And this is coming

LG G3 Prime Gets Certified By Bluetooth, Release Date Approaching?

And my Hutch is that tmobiles exclusive has something to do with this version somehow. Something tells me. I'll wait a bit longer.

Do NOT doubt the Best Buy dude! ;) I already ruffled his feathers....

Just another week or so to know about the other carriers. After hearing feedback from folks I have known for a while reporting display throttling and not too good battery life with heavier use, I might not even bother buying to test two weeks- even IF 3/32.

Sticking with my guns that this device is likely a better fit for light to medium users and a bad fit for heavy users. The hardware is what it is. In FACT, I am more likely to get a Note 3 than a Note 4 or Prime device.... Why I ask myself in mental third party?

The 28nm chips are not the best fit for Qhd, so there would need to be compromises for even the 805 since also 28nm. Higher clock and bandwidth have to be paid for somehow.

The Note 3 has the same 28nm tech, display looks great and no navigation bar taking up space or having to rely on apps working with immersive mode to hide it. Most importantly the 28nm silicon is pushing 1080p, which is much less burden.

That would cover until the 20nm chippies hit next year to actually efficiently keep up with the evil spec progression of Qhd.

Or I could be apathetic and just stick with my S4 :smokingsomb:

Them you'll be satisfied with this...

If the G3 has improved on GPS performance over the G2 and the new 1 watt speaker is even pretty close to the M8 volume wise, I may just bite. I have had a long list of phones, past and previous models
I dunno, maybe just time for a new hobby. Saltwater tank setup anyone ? ;)
Or maybe I could see if Steven would give me some voice lessons.. :D.
I DON'T teach hobbyists any longer only professionals!!!!

(Steven turns around in a flourish and storms off in an artistic tantrum.)

It is 2/16. No,it is 2/32, Tmo "exclusive". No, it is 2/16, even phandroid says so.

LOL.

So it is 3/32 for under $600.

Go Tmo! :D

And now we wait to see what all the other carriers will carry and when and at what price .... I'm really hoping they match TM and don't let us down, but I know that is somewhat wishful thinking from what we have heard so far..

Hmmm...
Even though I am a hobbyist, I can pay like a professional ! :D:D:D

I even watch every episode of American Idol. That must count for something. :) :D

Since this thread is a Lounge of sorts,I thought it would be as good a place as any (w/people from all walks & devices/carriers/experiences) to ask the following:

I'm on T-MOBILE,recently bought an AT&T LG OPTIMUS G PRO (Stock/unrooted/SIM Unlocked):

LG Optimus G Pro Smartphone with 5.5" | LG USA

https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/lg/optimus-g-pro-indigo.html#fbid=ZesJZoMLfwI

I SIM Unlocked it,no problem,LTE & all on T-MOBILE.:)

However, there is an update available (from 4.1.2 TO 4.4.2):

https://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB420581&cv=820#fbid=jRC5oDyiF-T

Since I'm using T-MOBILE,I'm not having any success in getting the update pushed to my phone from AT&T.
Tried multiple resets/using an inactive AT&T SIM Card, the old GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK trick, nada.

AFAIK,this is the only method of getting the update,& AT&T service (active AT&T SIM Card) is required. The update is not available direct from LG.

I'm not averse to buying a month's service from AT&T,but,If anyone here has a method to get the update otherwise, plase be so kind as to share w/us all.

THX! :)

Saltwater tank will be way more expensive and time-consuming hobby.
Been there, done that.

Now, about Steven...:D

Did you check xda?

Yeppers,I believe I saw one post from someone who stated that they got the update w/o AT&T service via OTA,after numerous attempts w/resetting.

What makes it time consuming is that you are only permitted to check once every 24 hrs & the only way around that is a factory reset.
Wash,rinse,repeat,same result.....
One of the initial attempts netted a Pop-UP stating the device isn't registered, followed by the Your device is up-to-date,check again in 24hrs.
So,I'm probably faced w/buying a months service to enable AT&T to acknowledge the phone exists & push the update.
NVM that the phone is free & clear, clean IMEI.
In a sense,I'm gonna have to pay for the update.
THX AT&T,You're Awesome....

I wouldn't pay them, there must be ways around, although I can't give you them.

T shux :D

I could root/ROM,but,at least for now,I want to stay stock-unrooted,as I have multiple intereted potential buyers, should I decide to sell it.
I'll keep it stock until I get the G3 & then decide what to do afterwards.

Dunno if you checked, but do they have a stock firmware at XDA that you can flash back too ? They do for the G2, but not sure about the G pro.
I know it's a pia to do, but when I sell my phones that is usually the easiest method to get back to stock with the latest firmware.

If its an OTA, you'd like to think that somebody out there snagged the link for manual download. Its just a matter of finding it if its out there at all.

Hah! This reminds me of a discussion with a former work colleague and friend who recently left his high position job to be a college business professor. We joked how some profs were cool and good teachers before tenure, but some became complete d-bags once they were made "untouchable". Funny how the true person comes out in certain conditions ;)

Back on topic (was there one?)

The carriers are running out of runway, so next week they need to say somethin'.

Okay, I had convinced myself that for my primary device, I wouldn't be upgrading this year...but, LG really has me paying attention:

No VU anymore, Note-like LG G stylus in making. Is this the LG G3 Stylus spotted earlier? - daily.bhaskar.com

LG G3 Stylus D693 with qHD display Spotted in an UA profile

If all the talk is correct and the Vu will be discontinued with the G3 Stylus taking it's place, I'm really intrigued. My 1st question would be, how does it compare to the S-pen and 2nd question would be, what size screen did they fit into the same size chassis as the Note 3. If the G3 Stylus somehow squeezes a 6 inch screen into the same or smaller form factor as the Note 3, w/ a connected stylus, I'm sold. I wouldn't even need to see the phone, as the specs would have to at least match the specs rumored on the Note 4.

Hmm, interesting. But that link page says it's got qHD (960 x 540) not QHD display. And just 3G HSPA connectivity. That's too far from being flagship device if true.

It's an OTA,but,can you manually d/l & install something like this w/o rooting/custom recovery/etc?

After trying to explain to at least 20 different blog writers that qHD is not QHD and that WQHD really is the same thing as QHD, I've given up.

I know that one is qHD, but I'm just whining! :p

We'll see. That would be a Fail, if LG is trying to get a competitor to the Note series into the market. If they did that, they might as well have kept the Vu form factor.

I don't know for sure, depends on the situation. Check stock recovery options and see if there's an adb sideload or update type of option.

Does ATT have a software update utility you could potentially use from your PC?

Anybody had success with LG Mobile Support tool on your device for the purpose of manual updates?

edit: check this. looks like stock KK for the e980:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438088

Not sure if that's going to be a kdz or not. Downloading now to check.

edit 2: it's the tot. Good, now just need to find the dll.

edit3: and boom, here's the dll... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272177

So you should be able to use the new KK tot from the first link along with the dll from the older link. Flash via LG Flash tools and profit.
