Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

wow I owe you big time. Thought I would be waiting a couple of days at least that was a clutch move right there. Just got my new prevail today the one from 3 weeks ago dropped in the water while power washing my shop floor. Still works just poorly. Anyways thanks a bundle.

No problem. Glad I could help :)

Since the links are down, I'll leave this up until I run out of space.

Someone keeps reporting my files to mediafire as copyright infringement.

I've stopped putting them back up for the time being. Waiting for the heat to die down :D

Thanks for keeping the information flowing

I don't get it either Kouma. I mean it's not like the files are actually causing any damage or something. In fact, they are helping people save their phones in some cases. :)

That is the problem. These companies don't want US fixing our phones. They lose money that way.

Yep and that sux. Thankfully enough of us already have Odin stashed away.

I will say this about Samsung though, they make some of the best devices on the market IMHO. I would love to have one of their new phones. When I do get a chance to upgrade I'll probably end up with one of their devices. Any word on yours yet?

LMAO at what you've got listed for your carrier!!!!!:rofl:

yes, sort of.

They don't care if we genuinely fix our own phones.

What they don't want is for us to break our phones, then be able to hide it completely so that they have to fix it under warranty. That actually costs them money, they'd much rather be able to say, "You messed with things you shouldn't have, and you broke it. That's your bad, not ours. But, we can fix it for you for a nominal fee"

hey guys, is there a way of not deleting user data? or is it mandatory? im not a samsung kinda guy(even tho i own a gs2)

Well that depends on what you're trying to accomplish, if you want root, use Odin to install just cwm and then flash a super user zip. You may need to modify the updater script from one to work for the prevail. (There isn't one made for our phone that I'm aware of)

If you're trying to downgrade/unbrick then yea, data wipe is mandatory.

Edit- come to think of it, I think when the newest baseband was released the kernel was modified because we had some issues with root for a while (until kouma came and fixed it)

So, in short, yes its mandatory lol

well im on the latest update and was hoping to accomplish root but just realized the usb connection is broken on the phone, i was like ugh why?! x3 lol thanks for the quick response!

downloaded all my links from this thread and had a previous version of odin that detected the phone. Current version of odin will not detect device. Just installed drivers and seems to work fine. Suggetions ? to get it to detect my phone... (noob at this)

Hi, I posted in your dummy thread, Lordvincent90, but I should have posted here instead since this thread is more active. Do you happen to have the file SPH-M820-CWM-5027-UPDT-FIXED2A.zip? It seems to have vanished and I can't find mirrors. Thanks for sharing your hard work!

Thank you 😍
However, I found that it wasn't needed. I flashed the rooted (not stock) zip, and it seems that CWM comes with it. Perhaps it should be mentioned in the guide. ..

I guess I've been around too long. I figured it was a given :p
But I made a note anyways :)

Looking for this one I think. "PREVAIL_M820_FA19_Rooted_CWMhttp://www.mediafire.com/?kb4nr93l994q9o8" A friend of mine has a stock prevail. Is it best to do the Odin thing first or just boot in recovery mode on the stock phone and Flash the new rom and kernal?

The stock recovery won't let you flash anything. That's the point of using odin to install a rooted image (which comes with cwm... the custom recovery capable of flashing zips)

Edit- I have fe16 and ff19 on drop box right now, is there a reason you want fa19 in particular? Unless someone beats me, I can upload it in a few hours, I'm away from home at the moment...
