LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

Just hope the microSD isn't only the developer edition and extends to all carrier variants.

Yeah, I've been shaky on the sdcard for awhile now but still somewhat optimistic.

Given a few days to ponder, I'm easing up on the 805 issue slightly. Appreciate the comments of perspective on that from several folks. Some great points made on the last few pages of posts here.

I've been getting ready for a graduation party all day so catching up on the thread with a cold beverage has been like a vacation. Cheers to all involved. :)

The pizza was a big hit, rave reviews all around. Would have loved a small side of buffalo wings but not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

FINE!

After much rumination I have decided to wait till 2015 to buy a new phone.
As a matter of principle, said phone must have a 64-bit SoC since they will be commercially available.

My preference would be for that phone to be the G4 because I so very much love the rear controls.

I'd be happy to change my mind if the G3 is miraculously released with the 805, Odin, or Mediatek 6595. Or if the M8 Prime is released next month (which it won't, and I refuse to buy an 805 phone in late summer/early autumn when I planned on having one next month).

Sigh.
This is a purchase of want, not need, therefore I will not compromise.

My exact thoughts also. I am totally satisfied with my G2 and like it so much more than my Iphone 5S. It is a possibility that LG might skip the 805 and go to the 810 in early 2015. That would be interesting.[/QUOTE]

It will depend on which big.LITTLE model they are using.
Exynos 5422 in S5 can run all 8 cores at a time.

True and fair enough. Samsung has a generation of experience. (No excuse, I was lazy when I used them as an example.)

However, what little I've seen suggests that LG's first generation effort matches Samsung's first -

Either way, I'll be very surprised if it's an Odin and not a Snapdragon. And if it is an Odin, I'll probably be as interested in the other cores as the CPUs, if not more so.

I just grind my back molars when I hear octa-core. Dual quads are also very exciting, call it like it is, don't play name games. :p

If the leaked back photos are for the US, etc. version, the removable battery allows for a couple of things: First, if you keep your phone for an extended period, you won't have to worry about the battery going bad. Secondly, there are after market battery designs that will add to its versatility. When I had my Galaxy S4, I added an Anker 5200mAh battery that came with a backplate to cover the added bulk. It was handy to have when I was on an all night flight to another country, or I was going to have a totally full day in a different city and might not have quick access to charging. Also didn't have to carry a spare.

Also, after reading about the 801 and the integrated modem, vs the 805, I am also warming up to the G3. I'll wait a little, but will probably go and get one after USER reviews come in, not the tech reviewers.

The German branch of LG's sprawling public relations empire, has all but confirmed a metal back cover for the LG G3. In their press release about the new QuickCircle case for the G3, the agency wrote literally that "the Quick Circle Case, which replaces the metallic back cover, supports wireless charging using the Qi-interface standards..."

From gsmarena.com this time:

Here are the trio of LG G3 promo videos for your viewing pleasure.

The video regarding the LG G3 camera is short, but it confirms that the company has armed the flagship 13MP snapper with a laser auto-focus system. It is designed to help the G3 make better shots at night and focus faster.

So latest leaks confirm removable back cover (and therefore removable battery) and SD card slot. Good things, all good things :)

Although I'll be a little disappointed if it's true you need the quick circle case to use wireless charging, unless they also make it durable enough to withstand a drop. I prefer my Seidio cases.

Also still missing one thing, any sign of a Verizon version... No FCC, no leaks with a VZW logo. :(

So which step is that, bargaining or acceptance? ;)

This pretty much echos my thoughts. Hope the wireless charging is a standard feature even without the QuickCircle case, and I am a bit worried about the lack of news on a Verizon variant so far. It will be offered but hopefully there isn't a big delay in its release.

Here is an interesting article from CNET on the benefits of the Snapdragon 805.

6 cool things your next Snapdragon 805 phone or tablet could do - CNET

Personally, being the average consumer (maybe a bit more tech savvy than average?), if the g3 has the 801, I won't be buying it right off. I'll watch to see what it does. With all due respect to the more savvy techie types, I like the benefits of paying for a phone that is on the bleeding edge, rather than having a phone that is going to make me sorry I didn't wait.

Heck, why don't I wait for the 64-bit processing system? As a consumer, my wallet is the judge and jury and the control over how I manage it, is mine.

Speaking on behalf of the average and uneducated consumer, tech specs and promises of better performance do matter to me greatly, even if I don't understand the "why's" or the "trade-offs".

Attitude wise, I will tell you that the unconfirmed news of the phone having an 801 just took the wind out of my sails and put me back into the wait-and-watch-for-the-next-big-thing mode.

Sure, I'll give this phone a look-see when it comes out and I know it'll be a great one. Heck, I just bought my family (3 other lines) Galaxy S5's. THAT is a great phone too. It surely beats the Gnex for sure. Anything would be an upgrade!

When I buy a phone, it needs the "Wow" factor. That's why I bought the Droid Incredible and that's why I bought the Gnex. In its day, the Gnex had mucho "wow" factor, right brother Early? Remember? Heh. How can we forget? Good times.

My next phone will have to be exceptional, in every way, including the processor. I'm an Smartphone hobbyist, so much so that I was very much involved in leaking info on the Gnex to Android Forums and the rest of the world. I guess that qualifies me to have my opinions and tastes, huh? :)

In short, I've moved away from "must-have" to 'look-see" on this device. That's what my gut says. I generally go with my gut.

A man after my own heart.

I'm kinda feeling this way too. As the disapointment of the 801 is fading, I am coming to accept the 801. I am still worried about performance, but am not writing this phone off. I really wanted to love this phone. This was going to be my dream phone (almost). But, if all I'm left with is one of the best phones in the market, I guess I can accept that ;) :tee:

Save the day how?

The Power VR 6?

Save the day in regards to me buying the phone.

Odin, Mediatek 6595, 805 or an equivalency of the aforementioned and I'll be a happy camper.

It's a matter of principle for me, sensible or not.
The last post from Steven58 mirrors my sentiments.

Yeah. I understood all of that already.

I thought that was about performance for you.

My question is, what is it about the Odin that floats your boat?

It's a big-little dual quad, A15s and A9s, nothing new there.

So, is it the Power VR 6 it's rumored to have?

Or - you just don't want a Snapdragon?

I noticed blogs calling it a big winner based on a benchmark where it came in last, only ran to 1 GHz, and drove a 1080p display. It's like they thought that the low score won on a high score benchmark - AnTuTu. Which is pretty worthless anyway.

So I thought, ok, maybe you're interested in the GPU.

Is that it?

Just curious. :) No big deal.
