Some interesting results from gsmarena.com's battery testing, especially when put beside the G2:

LG G3 review: Dream catcher - GSMArena.com

LG G2 review: Beautiful monster - GSMArena.com
Ugh. Bad contrast. Not great in sunlight. Bad benchmarks. Bad battery when under display stress. This just went from 99% to 25%. Unless the optimized version is much different, the S5 Prime is still in the running.

Sobs

Like I said, I will order the very second T-mo notifies me of the availability. It is "almost" my dream phone.

Replace onscreen buttons w/capacitive, pretty please.

With all said and done, I still highly doubt that the G3 video 1080/60p will be the same quality as my x920. No phone lenses can compete w/Leica.

I will post blind test when I get it.

In other news:

Received Sandisk microSDXC 128GB from B&H.

Guess what, guys: it reports 30MB available. That's it.

I've tried it on all my devices and all my W8 programs, including MiniTool.

It goes right back to B&H, I am not going to waste my time w/Sandisk TS.

And why the hell did I buy it?

I can get 64GB for $30, why did I pay $100 for 128GB?

It wasn't good?

Well, guys, it's been fun but I'm buggin' outta here.

The gsmarena.com review has proven what we were fearing -- the 801 can't push QHD as well as the 800 pushed 1080P, and there are serious battery compromises. The low contrast issue is another unexpected blow. There are lots of very nice things about this phone, but I don't want it badly enough now to spend the money on it. It looks like I'll be trying out the OnePlus One when I can buy one like a dignified human being.

On the SD card - counterfeit SD cards are real, not a mistake and a well-known international scam.

OTOH - I've bought quite a bit of low cost, high quality gear from B&H over the years and the few times I've been screwed, they've stepped up and made it right without smoke and mirrors.

A good vendor. If they had a bad supplier, I'd be surprised if they left you holding the bag. I could be wrong, but I'd be really surprised.

As for early review results - y'all have to trust your own instincts - but nothing being reviewed is final for our market or even post-first-update.

As I said before, I don't trust anything until after that cycle.

Just saying that's what works for me, not saying what you should do. You should do as you think best. ;) :)

what device did you try using in? b and h is a reputable store and has good customer service, so they will likely be willing to send you a good one.

B&H is good, got RMA immediately despite the fact that they were closed for the Jewish holiday.

I do believe they get their stock from Sandisk, not from the chinese counterfeiters.

Yet it happens.

Like I said, B&H is great, nothing but good relations with them. Hell, they are better than Amazon to me, after Amazon started to charge sales tax in Cali.

However, I have decided to request a refund instead of replacement. I can get 2 64GB microSDXC cards for $60, so why should I pay $100 for 128GB?

New technology needs to be polished. Seems like Sandisk has some Quality Control problems. Maybe returns will make them willing to improve their QC practices.

Getting ready for the G3. Picked up a 32 GB Samsung. I have a G2 now and really like my position. There is nothing I dislike about the G2, coming from an Iphone 5S. The G2 has turned me completely away from the Iphone with their small screens. If Verizon comes out with a 3/32, I'm all in. If not, I will just wait for the next iteration of the G3 with an 805. Might be time to review what can be written to a microsd under KitKat. Rooting might become very important to allow full access to the added storage.
