Questions you would like answered.

I read before that you have to wipe the screen free of any dirt or prints before using a stylus or else it will damage the rubber tip. is this true also for the s-pen?

Yes, u should clean prior to applying protector. I use sunglass microfiber cloth and air can cleaner for keyboards.

Not sure bout rubber tips on s-pen.

So, I go to dinner with some family tonight and my Uncle keeps telling my aunt to show me her phone... All of a sudden, she busts out the Note 1!!!!....Lol...so we all keep joking about it cuz it's so big, especially my cousin (her son) and I. My Uncle takes the case off and surprisingly, it felt way more comfortable holding it than I anticipated and how it felt at Best Buy. I didn't take pictures, but I have a feeling the comfort level of holding the note 2 is gonna be much better than reviews are stating.

Maybe it was the fact that the security tag wasn't obstructing my being able to hold the phone freely, but I'm not as uncomfortable with the size as I thought I'd be. I'll still be getting the bluetooth s-pen, but a caseless note 2 with a protective skin will be just fine for me.

It can be used with a screen protector.

So what's this about?

Edit - After reading about people saying they have already noticed some scratches and that some think it is just a way for Samsung to get people to maybe buy their own protectors I guess I will be getting one. My iPhone 4 screen still has no scratches and I carry it in my pocket (not with keys of course).

It probably isn't as sinister as that, even. Simply a liability clause/disclaimer disguised as a 'warning'. A cheap protector could theoretically cause issues, even if not likely. An old, yellowed one, same thing. Easier to say don't do it; obviously it's not an inevitable issue if they sell one, too.

I made a point in that thread that I take it as the same viewpoint as "don't use a non-OEM micro USB charger." Although I could see more damage in that regard, than the screen protector.

If I were rich I'd be willing to bet on how many people will STILL root THEN complain about the lost s-pen functionality. If one is willing to loose that function they'd be better off with the SG3.

Rooting won't kill the features, but aosp will only because it is built from Google source which doesn't contain all of the proprietary Samsung code. Moded touchwiz ROMs will be fine because they will still contain Samsung's code. It will just contain extra features (expanded shutdown menu, kernel tweaks, init.d for startup scripts, etc.).

thanks, guys. it's the manual installation part (of the SP) that worries me. how hard do you clean the screen?

Not hard. Get some high percentage isopropyl alcohol and a micro fiber cloth (the kind used to clean glasses). Dip a corner of the cloth in the alcohol and rub it all over the screen. Then take the rest of the cloth that is dry and wipe down the screen.

Didn't read the names, saw that post and didn't realize it was you. Very good point.

I bolded (in red) what I was replying to which was this:

.....On the orig note aosp and aokp roms lost 95% of functionality

My original comment should've been If I were rich I'd be willing to bet people will STILL want custom roms THEN complain about the lost s-pen functionality. If one is willing to loose that function they'd be better off with the SG3.

Root jumped in there cause I was looking at the word root typing and typed it instead.

i would like to know.. if the note 2 can do the group texting same as iphone.

where you can send a text to 3 friends..
if one of the friends replies to the text..
I and the other 2 friends will automatically get that reply..

so that the conversation can keep moving back and forth between me and my friends. without anyone having to copy the response to the others.

Pretty sure that can be done with different android 3rd party text messaging programs. Go SMS definitely had it because i hated it and turned it off.

I get you now. Wasn't trying to be a prick, just clear up rooting and custom touchwiz ROMs vs AOSP ROMs.

I dont mind using other sms apps... they have better interfaces anyways.

I think Samsung's ChatON app does that as well.

cool.. how do you all like the ChatON?
how does it know... when a group text is being started by someone else????

I don't quite have everyone on board with it, but it seems like anyone who you have in your contacts that has it installed will show up within the app and you'll get a notification if you're included in a chat.

so.. it only works if .. everyone has the app installed?

is that the same with apps like .. GO SMS?

I personally think that Google should add this to the built in SMS service in our android phones.

As long as they allow you to remove it, I agree. What I don't like about that is, sometimes my friends that have iPhones will do a mass text and I'll get all these responses from people I don't know. I hate that. And then, if I reply, all these people that I don't know will have my number. Hate that too.

Even though I'm sure all of those people they mass text are trustworthy, I just prefer replying to people I know only and not "friends of friends".

i see your point...

of course there has to be a way.. in an incoming text.. you can see it is a group text.
and be able to respond with out taking participation in the conversation. kind of op-out of that group.

it is very helpful when you have 10 friends that are interested in the same subject..
or on vacation together, coordinating a meet up.

Does anyone know if the camera has a zoom feature? The zoom on my Razr camera is really good. Would hate to have such an advanced phablet as the Note 2 with something simple as zoom not being part of the camera software.

There's a pinch zoom feature on the camera (up to 4 x zoom) and I also think you can have tilt to zoom function to be enabled too. But dont take it for granted.

Yeah, it's looking more and more like that. Although, it's still possible that there'll be a staggered release for the different carriers, depending on which phones are prioritized.

Part of me feels like Sprint will prioritize the SG Note 2 over the Optimus G, since they had the formal press release for the SG Note 2 first. And they don't have a Phablet available yet, so they're the only ones not offering one at all (Verizon released the Vu or Intuition, ATT had the Note 1, and T-mobile released the Note 1 for a brief period).

So, if I were to predict, I'd say that Sprint would be the first of all the carriers to offer the Note 2. I never would have said that before, but it would make logical sense for them.
