not sure why you'd need 2gb for both.... especially dalvik. you really think your gonna have 2gb worth of apps? I've got more than I need plus 100mb swapfile in data/app and I got plenty room still.

I got 100 data apps and have room to install angry birds rio 30 times.

and still have space

without removing my 100mb swapfile
my app partition is 961mb.
2048 is mind boggling number and just showing off to folks with only 2gb cards. if anybody gets close to filling that with apps even with a 512 swapfile in there please send screen shot of "df" in terminal and shut me up lol

OK it didnt work. I did one partition and rebooted. (seen 1gb less on my SD card) Went back to CWM and did it again and booted. It didnt change the size of the SD card the second time?? So it made the first 1gb partition and didnt do it the second time

That's not how it works bro.
You do it all in one shot

Make 1024 ext, 256 swap.
Those will be your partitions.

[(vfat)(ext)(swap)]
Then you need to format the swap to ext.
Then you have
[<VFAT><EXT><EXT>]
THEN your sdcard.is ssm ready...
Then set up koumamod etc...

you make both at same time....

reboot recovery
advanced
partition sd
1024
then ask swap size
DO NOT PUT ZERO
put 256

I didn't notice any change in lag either way for me with swap really.
What I did notice was I could work with larger files. Mostly web stuff, Like web pages with lots of images, or flash games that would cause my browser to close on it's own before (no force close message) would now run, though somewhat sluggish :D

really though??? mine i can use internet and look up stuff with lots of images and mine goes fast and no foreclose for anything just the lag of the data speed though which everyone will have except for if using wifi. but man i have no problems whatsoever without swap. have been wanting to do it but if works great without, why then?????

Thats exactly what I did

"reboot recovery
advanced
partition sd
1024
then ask swap size
DO NOT PUT ZERO
put 256"

But i did it twice :p:D:o:rolleyes:

So if I do that once then I really did just create 2 partitions seperate of the main card?

If so whats next chief :D

Thanks guys!!

keep that and use to wipe dalvik for now on. don't click wipe dalvik in cwm

there a sd2ext zip you should flash only when you set up too. not mandatory if you use that attachment but I like seeing it say everything formatted to ext4

I have (uh had that on my SD this morning lol)
So do that next?

After that do I use the format ext zip thats floating arouind here?

Doing it again undoes whatever you did the first time.
It's a good way to unpartition an sdcard, just pick 0 for everything in CWM.
I don't know why people spend so much time looking for a PC app and adapters when the tools are already right there

Ive always used "0" in CWM for ever. Now today Im hearing to use something else, Now your saying not to use something else

i know and thanks, it used to say that and i changed it to this. i should change it to read (delvik wipe/swap formatter to ext)

I have an 8gb card and have been giving 2gb to swap and 2gb to ext since I partitioned my card. I could use the extra space if what I've been using isn't going to be used. Is 256MB plenty for the swap and 1gb plenty for ext then?

yes you can go 1gb then 1 gb and then swap256 and use as swap or convert to ext4 for ssm. and you must be running data huh????

he saying to undo partitions and have every thing on one partition like when card brand new. never thought to do that way.
2+2
and
3+1 always equal same thing tho. just different equations
(if that's confusing forget it don't have to do with partitioning just observation)

when you make partitions use whatever you want for ext partition and 256 for swap.
to undo partitions choose 0 for both

it is for me. I use less than half of the 1gb and that with 100mb swapfile in there and healthy number of apps

use less than 100mb in dalvik. comfortable growth room for me

if you have computer and can do with adb do it that way. if you want simpler but more restrictive (as in only few size options) or no computer access do in cwm.

keep in mind partitioning wipes sd. so keep that in mind before formatting phone and then partitioning so you not stuck at boot logo cuz you got no system anymore and no computer to add files to sd.

I got computer and I'm tactical in terminal but I did in cwm cuz it easy and would fine for how I set up. (plus I didn't read directions I guess cuz I thought every body did it my way till recently)
this not perfect for every one so if sizes no good get ur @ss to library and hope you can get adb on their computers lol

Nope, just running ssm, card isn't fast enough to run data. I convert swap to ext4. Does that make a difference in what sizes I should be using?

no but you need 3 partitions for ssm and the swap one can and will be small and then convert to ext 4 by flashing this View attachment 32634 i will rename to (delvik wipe/swap to ext 4 formatter)

also 1g for fat and ext is fine

nope, I'm saying use whatever you want. that's what all the SSM and swap stuff is for, so that you can use something other than 0. But you don't have to if you don't want to. So, 0 is still ok to pick

Yeah I use the SD2EXT.zip that Kouma posted already. I have 3 partitions, SWAP is set to 256MB, EXT is 1024MB and the rest is my FAT partition. I've always done my swap and ext partitions larger than that though because of the "suggestions" that Kouma has just below the SSM instructions in the OP.

you should be fine with that unless trying to get 100's of apps.

when loading apps use advanced restore and sd-ext from an old restore or just use market to reload apps. don't use titanium unless is like a last resort.
