Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

:driver:
I remember going through the same thing trying to find a no-start on a Taurus! That switch cuts out the fuel pump if I remember right.

I believe you are correct. Just one more part I always thought was not required. As I recall, the switch was in a molded plastic box and after it trips, you cannot reset it. The switch was not a typical switch as I recall. The parts were built into this little black box and it was not reparable.

Wire cutters, solder and heat shrink tubing cured the problem.

We'd just bypass. If the key doesn't work (switch defective or worn) just put a toggle switch on line. Older cars did that. We had a 49 Chev. PU that you turned the key on and used the starter on the floor. We did this on an Opel Kadett, and a 1963 Chevy Wagon.

Got a new body for my Spitfire - all wiring fried. Instead of dealing with the crazy wiring system - direct wire everything except brake and turn signals. I had a row of toggle switches on the dashboard. Everything worked.

I had a small repair shop in Utah tell me my Tacoma didn't exist. They could find no specs for a 2.7 liter engine. (usual size was 2.4) The Vulcan thought I was hallucinating, so we had 2 mechanics and the Vulcan under the hood reading the info. Another mechanic came on duty and said that Toyota did build one. I have a manual on the truck, and I can read, dammit.

I believe most ford models have this set up. My 95 mustang had it along with my dads 99 E-?? Van.

It is an emergency fuel cut-off and is now a federal requirement, all cars have it.

I figured it was something like that.

I think I'll buy a Model T and start at essentially the beginning. Cheap ass cars, simple and quite cool. Not a black one, however.

Perhaps painted a nice Ford Tractor Blue or maybe DuPont Chrome Oxide Yellow.

When I was an auto mechanic, I cursed engineers and the day they were born. I swear they put components in an automobile specifically in a configuration to make it difficult to get at them!
Other than that, my father and grandfather were engineers. Damn good ones too!
All tongue in cheek :)

My husband does some work on our car, and routinely curses automotive engineers who've made it so much harder for a DIYer to do maintenance on his car without shop facilities.

Men who have no idea how dumb they sound when trying to "pick up" a woman by starting out with HEY BABY....

Not your baby, you can't have my number and you are the very reason your gender is always in the doghouse with us gals ....

ok, I feel better now!

You got that right baby!;):p

Probably been said, but needs to be said again. What grinds my gears are the people who have too much babies without the necessary means to raise them properly.

Working at a Pediatric Hospital in the inner city, and I couldn't agree more. Makes me think things that would make many people very angry, and even surprise me.

It really isn't fair to the kids, let alone the rest of society who have to pay directly and indirectly for their inability to raise their own. I'm talking money for supporting them (paying for their Doritos and Pepsi dinners), housing (many families make more money for having more children, and intentionally have more for that reason. I see it happen.), and more.
Then the cycle continues because they grow up and lead the same lifestyle they were raised to think is normal and acceptable.

Man o man I could go on and on. It seriously hurts me deeply to see this every day. :bawling:

One of a plethora of things that grinds my gear are people who demands respect yet they haven't done anything to gain that respect. I had an ex-coworker who walked around thinking they knew everything, and would lash back and become vengeful if anyone corrected them or made them look stupid. Glad they're gone because now the workplace is much happier.

And the people who don't like the fact that kids need to be supported need to respect the decision not to have any.

We only had one. Not interested in more. She doesn't want kids. That's fine by me, it's her life. But all the old biddies keep harping on grandkids.
I'm not interested, she's not interested. I'm not ordering her to have kids so we can be "normal." So quit bugging me. I don't want grandkids except the kind with 4 legs.

My grandkids have - 4 legs, a tail and they go urf urf urf. In other words - Ferrets. She and her husband have nine of them.

I can relate, once we had a coworker that always yelled/argued with our customers and other employees, and when the time came for a performance evaluation they were dumbfounded when they didn't receive a raise. That employee also argued back saying she knew more more about the business than everyone else. etc.

Hey Stinky-
About your avatar - they have been around for millions of years and are probably the only organism who will survive a nuclear holocaust.

They are also making mini roach robos or using controlled roaches to hunt for earthquake, bomb, and mass mayhem victims in collapsed structures. They can get into places where a tracked or wheeled robot can't. Makes sense to me.

That elderly family member that needs medical care and who's nieces and nephews have decided that "Trivia Night" at the bar is more important than her being rushed to the hospital so it falls on my wife to rush an hour away to be with her.

Nevermind that she is the one that takes her to all of her doctors appointments.
