***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I for one hope that it comes to multiple carriers quickly. As a Verizon subscriber, I could care less about it being an exclusive because I am already with them. That's just a ploy to pull in new clientele.

However, I definitely see the potential in ICS to take this operating system to the masses in a slick, user friendly package that is not iOS. Ice Cream Sandwich really seems to have a mass appeal factor to it, which, lets face it, is something that Android has been sorely lacking.

Duarte himself said at the conference that people didn't love their android phones. I would take that a step further... I believe most people that own android phones WANT to love them. Then they get a force close or it freezes, or they can't figure out how to do what they want to do.

The thing that burns me is that ICS, by all that we have seen and read, addresses most of this... and its being treated like the black sheep of the family by Verizon.

Personally, I like choice and freedom, which is what attracted me to android in the first place. I really want the platform to succeed.

So yes, I will have a GNex on VZW, but if Google really wants to make up ground on the fruit, it will need to do it with as many outlets possible.

Eventually it will come to that, with other manufacturers and phones eventually sporting ICS, but I sure wish they would use the GNex to make a big push in that direction right now.

More than you want to know of the GN's display.

Galaxy Nexus with curved 4.65" OLED display - FlatpanelsHD

Thanks Gapi. Now this begs the question of why? Why did Sammy put a subpar screen into such a ground-breaking device? I know, I know. Yes, it's a great phone. I'll be getting it as fast as I can and like a magic trick, I bet all of this can be explained away in a debate. I just can't understand why the best wouldn't have been thrown at this device. Does this shorten the amount of time I'll own it or even mean that I'll notice. Maybe at first, but I'll get used to the display and love it. It's just my opinion that a true GAME CHANGER is a phone that leaves you wowed with every spec on the phone. That is all.

The following is a video review of a retail device. It is in Italian so I don't know what the reviewer is saying but it is very detailed.

In the comments section the reviewer said:
1) No lag when switching between apps.
2) Better battery life than Galaxy S2 (which is impressive given the bigger screen with much higher resolution). "You can complete one full working day without a problem".
3) Screen is "gorgeous, very detailed with crisp colors and high contrast".

Overall, winner winner chicken dinner!:p

If anyone speaks Italian could you please tell us if they mentioned call quality and loud speaker performance.

Enjoy!:D

Because the technology to make it a HD SAMOLED+ RGB display isn't available yet (or wasn't when they designed it). But really, how often do you use a magnifying glass when looking at your screen? Also, how often does viewing angle come into play? It makes sense to critique the viewing angle of a television because there are multiple places within a room where one would want to see it clearly, but on a phone? How often are you going to be looking at it from not-straight-on? I highly doubt you'll notice or be at all disappointed in the display, considering the high pixel density.

I don't think Motorola has to worry about the Razr's being to powerful to fall into the wrong hands, because they've locked it down and secured it well with an ENCRYPTED BOOTLOADER!!!!

BWAH HAHAHAHAHAHA PWNED!

It is locked, BUT unlockable - at least for those lucky ones not on VZW

OK. Since I don't have the knowledge, I have to go with the tech not being there for now. I know what you mean and you're right. I won't be taking a magnifying glass and I likely won't notice an inferior screen. I'm just saying that I feel like we have had to defend certain components of this phone more than necessary. I hope that when we get this in our hands, everything will make sense.

I'm still not sure how I feel about the implementation of the on screen buttons. From the bottom of the phone to the top of the navigation bar seems like it is almost an inch before you get to usable screen. It makes the phone look a little lopsided in landscape mode and renders the phone 4.3" for 90% of my usage. I think it would have been better if they could have figured out a way to get the screen to go all the way to the bottom and then put the on screen buttons on the bottom of the phone.

I mean we are all still ("educatedly") guessing at this point, and the screen may very well look like crap, but the hands on videos and the high pixel density lead me to believe that it will be a pretty great looking display. The only bad pics I've seen of it so far was that GSMArena(?) comparison pic with the iPhone where both screens looked washed out and terrible. But since that's the only outlier, I'll blame it on the camera used to take the pic. It is all meaningless until I hold it in my hand and see for myself though.

Thanks good vid. The phone looks big when he holds it, he must have tiny hands. Somehow I don't think I'll have the same issue, here's a pic of me holding the iPhone 4, an no it's not PS'd.

It certainly looks like the Galaxy Nexus will be a wonderful phone. Per the previous posters re: Super Amoled plus, I also wonder why Samsung didn't put it in this phone. Maybe they will be switching to a different screen technology in the Galaxy Nexus II and bypassing Super Amoled plus. It would certainly be to the carrier's and consumer's advantage to be able to switch phones after 1 year. Certainly, 1 year from now will have many more advancements in screen, power and chip technology.

Maybe you should get the Galaxy Note then...:p;)

I did think about it, but I have a calculator of almost exactly the same dimensions, and while it looks ok in my ape like hands, it's just too large in the pocket, ooohh eerrrrr missus. Also, if I pulled the Note out in a bar with my friends there would be no end of abuse.

"Hey Charlie, King Kong called, he wants his phone back", etc, etc.

No kidding! God help your loved one if what they say is true!:D

Link to vid for London Nexus announcement. Nothing really that new in there, but may be of interest to some, skip to 38 mins for the Nexus.

Good Morning GNexers. I see there was some good conversations last night. Hopefully we hear a good nugget today (like battery, or official release date), now that the RAZR has officially gone on pre-order.

I thought I read somewhere that battery was 1750?

The international version has been confirmed as 1750, but a tester and Steven's fantastic source have hinted at a spec changing from the international version to ours, and I think they implied we would like it... Now it could just be 32GB vs. 16GB onboard, but some people here are thinking/hopeing it could be the battery has been boosted slightly (maybe to 1850).

Yeah I think battery life is still a huge question, perhaps the largest one still outstanding. If Sammy/Google managed to get a decent life even on LTE, that would really cement this phone in the top spot of Verizon's line-up IMHO.

I originally thought that too, and then I had to start using my OG Droid in landscape mode (out of necessity), and I realized that I thoroughly enjoyed having that bottom lip to hold the phone by. If GooSammy had gone edge-to-edge screen like some fans were advocating for, there would be no comfortable way to hold the phone in landscape because your right hand would either block the screen or be pushing the software buttons. Now I'm glad they left that lip on the bottom of the phone.
