You are Awesome! I was just about to post, to see if anybody in the East Coast was able to get the gold at Best Buy. Looks like I'm gonna be going there at lunch.

btw, what city are you in?
Chicago.

Got a 64gb microcard with the 50 gift card.

Best phone ever! Battery is amazing, screen is flawless, makes old 1080 screens look like black and white. ;-)

That sounds kind of like what I am doing. I talked through it with a VZW person. I ordered a G3 against my wife's line, using "her" upgrade, and took a 2 year extension on her contract. When the phone arrives, I will actually activate it against my line (and I'll return my current phone to get a $21 credit).

Nice! Not sure you need it, but you know that it's possible to purchase the 128gb microSD at the store (but they have to ship it still...either to your home or for you to pick up).

For anybody that wants to do it. I purchased both of my 128gb microSD's for my Note 8 and Note 3, in a Best Buy store. This allowed me to price match Amazon (which was 119 at the time). Amazon currently has the 128gb microSD on sale for 115.10. Here's the link, for those that want to do that:

Phandroid also believes that the phone advertisement is somehow an anomaly and that LG has never said a word about that phone.

If it doesn't happen in the Western world, and if the whole gang of blogosphere criminals don't agree, then it never happened.

Reality is ever so much more convenient when you put your head into the nice, friendly, comforting sand.

They could be right.

If other carriers don't want that model, it won't go beyond the Korean carriers that do.

If the push is to Qhd, pre 20nm, the best bet is to push the 805 when economically feasible. People can laugh, but the iPhone 6 is going to be a performance beast.

The price positioning of the the 3/32 seems almost like a softening of the supply chain (manufacturing through to consumer) to prepare for the 805 model. It also enabled LG to start making money NOW for a mass production product, rather than wait for the 805 to do the same thing. Qhd has to be an expensive effort, so the G3 allows revenue to flow rather than trickle until the 805.

I think the G3 is a product bridge until the main event later this year. G3 Prime, Mega Chunga, whatever. Seems an 805 model this year to match up with Qhd as standard is a no brainer.

Case in point: The Note 4 has the 805 and Qhd and is being positioned to battle the larger iPhone 6 model.

Added tangent:

BTW, the apparent average space hit with ART is 25%, but depends on the type of apps. That is a LOT of storage to lose, especially for 16GB models with 10GB free. I expect a LOT of teeth gnashing when 16GB device folks update to L, unless they can stay with Dalvik as an option. Probably not.

I thought the Note 4 was most likely coming with Exynos (On-Die LTE).

Edit - Never mind, seems NA currently predicted to get QC chip, but how does LTE on 805 work? Separate chip?

The 805 is a more modular design for radios, rather than the previous more telephony centric SoCs like the S600, S800 and 801. This could be due to the more robust GPU needing breathing room, but that is speculative drivel on my part. Maybe it is a design evolution we will also see with the 810.

You see? This kind of bad news is why I hate phandroid, sometimes. It makes me so very, very sad. :( <------- see? (kill the messenger!)

I wouldn't put any faith in that. I just posted it to spur conversation in this, the speculation thread. ;)

I've made a decision. I'm not waiting for a prime, if one is to make it to the US. I get my jollies on being involved with the early efforts of root/unlock and there is some significant interest from some capable players going on as we speak.

I just need to decide whether I'm in or out and the means I would use to go about it since the contract option is not available for me. This next week will be one of decisions.

First impressions, such that they are. Screen is fine in sunlight. The contrast is a little bad, but potentially because I'm so focused on it. Nothing you would notice in a vacuum.

can't speak to the battery, obviously, but I just spent an hour with the screen on downloading all of my apps, and the phone didn't get overly hot. Not really hot at all. Just a bit near the top of the phone, near the camera lens, but not nearly as hot as my other phones. This was in the air conditioned store, fwiw.

In limited typing, I like SwiftKey better, but I want to give it a shot.

The customizable options are crazy, and I'm finding a lot of them useful.

I didn't notice any lag, but I'm switching to ART as we speak. Going on 10 minutes and about a third finished. On the charger and still not hot.

Please interrupt our programming with your updates. :p

You asked for it!

I just switched all animations to .5 from 1 and it flies like sense 6. Very occasional, very slight stutter when loading the weather widget, but this thing is very smooth. 2 calls, earpiece speaker is plenty loud, speakerphone is very loud. Not the boomsound quality, but as good as any other I've had.

More to come.

Gold is growing on me, btw

Design files for all of the 8xx include part numbers with and without the world modem (since the Snapdragon S4, a programmable mode world modem was included - this handled LTE, GSM, GPS WIFI, all of it).

Separation of the modem into a another part is largely for economic reasons.

The demand for that far outstripped supply (you may recall the news) and everyone went into a panic.

New production resources were mobilized just to handle that demand and its growth hadn't stopped.

So, Integrated modem or not does certainly have a technical side to it, but this is really about distributing manufacturing to keep up with demand.

Just had the absolute best experience upgrading through Best Buy! I called into Best Buy (near my work), just to see if they had the Gold G3 in stock. I was on hold for about 30 minutes and finally got routed to a person. I come to find out that the number I got routed to was a back-up support line for Best Buy, when stores get flooded with calls.

Instead of needing to wait at the Best Buy, for upgrading to the G3, the backup support team was able to complete my entire order for store pickup at that same Best Buy store I was planning on going to. Only thing is, the 2 gift card promotions that I was supposed to get, could not be applied to the order. No problem though. All in all, with the certificate I had waiting to be used, $102.99 (including tax...which happened to end up being more than the subsidized price, but still need to pay the $36 Sprint upgrade fee). This was so convenient. I can go into the Best Buy West Hollywood store and pick up my order at lunch!

Just making a quick post as I have been really torn between the G3 and S5. Ended up getting the S5 few weeks ago. However, Im still under my grace period.

I posted my toe to toe comparison with the G3 in another thread on this site as I ran into the Lg rep at the Sprint store yesterday and we compared phones. Sprint is my carrier and yes it still having issues. Gluten for punishment I guess. Lol.

My biggest fear is that the G3 is New. Not tested thoroughly yet here in the States by very many users unlike the S5 which has been out a few months now and for the most part is a very solid performer. The display is very bright and easy to see in the sun, decent camera, although low light without the flash can be an issue. I have experienced very little to no lag with animation set at 1. RAM use at 1.5 usually with several apps open and running. 1.20 without extra apps. Touchwiz much better and smoother. I did try Nova Launcher for awhile but found the new Touchwiz just as good IMO.

My biggest complaint about the S5 is the inconsistent earpiece hearing experience. Even after several adjustments it's just not loud and clear enough for my taste.

I only wish I could have both phone for a few months to really see which one ends up my favorite. overall Im very happy with my S5 but wonder if Im missing out on anything more special with the G3. Maybe I should switch to Verison or T mobil with a free 30 day love it or leave it trial. lol.

Good day everyone!

I just went by a local Sprint store at lunch to try out their G3 demo.

I only spent about 5 to 10 minutes with it. I had already made my mind up that I would not purchase this device and wait until the devices come out with the 805 chip. I currently use a Samsung Galaxy S3 so anything is going to be an improvement. My S3 still performs admirably.

My oh my does this device look and feel incredible! My only hesitation in purchasing it is all the complaints about lag or stutter or whatever. I did notice a couple hiccups when switching from the main screen to the app drawer. It is very possible that I may not have noticed those if I had not read plenty about it.

My grubby fingers really want me to purchase this but my mind is telling me to wait based on negative opinions and possibly getting frustrated with the lag.

I tried looking at the HTC One M8 and it feels like a nice device that was screwed up aesthetically by have that large black bar at the bottom.

Oh and btw...I would normally never consider a gold colored device until I saw this one. It looked excellent. Very classy.

35 minutes, till I head to Best Buy and just pick up my order and get back to work! The G3 deal at Best Buy is a steal. I'm very happy that I didn't have to come too much out of pocket. Saves me $ on the G Watch that will be apparently shipped next week.

I'm on vzw. My line is unlimited. My wife's is 2gb. We share 500 min talk time. I would like to add a line for g3 (thinking only 30 bucks) but the 2 gb would not be shared with wife on our plan so i onlywould have 2 gb. Also, since we're not share everything hotspot would not be free. What's the cheapest way to add a line fornthe -g3 2 yr contract so I can keep my note 3 and have g3 but I want hotspot free on the g3 without stealing it. (i could donthat on my note 3 since Im rooted but don't want to chance it)

I called vzw and the cheapest way they came up with was to separate my phone from mybwifes, put new and wifes phone on share everything, and itnwas going to cost me more than 100 bucks a month more than i pay now! NG

Unless the size is an issue, the Note 3 seems a better device overall- unless you are a light user. The Note 3's S800 is on par with 1080p, so better battery life and performance for heavier use compared to the G3 trying to manage Qhd. Also has 3GB of ram and 32GB internal like the G3.

That said, the new device bug is infectious, so I understand :)

If you read the comments section, it explains why LG has no worry releasing the G3 with an 801. The people in the thread generally do not get it and they are apparent tech web dwellers. Silly comments like "The S5 Prime has no better performance than the S5"..... Duh! That is the point- the 805 gets performance back on par for Qhd where the G3 does not.

Ignorance is bliss to both manufacturers and carriers. As long as the device has no major bugs or defects, all is good and more power to them for it
If this is WRONG, I don't want to be RIGHT!!

I'm loving it, but I've loved every new device I've ever owned. I even like driving rental cars that are cheaper than mine just because they're new and different.

That said, this thing is pretty awesome. The only concern I could see someone having is battery life, and with a replaceable battery, that just isn't even on my radar.

If you're on the fence, I strongly recommend you go and at least play with it.

The ONLY major bummer is that I lost all of my progress I made on Injustice, and I don't know that I have the stomach to start all over again. Probably best for my job and marriage anyway.

Cheers y'all!!! Feel free to fire any questions my way, I'll try to answer. I can't bear the thought of abandoning this thread. We may all have to meet in some central city someday to reminisce.....something like, oh i don't know, Chicago.

Went to Verizon Store and told them how I want to upgrade the other line to the G3 but put my SIM in it when I receive it and switch my upgrade to that line. The gentleman said you sure can but when that other upgrade gets used you lose unlimited. Sneaky S.O.Bs.
