Root MUIU - completely shocked!

I laughed hard when I read this, I guess I will also try it out again but I am going to wait for a slightly more stable GB release. I really don't like the iphone look but that can be changed.

EDIT: Does anyone know any free alternatives to the Sense/LP+ calendar widget?

For calendar i like jorte... imports google calendar, has national holidays, and can create phone and google events, import-export...

Widget is nice, can be resized and color coordinated

Thanks for the Jorte recommendation, looks pretty good.

MIUI gets updated nearly every week on Fri. I think they skipped a couple of weeks when they moved to GB. I've also switched back to a Sense rom until it becomes more stable.

This MUIU sounds pretty cool I think I'd like to give it a shot, where can I find a thread so I can flash it, Im kind of new only flashed Koni's ESIII so far but this sounds pretty cool.

The gb version isnt what we call "stable" yet but it will work, its aosp so it will take a little work to get it going. MIUI based on 2.2 is stable though but also aosp. Its over on xda, also im sure there is a thread here pointing to it on xda...

Download the Honeycomb theme for MIUI. You should be able to find it under the online themes under Theme Manager. It looks clean and less iPhoney. I really like the honeycomb icons. Very Tron-like heh.

Also, the apps that come with MIUI are really polished. Music player is slick and it finds lyrics for your songs. The stock SMS app is very much like handcent; I uninstalled handcent (and PowerAMP) on my MIUI ROM. There's a weather app on the Chinese version that hopefully someday gets ported to the Evo. Here are the pics. Super eye candy.

Oh wait, it's released as of yesterday!

Thanks for the tip Novox, Ill be flashing tonight. Is that theme for the gb or for the froyo version? I think i want the froyo version still due to people bitchin about gb atm.

And apple is the leader? I beg to differ...so does america, given the change in smart phone market share...maybe in tablets but that market is just getting started...

As long as Steve Jobs lives yes. Microsoft has been trying to copy Apple sine 1980's..Need proof? Just read Bill Gates AutoBio when he states in the last chapter " I want the PC to be like a Mac"..... PS, photoshop, excel adobe were all mac products long before pc knew about them...

Being first doesn't make you best, rarely does actually. Also this is evo 4g forum, I'm talking smart phones not pc and laptops. Where does iphone sit now in the smart phone market?

In the end we can debate all day lol. I can't speak much to desk tops and laptops but I'll take a soft bricked evo over an iphone any day :)

I thought the MIUI themes are independent of the Android version... But FWIW, I downloaded the theme on the GB MIUI. I'm talking about the Honeycomb theme. Are you? Or are you talkiing about the weather apk? That might work on either froyo or gb as well, but I personally haven't tried it yet (doing a CM7 evaluation atm).

Ha I don't know anything about miui yet. Good to know the theme is universal, I'll try the weather app on froyo as well.

I flashed this rom a couple of days ago and have had few issues. The launcher was force closing until I downloaded VM heap tool and changed the heap size to 48. Read about this fix in another forum, other than that it's been smooth as silk with exceptional battery life.

Thanks for these tips. I will definitely be looking into the honeycomb theme, and the weather app sounds nice, as of now i have no weather app installed.

And I am loving the music player, though it is having some problems finding my lyrics, but that's not a big deal.

OK so I am asking this question without having done any research...why? because i figure ive earned one freebie :).

I flashed MIUI last night. Prior to my flash I wiped EVERYTHING 3 times, im weird dont ask, doofus, you get it...Anyhow booted fine, looked like a hideous iphone, changed the theme to honeycomb, that i could deal with.

Did have a LOT of built in functionality so I was gonna stick around for a bit but then....bum bum bum...Titanium would not restore a single application. I chose something easy, a downloaded market app that was free and simple, restore, app only...hot restarted me, try again diff app, hot restart...wtf? Is this a known issue or to i need to try and troubleshoot this? I totally wanted to try it too...

Also, I looked everywhere, is it not possible to get the 2.2 version anymore? the thread was closed and the links were broken...

hey hey y'all, heres another silly ? from the doofus... i shouldnt hafta reflash gapps if im going from CM7 to miui, would i?

I use Mybackup Pro, so I can't say what happened with your Titanium restore.... I never had any issues with MyBackup. I actually have backups from both in case one ever fails on me.

When I play with new ROMs, I don't necessarily restore all my apps immediately. I want to focus on what's there already (cause I already know what my apps do). Once I determine the ROM is solid and that I might stick with it for more than a week, then I'll try to restore all my data/apps.

Hmmm weird. yeah i had given it a test spin and everything was OK, i was trying to drop a few simple apps back one at a time but none would go back. Just checkin if it was a known issue. I'll reflash and troubleshoot it then. Thanks for the response.

Edit: You know what my dumb ass should have tried updating busybox before i gave up
Edit2: Yeah i just had issues with it on a z rom also, updated busybox...probably the issue on miui.

This may not be the best way, but I no longer bother restoring apps. I've saved app data for some apps in MBP, and I saved a list of all my apps with market links (thru ShareMyApps app). I just go to android market on my pc and click to install. It takes 5 min to do all the apps, and is totally reliable.

This way is foolproof and no problems at all.

Ok flashed this and got it all set up and wow, a lot of functionality, smooth, so much nicer after you ditch the iphone look.
