to make them. pick 0 for swap and the number of MB you want for the ext4 partition. when it asks the type of partition, type out ext4
Answer Y/n? questions with an uppercase Y because it's case sensitive that way.
If something isn't working right, it will give you an error. if it all goes well, it will give you a report at the end

I appreciate the help but I don't need the "how to for dummies". I know what I "can" do but I'm troubleshooting this from 200 miles away over the phone. I'm not going to have her setup adb on her pc or mess with adb commands. That's what CWM is for. No one, is however answering my questions. It's the same recovery as was packaged with cm7, so why would partitioning work in that case, and not here if CWM is the variable in the equation causing it to not partition, as your so trying to claim. Is there anyone who has specifically come across this issue and knows for sure what's causing it? How to fix it?

There is no reasonable explanation as to why it would work with CM7 and not with CTmod or this kernel. It;s not even related to this kernel so you're already off topic.

your issue seems to stem from CWM not partitioning. CWM is the same no mater what rom you're using

So, that said, either there is something wrong with her installation of CWM, There is something wrong with her SDcard, or she's not following your instructions.

That's the only 3 possible reasons

What do you mean by it not mounting your data?
I am running what I would believe to be the exact same configuration and it's working fine.

if you're looking in your settings>Storage Settings>Available space, then you should know that this is an inaccurate number. It's is just as inaccurate as running DT's A2SD.

Proof can be seen at Settings>Application Settings>Storage Use. You can probably add up just the first 2-3 items and compare it to the number at the bottom and see that they don't match.

The most accurate measure of your available space is to open a terminal and type "df" without quotes

Example:
Code:
# df
df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 145180 80 145100 0% /dev
tmpfs 145180 0 145180 0% /mnt/asec
tmpfs 145180 0 145180 0% /mnt/obb
/dev/stl14 95744 4152 91592 4% /cache
/dev/stl13 163768 37452 126316 23% /data
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 1818512 117759 1603732 7% /data/app
/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 1910100 102684 1710388 6% /data/dalvik-cache
/dev/stl12 164272 101164 63108 62% /system
/dev/block/vold/179:1 3873268 1406108 2467160 36% /mnt/sdcard
/dev/block/vold/179:1 3873268 1406108 2467160 36% /mnt/secure/asec

This shows me that my /dev/stl13 is 23% full, and has about 37megs used (the phone claims 27Megs)
It also shows how much I have in apps, and cache, (6-7% of my maximum, which is already damn near twice what the internal could handle on it's own)

So, go take a look at your true numbers and see if things make a bit more sense

I go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and when I run 1.3 it shows I have almost a full gig of space but when I run 1.5 it shows the measly 100 and some odd megs. And when I'm running 1.3 the "mount /data" option in CWM sticks to "unmount /data" but when I run 1.5 and i click "mount /data" (which should change it to "unmount /data") I can back out and go back in and it will change back to "mount /data". I know thats kinda all over the place but hopefully you catch my drift. Nice bike btw I'm looking at one as well.

Nice ride Kouma . I don't know what Riverside is looking like this weekend but we're gonna get up in the 80's in Bakersfield. Nice bike riding weather. :D

Hey Kouma, i've done a similar deal as Zeinzu, in I set my wife's phone up, its on ctmod 2.5 and your 1.2 kernel. Its totally stable and golden. I've been testing lol. Anyway odinned rooted fa19, flashed ctmod 3.1.2 and went ahead and flashed your 1.5 kernel. I've been running ctmod with a2sd, so my SD card's already ext4 format with 1 gb partition. Started installing apps fresh from the market but they go straight to internal, as a test I reflashed a2sd and ran check. It notes the correct format but the SD_ext will not mount

Update: ran the command described, everything is definitely going to internal memory and the sd _ext is unmounted. Going to check it in cwm next

the first question is the important one, that's the size for the SD-ext. pick the number you feel comfortable with.

the second part is for a swap partition, the one with a 0MB option, it is utterly useless for most mods, leave it at 0 and it wont make that partition, it is referred to internally as mmcblk0p3, or the third partition.

everything left over will be assigned to the normal sdcard partition

The total space available will be reduced when you are successful in partitioning the sdcard. Once it's running, adding files to the extended partition(s) will not be reflected in the usage of the primary sdcard partition

the second one was the one i had no clue what it was for.
lolz
does it even speed up the loading process or anything?
wish there was a way to make the sd card into ram.
like speed booster for windows 7
xD that would make everything crazy fast! O_O
mainly with fast cards i guess lolz, only dreams and ideas from me haha

You can also use the minipartition tool. Reformatted my sd card and then repartitioned with 1024 sd_ext and 256m swap. Flashed back to ctmod 2.5 and its golden again

Maybe something in the GB FA19??

Just a heads up Kourma. I did that fresh install and ODIN to FA19. I then installed the latest CTMOD 3.1.2 and put your KK 1.5 kernel. Everything went smooth and I'm not experiencing any issues at all. I can't test the bluetooth stuff but other then that it's smooth :)

Finally got mine figured out as well. I'm sure I did something the hard way but....

Full SD card wipe via settings/storage/erase SD card
Copy Rom and Kernel zips to SD card
Boot into Recovery
Reinstall CTmod 3.1.2 and reboot to homescreen and back to recovery
Install KK 1.5test and reboot to homescreen and back to recovery
Partition SD card w/ a 1g SD-ext and 0 swap and reboot to homescreen

I manually installed all my normal user apps and it didn't seem to affect the internal memory nowhere near as bad, so i installed a bunch of useless games and apps to make sure, and I did not get a low memory warning.

terminal "df" shows i've got 79mb in data, 89mb in data/app, and 4 mb in cache. Internal storage shows 72 mb used, but I added up just my downloaded apps and it was 95mb.

Installed some more games and internal memory is showing 90mb used, and adding up downloaded apps shows 167.7mb, which coincidentally is about how much internal memory i have showing total. Including system apps i'm far above what I had stock.

Beyond memory, i'm still getting a force close of com.android.phone when i try to edit a contact, but that's noted in CTmod's thread. I don't use anything on bluetooth to check unfortunately. Everything else is business as usual.

My new toy, thought I'd brag a bit. Other Riverside, CA residents fromt his board might be able to tell who I am now when I drive by, but that's OK

Hey kouma, I was almost gonna starta car crash.
I saw a Guy with a bike similar to yours and I was about to yell out
"Koumajutsu!!!!" But then I sawit was red and had a Box on the side. Lolz. PS. Shade ******ed so they both looked the same. Color. XD

LOL, I've been sticking pretty close to home, working my way up to riding in heavier traffic on bigger roads. So unless you see my orange bike with a white full face helmeted rider on it, it's probably not me

sorry, kind of confused here, you're saying that you partittioned the card last???
isn't this procedure the first thing you do before installing the rom or the kernel???

Yeah, i did a full SD card wipe, put the zips on it, flashed them, then partitioned afterwards. I thought maybe the kernel itself would create SD-ext, since the install instructions don't specifically say to do it yourself on a clean sd-card. but when i didn't see it say anything in the kernel script log about it, and the storage settings still showed the whole ~8 gigs on the card, I partitioned manually and the card lost the gig to sd-ext.

In recent news, I installed CTmod 3.2 today along with KK 1.5 without doing all that stuff. All i did was: boot to recovery, flash the rom, reboot to homescreen and then back to recovery, and flash the kernel. Everything worked as expected. As a simple test, i checked the internal memory before and after installing angry birds, and the 14mb app only took 3mb of memory, so i assume its working.

I also noticed today that since repartitioning the SD card, when i go into usb storage mode, my computer no longer complains about repairing my SD card. I assumed that the extra partition was causing it, since it started the first time i made the partition. Maybe the original partition was messed up somehow.

Is this your first motorcycle? I used to work at a motorcycle store and i'll tell you what i told everyone that got a bike from us.

1. Never park the bike on the kickstand while either pointing downhill and/or in neutral. Gravity sucks.

2. New tires are slippery, make sure to wear the shiny oxidized rubber off them before you try to hang corners at high speed (also, don't armor-all them  )

3. Never let your buddy ride your bike, unless he has more money or a much nicer bike than you.

I couldn't count how many month-old motorcycles came back to us because of one of those.

It's my first street bike. and it's been almost 15-20 years since I've ridden a dirtbike. I forgot just how many muscles you use to control a bike that you don't use in everyday life.... Owwwww.
also, why does it only hurt when I'm not riding?

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me, really apreciate. :D

I'll give it a try tonight...

I'll always remember this words from my granpa: "Never let your buddy ride your bike, car or wife, unless he has more money than you..." lol

Koumakernel 2.0?!?!?!?!?!? I just updated this weekend!?!?!?!?!?

I'm assuming this is just 1.5 test with a fancy new number. And yet somehow, I still feel compelled to update, because I feel inadequate without the newest and greatest. Now excuse me while I stand in a line for sixteen hours to buy something, even though everyone else will have one in a week.:D

LMAO ! No doubt . I open up the Forum and Kouma's got the new KK 2.0 AND a new ROM . Dude's got some skills 4 sure . :D Thanks Kouma .
