***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm a fickle phone user, I admit. My first Smartphone was an HTC Windows Mobile phone back in the day. When I switched to the iPhone 3G, I was in heaven. After using iPhones exclusively, I switched to a Droid X in 2010, mainly because of my frustration with the early iPhone 4 problems. Really liked the Droid X at first, but the quirks and glitches became annoying enough for me to switch back to an iPhone 4 and move to Verizon in early 2011. However, the lure of LTE in my area caused me to switch to a Droid Bionic at launch earlier this year. For the most part, the Bionic is a very decent phone (especially with the extended battery).

I've been tempted to switch back to iPhone with the lure of Siri. However, I think the Galaxy Nexus is the phone I really want to settle on. I no longer desire to have a skinned Android phone that takes forever to get updates. I know there's no guarantee that the GN will get quick updates if Verizon interferes, but it should stand a better chance than most.

That said, I'm still evaluating the pros and cons of either sticking with the Bionic, switching to iPhone 4S, or gravitating to the Galaxy Nexus. The main lures of the iPhone 4S to me are Siri, integration with my other Apple devices, and the superb camera. Financially speaking, I'm sure many would say it would be smart just to stick with the Bionic since I'm on contract, but I have the money and don't mind buying another phone off-contract. With the Galaxy Nexus, I would be gaining a "pure" Android phone with the features of ICS, a 720p screen, and stay on LTE (which has been excellent in my area). The camera on the GN, while reportedly not as good as the iPhone 4S, will certainly be a leap from the Bionic (which is truly horrible). I am a bit worried about battery life, however, as I've been using the extended battery on my Bionic and get about 10-12 hours of moderate-heavy use out of it. I really need the phone to last at least 8-9 hours of moderate use (including about 30-45 minutes of Mobile Hotspot during that time.

I guess I've got plenty of time to think about it, given the Galaxy Nexus' delayed launch! (sigh)

Argh! It's bad enough trying to catch up on this thread without the phandroid app bumping me back to the top of the current page I'm on every time I accidentally slightly rotate my phone! ;)

Yeah, I wish hitting refresh (or rotating) took you to the last post, or the last viewed post.

So glad to be done with Verizon BS!!!!

Just purchased an unlocked nexus and will be moving to t-mobile. Luckily, we have great t-mobile coverage over here and a friend of mine was getting 7mbps on his 4g t-mobile phone. Plenty fast for me!

Screw you verizon! Can't wait to call and cancel your service when I get my unlocked nexus.

Way things are going. I'm betting over.

Agreed.. we've done a LOT this past weekend. It was amazing. If we go at this pace, we'll hit 60k by or before the end of the week. Now, having said that, I'm going to have to close this thread because I want to leave a mark attainable for the next epic thread I create. mwah hahahahahah!

I wonder if this is the issue:

Dear Verizon: Your 4G Phones Have Data Connectivity Problems, And It’s Really Pissing Everyone Off

My 4g xoom has this issue.

Something to think about

sorry I'm late catching up today, but this is what drives me crazy with the Thunderbolt, and it's discouraging to hear it appears to affect every Verizon LTE device. I switched earlier this year from Sprint and the EVO never had this problem switching between WIMAX and 3G.

I seriously have to kill the mobile network or go into airplane mode several times a day just to get a data connection back - I'm in LA with pretty good 4G coverage but these phones just suck when it comes to switching between 4G/3G. I was hoping that the newer LTE phones would fix this but now I'm not so sure...

I'm pretty surprised the Rezound doesn't have more buzz. It does seem like a really nice phone.

It is a really nice phone and has a whole list of pros with only one or two cons, IMHO.

I wrote mt first impressions in this thread:

My two biggest problems are that it doesn't have ICS already and it isn't pure Google. I remember waiting for HTC to update the Eris. I'm not sure I want Sense on my phone even though I really like it. It is kind of a love hate thing.

I hate my Thunderbolt. I wish I didn't buy the first 4G phone. Problem magnet

I actually love Sense a lot but I wanted the pure Google experience this time around. But this release fiasco is making me consider the Rezound.

is the 4g connectivity on phones a verizon thing or a lte radio thing?

i will say that my OG droid will lose data connection at least once or twice a day with stock froyo. it was worse rooted with CM7.

do other carriers have this issue? i've highly considered finding a used OG to last me through next year to get a more reliable radio. hard to pass up the nexus goodness tho. especially after waiting this long...

Since we compare this release to the Dinc release so much... thought it was interesting that Dinc preorders began on 4/19 and was released on 4/29 (10 days). Current rumor of 12/5 preorder and 12/15 release (10 days) might hold some (salt) water. Or it all could be completely bogus and we'll be crying in our pillows again on 12/5.

the issue is not the devices themselves, it's Verizon's backends are doing hand shakes all wrong. The trade offs that should be coming from the tower when switching between modes are screwy

/this info was gleamed from a droid charge issues thread but I'm too lazy to go looking for it

If still no word on 12/5 I will hold out for a phone in 2012.

I would go buy a Rezound right now if it didn't have the buttons on the bottom.

Honestly, I am sick of waiting and the specs are impressive and the SD card is a big thing for me.

However, I really can't see getting a phone now that has the physical buttons when it seems like everything Android will be going away from that now with ICS.
