I really do think the Twitter/e-mail blast probably did contribute to this. It would have continued throughout all of next week. It's probably why the press release doesn't mention a specific date, they still don't want it to overshadow the RAZR.

The fact that they confirmed it already does more than any date could ever do... I really don't think they wanted to announce it this soon.

my thoughts exactly. i think the social media/email assault they were under might have nudged them along a bit faster than wanted

Yep, this forced whatever was holding up going public with Nexus into resolving. I'm still curious what it was.

Well, I believe the pressure worked. I have an inside source (not THE source) telling me that they are working out some issues still. Who cares? Right? We got de phone.

I think it was wise of them to put our minds at ease, at least.

It's from "This is my next", probably the most respected and well run tech blogs in all the land. They dont publish things unless they know. Especially the word "confirmed".

Their source was BGR, who got the full text (I think) of the Verizon press release.

I tried searching Verizon for that, but got instead a page telling me what to press to release my battery. Ummmm. Ok. o-O

BGR - getting the specs, getting the confirmation. (clutches chest) I'm coming, Elizabeth! (Sanford and Son reference)

I don't think it was being held for any perfect time to announce. We'll see I guess. If it hits without even a wisper of an ad campaign there was no reason to blackout announcements they would carry it. That just wouldn't make any sense in my opinion. Who knows what was on the table yet? I guess the assault demanding info forced the demise of whatever reservations they had about admitting they would carry the device. I would like to know what reservations they had about Google and Sammy saying they would carry it??

No word of it being exclusive to them, not that it matters. As long as they don't make you wait until December 31st! ;)

Re: Galaxy Nexus is official for Verizon
"later this year." A press release on a Friday?Verizon is doing everything it can not to market this phone.

There's certainly some politics going on with this phone.
