Root *MORE* Reliable root for leakers has been found

Did a nand backup, tried to 'install from zip' the Evil Eris zip and it told me the file was corrupt. Not sure if that's a bad download or because I moved it via Windows (*I* wouldn't think the method of transport would make a difference..)
So I get to mess with how to actually load a new rom, but at least I'm rooted. :)

Defnitely sounds like a bad download. Transfering through windows will not corrupt the file.

(sigh) I'm beginning to feel like the bastard stepchild. :)
Apparently I have four bad zip files (yeah, seems unlikely to me too). Trying to load a rom I first wipe/factory reset. Then 'load zip file', select the Zip and each one fails validation. Any of your smart folks have ideas about that?
On the positive side, the restore function is working just fine (whew!)

You wouldn't happen to be unzipping the files before loading them on your phone would you? It's either that or a bad download site is all I can think of.

I'm not the kind of guy to unzip a file... :)

I did download all my zips from the same site, perhaps I'll try a different site.

Still no joy here. I downloaded the EvilEris rom from another site and put it on my SD card. Booted into recovery, wipe/factory data, select zip from SD card. Got the error Verification failed, system/lib/libwebcore.20 is corrupt.
Any thoughts?

Edit. BTW I've searched here on on XDA for similar errors - nothing found. Don't know if nobody else is having the problem or if I'm just using the right keywords in my search.

Maybe try a different sd card if you have one.

Maybe try posting that on XDA?

Check / verify the MD5 sums after download and after placing on your /sdcard? (per sage advice from eu1 :D). This way, you should be able to rule-out or rule-in a corrupted file. What site did you get it from?

That's an excellent idea!! Fail on me for not thinking about that.

Have you tried to flash another ROM? Ivan's for example?

Yes. It will overwrite the bootloader, the recovery partition, and OS. So your phone will become completely stock. Now that 1.49 has root, we don't have to be afraid of the RUU anymore.

And you don't need any real user input from the phone itself either. Its all done via the PC. So if you have a hardware problem that severely impairs your ability to use the phone (like the trackball problem) you can go back to stock easily.

ok i've been at this for about 3 hours with no luck. every time i try to push the file i get
/android/tools/adb push EvilEris3.0.zip /sdcard/
cannot stat 'EvilEris3.0.zip': No such file or directory
when the file is in the tools directory.

any ideas what could be going wrong? I'm on a mac by the way if that makes a difference.

I have no idea how the terminal works on a Mac. But if you boot into normal Android, you can just mount the SD card, and then copy the ROM over that way.

Or if you have a microSD to SD card adapter, and a SD card reader, you could copy the ROM directly to the microSD card in the phone, and reinsert the card into the phone after you copy it over.
