Good news, I'm 99% certain I fixed the gps issue with Data mode
Bad news, I left my phone at home, so I can't test it.

I'm missing something somewhere. Still no GPS. I went back to the EJ06 via Odin, rebooted and checked to make sure it took. All good. Then I updated CWM using CWM. Rebooted and checked. All good. Then I installed KK 2.3 using CWM. Rebooted and checked. All good except GPS. Sound like I missed anything?
Oh yeah, chose option 1 for /data and I'm on CT 3.3.
So far 10 minutes and no go. I might try the old "go back to stock and start over from scratch" method. Not tonight though. Nitey nite. When I tested it, it took me nearly 5 minutes to get a GPS location, but that's pretty normal with the crappy signal all GPS devices get in my office.
It did seem to lock up a bit quicker if I toggled use wireless networks on till I got an initial location, then back off.
...GPS is working with the /data mod...
When I usually have GPS issues on any mod like CTMOD or CM mod, I usually perform these steps and it fixes my issues.
- Download FasterFix from the Android Market Place.
- Run FasterFix and set your time pool to your country. Example: I set mine to North America. Then press Apply. You only need to do this once folks.
- Uninstall FasterFix
- Download GPSFix from the Android Market Place.
- Run GPSFix and place the android on a flat surface for a few minutes. Like a table or something. Make sure it has good reception for the GPS.
- Let it do it's single and dance until it's done. When it's done click on 'Start Fixing' again. The goal is to make the app Fix the location as quickly and instantly as possible.
- Eventually it will fix the location pretty much instantly the moment you hit 'Start'. When you get to this point your done.
- Uninstall GPSFix
Congrats your GPS has been fine tuned and now works flawlessly. I've done this every time I've ODIN'ed my phone and installed a mod from scratch. This includes countless versions of CTMOD and CM. t works for me every time.
Enjoy!
Tried it. Still no go.For those of you having GPS issues. There are methods to fine tune the locking for GPS. I posted a guide at the CM7 thread found here: http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...fficial-beta-5-02-20-12-a-47.html#post4027879
I'll quote it here just as a reference. Enjoy!
Tried it. Still no go.

Give this a try, let me know if it changes anything.
KoumaKernel2.3.2_CWMunofficial.zip
It has some changes I've been playing with regarding the mounts
I set the koumamod file to be in data mode for you so you shouldn't need to do anything but flash and reboot
Are you using Google Maps?
If so, try the built in navigation, it seems to wait longer before giving up on satellites
Also, this probably goes without saying, but make sure that Settings > Location and Security > Use GPS satellites is checked
I also had to stand outside. But then again, GPS signal in my office is crap
WOOT!!! Whatever you did nailed it. That sucka fixed on 7 birds in less than 1/2 a minute. I just flashed the test kernel, I didn't reformat the SD-Ext partition. Then I used CWM 5.2.7 to restore the data and SD-Ext from the last backup. GPSFix worked, Google maps worked, Waze worked.
One thing, I had just redone that Linux script you posted earlier (making the /data/gps directory and etc.) before I saw this post. I don't know if that would change anything you did.
BTW, GPS is line-of-sight so if anything is blocking the sky, it'll block the signal. I've had windows with reflective coating on them mess it up.
the biggest change I made was to not mount stl13 when running in data mode.
I noticed that ES file explorer and all terminals could see into the data folder fine, but File Explorer would somehow see into stl13 as /data even though sd-ext should have overridden it. I figured there must have been a race condition, so I set out to see if I could change how and when init would mount the partitions. What seems to work the best was to make a piece that lives in /system, that people can edit, that can be read by the kernel during boot.
You'll find that the koumamod file looks considerably different now.
I'm glad this interim build worked for you. I'll be merging those tweaks into my next full build, so think of this as a preview
Way different. I'm having fun picking it apart and trying to learn and understand it. I used to be kind of an OS guy, (from a support and troubleshoot point of view) and took a bunch of SCO Open System IV classes, but that was a looooooong time ago. This kinda takes me back. Any resources you can recommend as learning aids?
Hey Kouma just a quick question, I've been running 2.3 since you released it. Using the free version of Voltage Control with min at 98 and Max at 800
And On Demand. Bumped it up to 825, and it starts freezing. Is there anything I can do to get it stable?
