LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

I have a new theory now, due to all the merger rumors, EM.

3/32 for Sprint with both Sprint and T-Mobile radios, including Spark LTE and T-Mobile LTE!...:D Dual CDMA and GSM phone.

I'm awake from my dream now, but that would be worthy of my ditching my Note 3, even if the merger doesn't happen.

My HTC Touch Pro 2 was dual CDMA and GSM..back in 2010..

And by GSM I mean US GSM, not some exotic foreign GSMs it was sold with.

You can get a Nexus 5 that works on T-Mobile and Sprint right now today - but not all the LTE bands? I can't remember.

Yeah, but it was a few fast-flying years ago. Required a lot of hacking.

Sprint released HTC Pro 2 with an idea that it could be used in the GSM world, Europe in particular. Little they knew that after the genie is out of the bottle, it is really hard to put her back there :D

Actually, Early, I wear contacts for presbyopia. Multi-focals. May I keep my 57" htdv?

Steven, you should have your optometrist prescribe your need for 80 inch LED, and bring it to the manufacturer of your current TV to have them upgrade you.

THAT would be spectacular!

Now the ancillary question, WHEN do we think it will be released? I'm hoping July 1, thinking early July. If it's after July 20th, they may lose me. Heading on a vacation (that I really want to have this phone for) and I may just be bitter enough to hold out for the new HTC offering with (hopefully) 805.

I wouldn't be surprised if release is early July, like the UK release, but one other thing I was thinking about is LG's ability to keep up with demand, if the selling trend in Korea will end up translating elsewhere. Maybe a late July release would buy them enough time to make sure there is no shortage of supply. It's just a wild guess though.

As for holding out for HTC's next offering, the prime was already suspended indefinitely, apparently to concentrate on what would likely be a follow up to the HTC Max. That phone was humongous.

I really wish the OEM's paid attention to what Motorola and now LG had done of putting larger screens into manageable physical form factors. Having both the Note 2 and Note 3,they are both at the limit of my comfort level. It's still a little puzzling to me that OEM's have the need to put their logo on the front of the phone. After all, when someone is on a phone call or browsing on their phone, the part that other people see is the back cover.

The perfect phone for me has still yet to appear on the market, but the concept had been leaked, and patent filed... that is the folding Note phone with bendable LED screen that Samsung is working on. That is what I am wanting the most. A combination phone and tablet that is truly portable and won't require tethering or additional data plan, to use.

The Prime would have been the Max follow up.

It's not about phablet size - it's about the mid-term update with some changes from the headliner.

The Plus may be the follow up now.

I think T-Mo will release their version on July 1st.

But I'll be out of the country, so it doesn't really matter too much for me.

My nice F6 will be traveling with me. After having my Nexus 4 stolen in Barcelona last year, I don't take expensive phones with me anymore.

I remember. I ended up passing on the Touch Pro 2 because I thought it was "too big"...man, how time changes things...LOL. I stuck it out with the original Touch Pro, until I made the leap to Android w/ the EVO. And do you remember what radios the Touch Pro had though? Could it connect to all the 3G channels on ATT?

There are still things on Windows Mobile (not this new crud that Microsoft has) that I preferred to any OS. It's never talked about, but I wonder how many people remember how darn good the voice recognition was on Windows Mobile. I remember, when I would dictate "Navigate to 'such and such location'", and "Call 'so and so'", it was so accurate, but then it also identified so much better via A2DP than Siri or Google Now or S Voice.

That's the crazy thing. That's one of the reasons I got the Photon. It was considered a world phone, but required a few things to get it unlocked, to be able to use it on ATT and T-Mobile...but of course, it was one of the last Wimax devices and no LTE radios. I do remember a few people successfully porting over to ATT, but didn't have the proper radios to get strong 3g data connection.

...After having my Nexus 4 stolen in Barcelona last year, I don't take expensive phones with me anymore.

I thought about that as well. I purchased a used Photon, just to keep as a backup phone, to use when/if I travel out of the country. When I bought the Note 3, I figured I'd be able to keep that as a backup phone and use for travelling, but reading about your experience getting your N4 stolen, I think the Photon will remain my backup phone going forward. Sorry to hear that it got stolen.

What happened to the end of June? I thought that was the original rumors regarding US release. Did I miss something?

Oh, and Early, did I say iCertified meant an improved vision over their current one? ;)

After all, this is the same Apple that said their new maps app was better because "Apple". Bridge into the ocean anyone?

Oh well.. thought I'd try.

For a gamer, the Note 3 32Gb is probably a better option. Most the other stuff is where it would not be a better option. My weight for gaming is not high enough though to sway me.

A biggie is signal reception. S4 is average if I am generous about it. I do luv the button instead of soft bars taking up space. Of course VZW and Samsung lock the devices down now, so no longer an option for me due to external card writes.

Thanks for clarifying, EM. I remember the days when I couldn't wait to get my next HTC phone. I blame the EVO 3D as my fallout from HTC. If you recall, I wasn't a big fan of 3D. Ever since then, I've been waiting for HTC to really bring me back, but none of the offerings have been enough for me to feel that way. While, at the same time, their build quality is still top notch.

T'was time when small phones were considered cool. :)
Frankly, I don't remember. I don't even think TP2 was 3G-capable, EVDO at best. It's all buried somewhere in the xda archives.

HTC TP2 was really great device though, and WM was quite decent platform. But what did you expect from this idiot Ballmer?

Same here.
Was excited to put an italian sim into my TP2 and called home immediately, way cheaper than before.

Ah, I still remember the look of that amsterdam security girl when she said: "don't forget to put your phone into the basket", and I proudly answered: "I don't have any phones". :D

Yeah, Microsoft has even released recent articles (while talking about Windows Phone) and mentioned how they really messed up and didn't pay much attention to Windows Mobile because they didn't think the mobile industry would advance to where it is now. Seriously, they had Apple beaten to the punch. All they needed to do was make refinements and have developers start creating apps and software to offer through a centralized store. Had they done that, from the very beginning, I think they could've been much more relevant and taken some of the thunder away from Apple. That's actually the part that I loved about Android so much. I didn't have to spend hours and hours to edit code, just to do simple customizations. It was just a matter of downloading an app that would take care of all the coding...but, if I wanted to start spending more time on intricate customizations again, I knew rooting would get me the same capabilities I had during the Windows Mobile days.

Check out the size comparison

I just want to know if the G3 will make me a babe magnet :) I am married, so want to make sure my wife does not get jealous :) ..........

Do people really think that way? Yes they do, but not me...... No, really.

Let me tell you about the time my wife and I accidentally swapped luggage in Tokyo and I was randomly tagged for a luggage search - she had already gone ahead.

I have long hair. My wife bought new lingerie to surprise me.

The advanced security staff were Japanese gals.

They didn't speak English.

They did start holding her nightgowns up to me to verify the fit. We're the same height.

I thought my biggest security problem would be my phone.

Babe magnet?

Be careful what you don't wish for!
