Root [Kernel][GB] KoumaKernel 2.5

last night i installed a lot of things on my phone wich caused it to FC and go back to lock screen everytime i installed..
i was wondering if 2.1 has caused anything similar with others. as to thats one of the things i installed.
just wondering. dont blame the kernel as of now. lolz

Rarewolf:
KoumaKernel2.1_CWM_fix.zip

Give this a try, Blood found an issue last night while testing CTmod3.3 that is probably what you happened to stumble upon.

I'll push the change into 2.2 on Monday

No problem with the new kernel here . Its working great .

Please dont tell me to go back and read read read. I've done that....too much. Still not getting it. Explain to me the difference of what it is now of how the kernel moves the different things to different places.

What I mean is, I am using the old setup of KK1.2 with CTMod 2.5 with a 2GB sdext partition, and that gives me a ton of internal memory.

Reading the latest posts with all the newer stuff everyone is raving about how great it is and how much internal memory they have, but what is the difference between what I have and what is going on now, what;s the difference and why is it better?

Short story long then:
1.2 mounts the SD-ext as /data
2.0 Updated the kernel binary and moved SD-ext to /data/app to improve speed
2.1 adds a way to mount SD-ext as /data if you so choose to
2.2 (which I'll put out monday) will put in some permissions fixes and I'll change the default a2sd mode to off so that you can pick which method you want without it goobering up what you have on your card already.

If you need more detail, then please, go back and read the thread

ok upgraded to kk2.1 only thing i didnt know was go in and wipe the dalvik cache...should i have? and by the time someone answers this post will it be alright to do it then if i have to ?

Partitioned card 2048mb ext and 0mb swap and formatted sd-ext using CWM. Installed CTMod 3.3 (ext was formatted again before rom was installed). Checked file koumamod, for now i just wasnt it to do what dark tremors does, so I did not change anything. (data was commented and ssm wasn't) Installed Titanium Backup and restored about 10 apps. On home page of TB, I checked and internal memory went down. It shows only free space for rom, internal and sd card. Nothing for sd ext. Is this how it's suppose to be? If so how can I get info for sd-ext? thanks in advance

I am trying to install koumakernel only (no CTMod) just to see how it is by itself, however, when I install koumakernel the phone gets stuck on the koumakernel boot screen.

I have tried the following:
1) ODINed the FA19 image
2) Waited for the phone to boot.
3) Rebooted to CWM, repartitioned, formated both the sdcard and sd-ext
4a) Copied koumakernel CWM zip and installed koumakernel through the SDcard update
or 4b) Rebooted to downloading and installed koumakernel through ODIN

I did that several times and phone gets stuck on the koumakernel red logo screen. Any ideas?

CTMod 3.3 worked earlier today, including accessing the sd-ext, however, I made sure that everything is formated; I even tried different partition sizes

EDIT: When CTMod is installed, the phone works fine...when I install koumakernel just by itself is not working?!...

open a terminal app. Type in df

Is it safe for me to update to 2.1/2.2 or will I have to wait for the guy who made HalfAssedRom (since that's what I used) to make an update to it as well?

Kouma, the guy who makes this kernel, is the same guy who did HalfAssRom.

I don't really see why you couldn't update from 2.1 to 2.2, but I've never done it that way.

i'm on ej06 can i flash kk 2.1 , i'm rooted and will i loose any apps or settings or do i need to do something else too? will switch to like ctmod but wanted to try kk and don't want to mess up phone on sun night.

or 2.2

I answered the question you posted on my wall . Go check it out .

Of course you can install CTMod 3.2 and KK 2.1 on EJ06 . You will need to back everything up and save to your PC because you will lose everything when you partition the card .

I explained it in a lot more detail on my wall . ;)

I did a clean install: ODIN FA19->HalfAssedRom->Kouma2.1CWMfix (from a few posts above) and is working fine.

I plan to update to 2.2. this week, after I receive the class 10 card I just ordered.

Hey Koumajutsu,

Sorry, just to be sure, I don't think I understood. I made a partition, installed ctmod 3.3, installed an apk with the apk installer, and now the internal storage went from 41mb to 47mb, but that's not really the internal, right? but rather the virtual one that's now in the sd card?

if you didn't change the koumamod file in /system then that is your internal.
what you'll find though is that 6mb of usage is probably quite a bit less than the apk file you installed would have taken up without the partition and CTmod

lol, ok sooo I guess I got so excited with the great stuff you and bloodawn have been coming out with that I didn't realize there was a trick in order to get this to work.

I used to be on ctmod 2.5 and had dta2sd with dalvik cache moved which then installed all the apps into the sdcard. I upgraded to 3.3 last night and read that you said that we won't need dta2sd with your kernel 2.0+

So how do I go about changing the "koumamod file in /system," or how do I make koumakernel 2.1 work like dta2sd.

Sorry for being a noob on this, but I guess I gotta start somewhere :D

Anything you install with the apkinstaller is installed to /system/app

Only apps installed to /data/app are moved to your partition

If you have SD next as data or SD ext.
It won't show on there its a hidden partition.

That's because the kernel doesn't support stock rom.
I believe there is a version that does.
