Official Release Date Rumor Thread

For what it's worth....I dropped by an AT&T store today to pick their brains (i know, wishful thinking) and they didn't have a clue.

Not only did they not know when the Attain was coming, they had no clue that there was a phone even called the Attain, or that Samsung was releasing a galaxy II variant to AT&T.

I'm just shocked that someone who gets paid to sell phones can't even bother to spend 5 minutes on an android forum to inform themselves. Again, had I been a regular consumer that didn't do research, they would have let me walk out the door with an Infuse, only to get trumped less than a month later.

Not that surprising...

Awesome stuff guys i've been reading for over two months and finally decided to sign up to to add to the forum. I am out of my mind bat sh*t mad that the sg s2 isn't out yet but i've finally decided that i'm gonna pick up the lg thrill and if the sg s2 isn't out by my 30 day exchange then f'em that is seriously outrageous 6-7 months to bring a phone to the biggest market in the world clearly shows how far apart samsung and apple are. You either offer the phone and the big 3 take it or not you don't cat and mouse back and forth you look weak and makes apple have the upper hand. I just think samsung should announce like Nokia just did that they wont have the N9 and make it official don't let ppl sit around waiting if it won't come.

Just a slight correction, USA is not the biggest phone market in the world. I know its nice to think we are, but that's just not the case. A small part in why it is taking so long is because they're selling like hotcakes in the big market, and supply is low untill the demand over there goes down. We have always been a year or 2 behind on the top end phones out there. We're actually shortening the gap in my opinion. I remember it taking another 8 months just for AT&T to release the Tilt 2( my current phone) and at $349! All we have to do is keep our cool, know that they are playing their little marketing/political games, and pray that our government stops trying to keep us behind on technology(the people who cant afford ordering a phone at full price overseas anyways)

What are the odds that it'll be RELEASED and not just announced in the same week? I'd like to have it in my hands in Aug.

I'd wager somewhere between slim and none.

I'd love to be wrong, but given that corporate stores don't even seem to know this phone exists yet, I'm guessing we're minimum of 2 weeks (and probably longer) away from seeing this phone available.

Well that's disappointing. Of course we'll all be waiting to see what they say at the announcement party. But i've been dying to get this phone for months! I'm getting really tired of my iPhone 3g. It's getting more and more laggy with each week.

It was mentioned earlier but not resolved... Anything conclusive on whether or not the Attain will be the GT-i9103 model with the Tegra 2?

Most at&t reps don't know anything. I stopped by there today and asked if the LG Thrill 4G is being released as planned(8/21/11). She said I'm not sure but there is a 3D device coming soon. I was like...........ahhhh....OK. That is the Thrill

Even IF they actually release the SGSII for sale on the announce date, WHY on earth would you jump on that phone when the (Samsung Made) Nexus Prime is releasing in October with a higher resolution AMOLED screen, faster processor, AND the new Android ICS OS?

Confirmed release?

Not sure is it is confirmed but I was at Sams Club yesterday and upgraded my phone and talked to the guy for a while and when I mentioned the sgs2 he kinda smiled. He told me that a regional rep. had just visited the store earlier today and talked to them about it and that the 29th is the announcement and release. He said that all 4 carriers (wasn't sure about tmobile but said the big 3 for sure) should be receiving the phone on this day and what they are doing right now is a silent release with no info until the 29th. Take that for what its worth but sounded pretty legit and you'd think that stores reps would be getting the info out around that 2 week advanced notice mark.

Hmm...true, confirmed information on phones is at a premium these days....but I don't know if that would be enough to sway me from holding off another month for a phone I know will have the latest Android OS, faster processor, & higher rez screen.

I'm a Samsung fan, and if it were being made by any other manufactor....I'd be more inclined to get the Sammy instead. But....since its essentially an upgraded Samsung phone to the Galaxy + all the benefits of it being a Google phone....I think I have to wait it out.

As for the validity of the Nexus Prime being released in Oct....everything I've read says that Google is ahead of schedule for Android ICS and are expected to make a splash in October......potentially to take some wind out of Apple's sails....with their iPhone 5 & iOS5 being released in Oct.

This is just maddness to me. LOL

The phone has been touted as the iPhone killer, has had incredible sales (relatively speaking) over the last 3 months....supposedly delayed release to compete with iPhone's schedule......and then introduce it to the US market with no notice (meanwhile, all kinds of new android phones that could trump it in the next few months are swirling around in the ether)

I just think about how many customers over the next two weeks will purchase top of the line android phones (some only being months old), only to get out done with a stealth advertising campaign. Genius!

The primary reason I haven't gotten a Nexus device yet was because AT&T has yet to get them in a timely manner - the phone is old news before I can buy it on contract (and like so many, I can't afford to buy one off contract). It would be awesome if the described scenario did happen, but I'm taking this with a lot of salt. I won't wait - with the rate Android evolves, if you always wait for the Next Great Phone being released in a few months, you'll never buy a new phone.

That said, if the Nexus Prime IS released in October, I'm not above ebaying a 2 month old SGSII and buying the NP off contract ;)

But will you be able to make your money back (or atleast take only a small hit) if you try to sell an out dated Samsung device running an older Android OS? You essentially end up eating 100-200 bucks on the deal because the electronics manufactures are at eachothers throats.

I get you have to jump in the pool at some point....I just think the way the contracts are structured AND the out of contract prices make for a VERY fustrating consumer experience because we don't have all the information we need to make intellegent decisions.

Again....I can only think of all the uninformed Cell Carrier employees that have let customers (over the last 1-2 months) walk right out the door with bad info or inferior products.

I think about all the Samsung AMOLED fans that walked right out the door with a Samsung Infuse, not knowing a phone, twice that of the Infuse, is going to be released in less than a month.

I think about all the Android customers, looking for a dual core processor phone, walking right out the door with the Moto Atrix...not knowing that a better dual core phone + BETTER screen is being released in less than a month.

it's their job to sell phones. it's the customers job to be informed about what they're buying. if you depend on a someone with an agenda to be your only source of information you can only complain but so much.

Agree with Boondoc. They are there to make the sale and move products. Its not like the Infuse is a bad phone..just not as good as the "next" phone which is getting close now. This type of thing happens everywhere. For an off subject example: look at the 2010 mustangs compared to the 2011 mustangs. Better handling, much more power, and not much more cost. Wonder how many un-knowing 2010 owners got ticked off after that?

I was pretty interested in the Atrix until I actually went and saw one in person and saw the screen quality. That penTile screen is really crappy...no deal. Now I wait to hear the news on the 29th.
