hi guys!
im a first time android buyer here. upgrading from a 5 year old flip phone to the G-Nexus. so excited!

i have a question about the bootloader. i am 100% new to android but not new to tech. i want the full functionality of my phone. tethering, primarily.

any tips and tricks for a newbie? and my only other question is- with the nexus, unlocking the bootloader is akin to rooting right? will doing so alter the ICS experience in any way? i want to experience the ICS that everyone is raving about but i really want to be able to tether.

thanks in advance!

Rooting is like getting admin access on your PC. By itself it changes nothing about the experience.

Please see my posts and others in the discussion on the previous page for answers to your other questions. ;)

Welcome to the forums! :)

Btw - more and more New Mexicans here. Nice! I have made our New Jersey cousins honorary New Mexicans and they appreciate it! :D

I noticed a few weeks ago before I even became a member you said something about high desert... then I noticed you live in New Mexico. My girlfriend lives up in high desert.

I literally read New Mexicans and thought that it said New Nexicans. LOL. My mind is being taken over by this phone, I can no longer read! :p

Glad to see I'm not the only one working 3rd shift tonight. But, time to check out and grab some Zzzzzzzs.

Here's to something good getting unearthed today! Cheers! Nite!

Add me to the list of 3rd shift crew. Working at the data center here.

CONFIRMATION!!!!!!!! Well, now I just gotta make sure I take extremely good care of this RAZR so I can return it...

I've been trying to do the same thing until last night when my kids distracted me and my Razr went splat on the garage floor. You think Verizon will take my insurance replacement?

Oh shoot....I don't know. I am not familiar with their terms when it comes to replacement phones, but I would bet that they would know about the insurance replacement if it came through them and would not accept it.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. :(

Good Morning GNexers! I see I just missed some more document/email leaks last night. I am a little disappointed about Friday, I work a M-Th schedule, and I had saved vacation for it, and rearranged my carpooling schedule so I was driving on Thursday. Friday I get paid OT when I work, and obviously can't use vacation, so will not get paid for any time I take off to get the phone. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers. I am just happy to see it is only three days away, and doesn't look like its moving. Will call my local VZW store and see what's up later.

WOW... I'd be pretty upset... Only a few more days. That's exactly why I bit the bullet and bought a cheap case for this thing.

With all the info about a possible launch this week I decided to attempt to install the Android SDK and get ready to at least unlock the phone once I get it. I have an hour or so before work so I hope this is not too complicated.

So some interesting tweets from Droid-Life last night. I wonder how true it is that all the Verizon bigwigs are using the Nexus over say the RAZR. And Kellen suggested that the reason that there won't be much advertising is because they feel it won't need any on their part, we will do it for them. (we being the tech community).

Hmmmm...looks like I'm gonna have to make a "doctor's appointment" for Friday morning. :)

I'm so happy to finally see a confirmation. I've got Friday off (was planning it anyway), so I'm liable to be at Verizon when they open. Can't wait to get my new Nexus in my grubby left paw. :)

YES! Can't believe I didn't think of this earlier. I've been trying to figure out how I can get out of work for a few hours when this finally does launch. I feel like an idiot!

Also, are there supposed to be TWO pics of the retail packaging in the OP? One seems to have a broken link. Can anyone link to the original? I'm also assuming that the boxes in the background are all Nexus as well for this particular store (these ARE stock in a store right?), so there SEEMS to be a decent amount of them.
