at this point I can't do another partition as explained using adb as I don't have a computer, I'm only working with the phone. Either I'm at the limit with what I have and with what I can do. Or I'm doing something wrong?

As I mentioned earlier. I'm just working with the phone itself.

READ WHAT I'M SAYING.

I MADE 3 PARTITIONS IN CWM

1 FOR SD STORAGE

1 FOR APPS

1 FOR DALVIK

IF YOU NEED MORE THAN THAT THEN YOU ARE CORRECT YOU NEED A COMPUTER.

and doesn't terminal way wipe card anyways? so there no difference.

but ya.

I used cwm

apps are external

dalvik is external

got 32mb swapfile on internal with data and still got over 30 mb free

once again

cwm
make
3
partitions

Well I wish you would have paid attention to me earlier on in our relationship :D

Sweet! I had no idea you could do more than one partiton in CWM. I thought once you made a partition you were done?

Incase you also missed this earlier, here ya go LMAO!!

Told ya I rode the short bus to school :D

Now I gotta read all over gain lol. I guess its time to do another partiton first :)

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you want SSM you can't use swap partition

unless
you ask one kouma for step by step. or someone of similar prevailing status. that requires terminal and you end up with
vfat-ext4(app)-ext4(dalvik)-swap

SSM using my method
vfat-ext4(app)-ext4(dalvik)

to make a swapfile long click the path and navigate to directory you want file in

for example what I did...
-long click first box
-click data
-click swap (only here cuz I made this folder first)
-top line says current directory
-click it
-choose 32mb (with all apps installed I had 60mb free so that why 32)
-priority 100
-save
-repeat except navigate to /data/app and 100 mb after click current directory. priority 1-99
don't matter as long as it less than first one.

Super Secret Mod In order to activate the Super Secret Mod (moves /data/dalvik-cache to SD), you do the following (I will not answer questions regarding this, it is for the Advanced user and if you can't figure it out, you're not an advanced user, and seriously, if you can't work ADB and run a CWM zip, you probably shouldn't be modding your phone anyways. Just sayin):
1) Boot into Recovery
2) ADB shell into the phone
3) Run "sdparted -i
4) Pick a size for a swap partition (CWM doesn't give you many size options, most are probably too small)
5) Pick a size for your EXT partition. Let the fat partiton have the rest.
6) When sdparted completes, manually convert the swap partition to ext4 by using the following:
SD Ext Partition Formatter for CWM

* Suggestions *: Pick the same size for both your ext and your swap partitions, they seem to fill up at about the same rate. For me, I picked 1987, because it is exactly 1/4th of my SDcard so I have swap = 1987, ext = 1987 and vfat = 3974. Total = 7948 (8gig sdcard)

NOT BLAMING KOUMA... But this is where it was implanted into my little brain that I had to use ADB Shell to have the extra partitions for SSM.

If it said somewhere to use CWM and make a partiton, then go back and make another partition. Then I would have been ok.

Uh... I gotta go, I see a little bus coming down the street :o

I have no idea what you just said. I need a break from this phone.

So I just went back and made another partition in CWM. I killed everything I had on the SD lol. I know better than that and I did it anyways without thinking :( I need to stop while I'm ahead and take a break for awhile. Lucky I just put in my 16gb card last night so everything I need is still on my 8gb card at home

That was my way of showing people that they didn't need 3rd party tools like Partition Magic or funky apps downloaded from the market place. There is a command line tool that partitions the sd card, quite efficiently, and in the very method that the phone prefers, right there on the phone already. No need for long winded tangents on what windows tool is "better", how to do the same with a Mac, and, if you figure it out, No need for funny tools to unpartition the card. sdparted (technically, parted. sdparted is just a bash script that acts as a front end, which btw, I'm currently modding, once done, we should be able to put it and the parted binary into mods so we can repartition without recovery) does it all

lol sorry if I sounded like a *****e

but im a *****e

and fyi when you partition in cwm choose your desired partition size then choose biggest (512?) size swap.

THIS WIPES ALL DATA ON SDCARD

either format and reboot and redownload ctmod and formatter zip, etc

or have some other way to get them on card.

if you got spare card...
put files on there
partition card you wanna use in cwm... then turn phone off.
swap cards
boot recovery
flash ctmod
don't boot just turn off
put blank but partitioned sd back in.
boot recovery and mount every thing in mount menu.
reboot
download formatter and flash in recovery

that ghetto way if no computer but 2 cards lol

other wise if you can get files back on partitioned card do this....

factory/data reset (so .Android folders or w/e are made. possibly not necessary but I do it so ima say I do it.

flash ctmod. flash sd2ext formatter zip. boot. follow steps how 432 did couple posts up now

and i forgot disclaimer:
if phone blows up cuz I'm an idiot it's your bad. but that is how I do it.
432 hasn't blown up either, he just keeps trying to swap ghost partitions in the matrix

damn I just spent hella long typing up more directions with

warning

and disclaimer

like that lol. so it couldn't be missed
good you got 2 cards cuz this last post got directions for that

and I'm blaming kouma :-P

OK ya, so I just did another partition but I dont see my SD card decrease in size at all, We are always trained to do 0swap. but for the other partition I should do 512swap? All I did was wipe everything and didnt get another partition.

Oh dont worry, If this thing hasnt blown up yet then I dont think it ever will, Besides it would give me something to point and laugh at :D

Ya lol. i know and I have known that it wipes the SD card clean. I'm just not thinking right now lol. Its all good cause i didnt lose anything that isnt saved somewhere else.

But ask me about the first time I partitoned it back when i first rooted it in the Shabby days :o It went like this ----> NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! MY STUFF!!!!!! MY PICS!!!!! OMMFG!!!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!!! :D LMAO true story bro..

o ya and before you partition.... in booted phone go to sd storage in settings. umount and wipe/format sd. that get rid of existing partitions. then when cwm make xxxx mb partition with 512mb swap

or 256 swap

kouma help me out how big can cwm make swap? don't wanna reboot recovery and check cuz I can barely get next posts with directions in before there's a formatting frenzy

Wait, so after reading through some of this stuff today I think I may be a bit confused. So is my 3rd ext4 partition that I made in adb that was supposed to be used for swap with the SSM not being used at all?

if you have a /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
and it is formatted to EXT
and You are set to SSM

then it is used.

If you do not have a /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
or it is not formatted as EXT
or You are not set to SSM

it is not used

If you have a /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 and it is formatted to anything other than linux swap, it's not used

Case in point, if you are set to SSM, and you have SD-ext (mmcblk0p2) formatted as EXT, then /data/app is on the sdcard
if you have mmcblk0p3 formatted as EXT, it will be used as /data/dalvik-cache
if mmcblk0p3 is swap, you can use it for swap, but not for dalvik-cache

you want SSM right? you create a swap partition in cwm but then format it to move dalvik there. same result as adb method.except in cwm you limited to available partition sizes. adb can make them any size you want.

cwm method for folks with no computer. or lazy.or scared of terminal. Max size for swap partition is more than I need for my setup. if it too small for you then use adb but I use less than 100 mb in dalvik and I have LOTS of apps installed. a couple system apps I integrated into system folder using titanium but that maybe 7mb total

Ok just saw all this recent talk about this and thought something may have changed. Been running SSM with original ADB instructions for quite a while now.

I have /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 mounted on /data/app and /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 mounted on /data/dalvik-cache. I don't have a /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 at all.

OK erased and formattted everything and I have no partitions right now. I have a 16gb card (well 14.83 cause they lie lol)

So Whats good for the partitions? Two of them at 1gb each? Both at 512 swap? or one at 0swap and the other at 512swap?

EDIT: I will do both with CWM

mine are 2 , 2 and 512 but not running swap, i don't have any lag doing anything so what would swap do for me??

um hold on. im in CWM right now. It only has

0M
32M
64M
128M
256M

So I want to do two partitions at 2gb each. What do i pick from above? If there is no 512 should I just use the 256 for both of them??

Thnaks

That is the size in mb... 256mb is the biggest you can make for the swap using cwm (which you will then convert to ext4 and use for your dalvik) (1024=1gb)

that is wierd and come to think of it i did mine through adb. if you want instructions let me know

like lord said swap will be small

what you want for apps? 1gb?

choose 1024 for partition and then make swap 256

boot back up and get ctmod plus sd2ext zip back on your freshly partitioned card somehow.
reboot recovery
backup current ROM just in case
wipe data/factory reset
flash ctmod
don't boot yet
flash sd2ext zip
boot and let it settle for a min.
save SSM in kouma
reboot recovery-advanced-wipe dalvik
boot
install new koumamod
reboot recovery
flash SSM formatter zip
boot
click save on SSM again
reboot
don't restore any cwm backups or use titanium. fresh installs from market. use titanium to integrate updates into ROM (like market) to save space if you want even though app folder huge now. if integrated then apps like market and koumamod won't be screwy if card ever isn't mounted on boot for some reason. I use link2sd to integrate superuser since titanium can't then uninstall link2sd. don't remember if ctmod come with latest superuser cuz I replace with supersu. if it updated from market so not fully in system/app your su might be broken idk

edit: swap Max in cwm is 256 so make 1024 or w/e you need for apps and swap 256. they don't HAVE to be same size. with many apps I use less than half of that 256

I didn't notice any change in lag either way for me with swap really.
What I did notice was I could work with larger files. Mostly web stuff, Like web pages with lots of images, or flash games that would cause my browser to close on it's own before (no force close message) would now run, though somewhat sluggish :D
