Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

This thread is starting to remind me of a Monty Python sketch.

(Sound: Church bells, lots of them, ringing.)
Man (Graham Chapman): I wish those bloody bells would stop.
Wife (Terry Jones): Oh, it's quite nice dear, it's Sunday, it's the church.
Man: What about us atheists? Why should we have to listen to that sectarian turmoil?

We don't have that in Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia... "I wish those bloody bells would stop." or "town hall clock tower chimes every quarter!" :p

Then there's Beijing Railway Station, where all people in the area accept bells chiming the hour with "The East Is Red" 24/7 "The Communist Party is like the sun...."

Oh well tomorrow is back to normal, summer holiday is over. Local elementary school will be blasting out "The East Is Red" on their loudspeakers for the whole neighbourhood to hear at 7am.

Maaan the one night where i really have to stay awake all night and my stupid brain decides its sleepy :banghead: stoopidhead
Worst thing is i also have to stay soberish

How the hell do we let Detroit go bankrupt? Its basically the last major industrial city in the country...we're a stones throw from becoming a 3rd world country if we don't re-industrialize and fix our infrastructure. Our government has failed us and all the two party bickering is getting nothing done...and the people suffer for their egos. Anyway I hear Canada is nice.

Do you know what grinds my gears? When **** in the laundry room at the apartment complex doesn't work right!

After I put my change in the dryer, the damn thing wouldn't even turn on.

Now I got clothes hang-drying all around the apartment, AGAIN. This is the second time in a row this happened to me.

I read an article somewhere on the world wide Web that the Dutch always dry their clothes outside, and they choose not to use dryers.

I heard Canada is nice as well. But couldn't get the immigration and work permits. So China here I am.

Detroit was doomed long ago..and you're right..it was the corruption...stupid city council...bad administration....and just plain....dumbness...that did it in...

edit
whoops.. I meant to quote the person you quoted mikedt!:)

PS Canadians are frickin crazy bad a5$'s

Dryers use up so much electricity! And generally the dutch are green people, so I hear. That's possibly why.

Good morning folks :)

Dutch: check!
Hanging my laundry out when it's nog raining: check!
Why? Have you ever sniffed the smell of outdoors hangdried laundry? It is one of the best smells. Plus: why should I be using electricity (which costs money too) when the sun and the wind are a fair option? My laundry is out to dry from april till september.

On the topic of washing/drying clothes...

In Switzerland the majority of the apartment houses contain shared washing rooms... You can't imagine how annoying it is to have a bi-weekly half a day slot to wash everything; especially if it falls to the morning time where in theory, one would need to work...

On the topic of church bells + washing...

Usually they ring the church bells for several minutes every hour (on the weekend it can be even more frequent), so at least there is some audio entertainment during washing your stuff... :)

Well since it's against the rules here at my apartment, that's a no go for me unfortunately. :(

I have the same situation. My lease specifically prohibits either outdoor clotheslines or hanging laundry indoors (indoors, the concern is about mold/mildew).

As far as actual laundry equipment, of the four apartments we've had since our marriage, one required a trek to a laundromat a block away, two had on-site laundry rooms, and the current one does too, but at a very inconvenient distance and not a good place to hang out to guard one's belongings (especially this time of year). Thus, we're currently renting a washer/dryer set from the management. Works out about the same dollar amount that using the laundry room likely would, and it's a LOT easier to deal with.

Lol you must be very patient then. I should do the same. With exceptions. I wash my work uniform after I work every time, and don't think it will be dry overnight for the next day.
Which reminds me,

Ask Google if its going to rain. Check
Put my clothes in the dryer check

The UK benefits/wellfare system that its so proud of has gone to the dogs! Ill try REALLY hard not to get political (****** english government we didnt vote for) but ive just spent 2 n a half hours trying to find out why me and my wife didnt get our ESA (basicly money for being medically unfit to work) today.. endless searching for the right number to ring only to ring it and be given another number again and again and being in a queue listening to like the music you imagine the british royal family listening to and being talked to like a piece of **** and answering endless security questions to eventually be told without a hint of apology that there was a mistake and the money will now probably be in the bank by the end of the day!!!
Sorry i dont often REALLY rant but that pisses me off. Im a Labour voter and ive payed a lot of tax into this country, bankers drag the isles into recession so businesses cant afford to pay good honest peoples wages and WE are the scum???
im totally up for a revolution. Even one of the things about the UK im most proud of, the National Health Service is a disgrace and the nurses get treated like crap too. Its rediculous man!!
Sorry :D

Sheer stupidity. We had an HOA when we first moved in. One rule was no clothesline unless you had a fenced back yard. All the houses across the street did have fenced back yards, but the fences were 10 feet downhill! Any laundry hung out would be visible from downhill.

I remember hanging laundry in the foothills. The Broadtail Hummingbirds kept diving my red doo rag. They start 50+ feet up and swoop in a U with the bottom just over your head.

I wish I could do that, but sadly, since I live in a tiny studio apartment with no washer/dryer hookups, that's not an option for me. :(

Better that than having the water turned off just after you start the washer. The aforementioned town in the foothills had a real water problem. Trouble is, they never let you know in advance. Drain the damn washer and go down canyon to Morrison to do laundry. Can be a PITA if the curbs are higher than your car.

We'd also wind up hauling trash cans full of water from the creek to flush the toilet.
We could boil that to wash with, and get bottled water to drink.

Both houses we owned. We could hang laundry wherever we wanted inside.

Wow, that is a major pain. You might as well be living in the dark ages putting up with that.
