Does that mean I can buy without having an Android phone? I have a Google account but I still have a non-smart phone. I'd like to get some apps for cheap as I'm planning on getting the Nexus.
I am in the same boat. Does anyone know? I have tried to buy from websites (other than Market)) and they insist I download to the phone.

Google said Verizon made them disable Google Wallet. You aren't going to be able to download it from the market and use it. At all.

Well, there are conflicting reports. I believe the AP report agrees with you, but the WSJ says that Verizon will allow it to be downloaded from the Market

(
Verizon isn't preloading Google Wallet on the phone, but won't prevent users from downloading it from Google's app store as long as it gets cleared, a person familiar with the matter said.
Verizon Blocks Google Wallet on New Smartphones - WSJ.com )

I doubt VZW will put out two PR releases in one day. If the phone really is soft launching on Thursday, then I'll bet we'll see a PR announcement tomorrow.

I wonder if you can just get the apk, without downloading it from the market. could just be as easy as badda bing badda boom...Probably not if vz is going to get anal about it..

I'm sure there will be a work around this in a matter of days (possibly even before release) lol

actually there already is over at XDA...

This is turning into a he said she said thing also.

I've heard reports that:
-VZW made them disable it
-google gave it exclusively to sprint.
-you will be able to download it, its just not pre-installed

and those are just the more reliable ones lol

I believe you are correct. It was already disabled on the GSM versions, since Google Wallet is only authorized to work in the US. One of the blog sites was able to get it working, but warned that you probably didn't have any protection that IMO is REQUIRED before I use a service like that. I don't believe it will be downloadable, and we will be without ANY NFC payment method until Isis comes out. (And like my joke earlier, under what terms will we have to agree to use it?)

I could see them doing that if a preorder is happing tonight at midnight, at least that is what they did with the Droid 3, it showed up for pre order and next day announced when it would be in stores

We are possibly 2-3 days from launch and still nothing...

Cmon VERIZON!

That's why I'm not getting my hopes up. I think we can all assume that whatever would make us the most sad is exactly what Verizon will do. I am still not expecting anything this week, but I'm hope I'm wrong.

For people buying off contract:
Have you considered just opening up a new line and paying monthly? Would that work out to be cheaper? I'm still trying to figure this out, if the phone is 299 with 2-yr contract..Anyone with some insight?

The other factor is I am hearing that you cannot pre order (if there is a pre order) if you are not eligible for upgrade or opening a new line..

ok, we need an all out assault on VZW stores, we need intel and we need it now:

I need all wealthy men on this forum to slip your favorite CSR a Benjamin, all ladies I need you to break out that wonder-bra (do they still make those?) with your lowest cut top that you have and let the girls work their magic on the loneliest CSR in the store....lets go people move move move move!!!

That was a PR product announcement (no release date). We are waiting for a PR product release (actual date). It could still happen... different purposes. My 2 overly-optimistic cents.

A couple people did the math about 20k posts ago, I think the difference turned out to be like 30-40 $ IF you play games so you don't get stuck with a data plan also. (on the add a line, you need to have access to a dumb phone to put on it).

Without official pricing from VZW its hard to say for sure though.

I remember back a month ago looking for a release date and "WO" kept coming up, it was either; "week of" or "web only", I guess it was neither.

You're kidding, right?

24 months at $50 a month, pretty much what it costs to add a data line, is $1200 + $300 for the phone = $1500

So, no

EDIT:

Cancel your existing line, add ETF for the canceled line @ 350 and then you only have one line to pay.... so... $350 + 300 and you are in a new phone for about the same as it costs to buy it outright.

I did the math a while back, and it is almost a wash. If you can snag a loyalty discount, since that will only apply to a subsidized price, I would add a line. Don't forget you will need a dumb phone for the extra line, so if you don't have one, will need to add that in to your comparison.
