Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

That grinds my gears somewhat, the way Google on setting up a new device seems to assume we're in the United States. We don't have bloody Chromecast in China! It was same thing yesterday on setting up the cheapo tablet, and that was a different Google account.

At least Android-x86 4.3 is working on the Macbook now. :)

When people know just enough science to come to completely the wrong conclusion.

I suppose the same can be said of when people know just enough about anything to get them into trouble, but something about the use of bad science to push views really irks me.

No views to push; just encouragement for Stinky. As far as science goes, I dabble a little in cosmology, astronomy, and astrology when it comes to locating stars. I also have an interest in quantum mechanics/physics. I once got into a debate with a 'born-again' Christian about science, vs. faith. I believe you can have both. He didn't, and proceeded to renounce Darwin as a heretic. I believe the teachings of Christ, but after my experience with organized religion - and how humankind has altered, folded and spindled the Judeo-Christian bible - I take everything - including my spirituality - with a free-spirited, more inclusive approach - including science. My higher power has given me the intellect to be able to discern; I choose to do that, in all aspects of life, with current science. The naysayers are many, and that's okay; I hope that this post doesn't offend, or inflame anyone; I only wish for all of humankind to peacefully coexist, as I try to do with anyone, every day. It is unnaturally cold in the Southeastern USA, as it is within a big chunk of the country - I hope that everyone stays warm, and healthy. The pic below was taken 8:30am, EST, at 17 degrees Fahrenheit.

A free Apple is something you sell to an Apple fanboy and use the $ to buy two decent laptops :)

What about the new Lenovo N308 laptop? 19" screen, 1600x900 res, running an Nvidea Tegra CPU, and, hold the phone - an Android OS - 4.2 Jelly Bean - for an MSRP of $450? That's a move in the right direction, worth a 32gB iPad...

I hate being the only person in the world using a laptop on my lap, its getting hard to find one without a 1.5 lap size screen

I feel for you, bro; I've got a 3.2" screen on this Prevail, and use one of those headphone-plug styli to tap because I'm using a third-party keyboard set at 5-row QWERTY; I've tried swyping, but you end up depending upon the software to give you the correctly spelled words; bah! I'm old-school, with lowly 3G and a booster app that makes downloads a bit quicker (Internet Turbo Booster; Google Play); funny, I've gone to McDonald's to use their free wi-fi with a cup of coffee, and with five people or more sharing bandwidth, I'll just save the gas, and coffee money - and suffer through the 3G sludge.
We're two peas in a pod, no? Have a good day, Eugene - LW

My Latitude C400 is the best laptop, 12" non wide screen, just big enough but not too big.

Sounds cool. I met a cat a few years back who had a laptop like that; he was running a strictly Linux OS that made even his 1.6 gHz laptop 'Sir Speedy'; not many bells and whistles, but enough to surf, get email, et cetera. That thing was stripped-down like a streetlight muscle car. If I had the Linux chops he had, I'd be doing more than finding root for HTC & Samsung smartphones, that's for sure.

I'm not going to give advice, it's your life, I would just say that honesty is the best policy - I give it and expect it in return.

I wish you all the best on this, I really do.

Btw, a lot of us here will be happy to help you sort out any device details or questions - we don't care about gender or experience level, we were all new at this once. ;)

I really don't like the having to pay bills... I try to automate things as much as possible, and I try to pass off the rest to my wife, but she is as bad as I am about it.

I feel you, man. 2014, and while SA does their thing, we've got places here Stateside that want to take voters rights away, and return women back to the times before Roe V. Wade. I'll never understand the belief systems that some countries - and people - still have. All I can do is balance my walks in life, keep my good intent ahead of me, and treat people the way I want to be treated. That's all that I can suggest, or surmise - my screen name here says it all. We've all got to start loving one another more, to combat the negative energy that seems to run rampant. My two cents. Or, to adjust for inflation, my dime (chuckle). Have a good weekend, Stinky - and don't let a faction of Afrikaaners get you sideways...

WASP males are in a panic, that's why. (White, Anglo-Saxon, Mainline Protestant) I grew up in a town full of the buggers.

So did I, back in the '60s & '70s. Being Italian American wasn't easy when I moved from the North Shore (lots of Italian & Irish families, linked together by the Vatican I-style Roman Catholicism) to the Tory South Shore of Massachusetts; mainline Lutheran, Baptist & Presbyterian descendants of The 1621 Mayflower lived there, and anyone who had a vowel at the end of their surname like I did got picked on, ostracized, or later, like my younger brother and I did, became popular because we were different, as well as being well-known locally for playing music every weekend, whether at a gig, or at home while my mother confiscated car keys from anyone who came to visit while we rehearsed. Mom didn't have a clue, but she wasn't stupid; she'd say, "Everybody must be broke - they share one cigarette between five people." She caught on after awhile, saying "I shoulda never bought you that dashiki shirt on your 12th birthday - now, you listen to that modern jazz/rock music; in my day, jazz musicians smoked that ropa-dope!" My father shook his head, and said "Mah-dohne (Italian-American for Mother Mary - L'Madonna)... the police are gonna come. Get these kids the hell atta heah!" We lived on the wealthy side of town, couldn't lose face... ah, but that was then, before 24/7 news cycles. We were insulated from the world, until Vietnam and Watergate. I love my country, except for the corruption, and greed. That's pretty much everywhere, now. That's why we all need to love one another, regardless of our ideological differences. Goodness must prevail. I'm done. May your weekend be good, too.

I bought it in 2002 and within a year had made the switch to Linux. XP had a lot of issues, the biggest was the forced integration of the major security hole called IE. Then there is the every now and then hangs coming out of suspend, the USB issues, etc.

Only real reason to upgrade for me now is PATA vs SATA drives. I just don't want to buy anymore PATA drives and only have one usb enclosure left, every other system in the house and any other external enclosures for the backups drives are SATA. It doesn't make sense to have one be different so I can't swap around as needed.

Sadly Dell doesn't have any 12" any more, the smallest is 13".

My Nvidia graphics card!!! GRRRRRRR It crashed 3 times today while playing Battlefield!!! Never buying Nvidia again. AMD IS where I will go.

Stupid people on electric scooters. They'll try and ride "through" an ice patch like it's a puddle, which results in an inevitable spill. They'll pick themselves up and start looking for anything to blame but themselves.

I agree with you but not entirely...

It is not the Afrikaaners I hate... I finally understand why the system came about... I used to think it was crazy too... until I started to see why the black people's culture is so fracked up...

They go to the witch doctor instead of the scientific doctor to cure their "demons".

They believe in the "Tokoloshe" that lives under their bed... they were still in huts when we rocked up for a very good reason... people don't understand why it came about the "separateness" or "apartness" (which is what it stands for...).

They believe that raping a young girl or raping an old woman will some how "cure you" of HIV / AIDS because the "traditional healer" (LOLOLOLOL) told them so....

I now know why the system came about.

Their culture is crazy and weird... they also hate gays...

They are also extremely racist... they hate other people from the rest of Africa just because they come from different "tribes"...

But carrying on thinking they are peaceful and caring...

The news has mind controlled you very well.

And no.

Before you call me a racist please think very very very very carefully... think again... think deeper...

I HATE it.

But if some one's thinking and belief patterns are beyond scary and totally conflict western freedom thinking and progress... you are going to have 1 hell of a problem on your hands with this insane culture... so now I welcome you to the rape capitol of the world... with open arms...

People that have multiple wives... and are a rapist - just like our president grrrrrrrrrind my gears...

Mind control and twisting the truth grinds my gears.

Islam allows 4 wives, and the Mormons had multiples before polygamy was banned. We still have an outlaw sect that believes in plurality.

Some of it made sense years ago in societies with more females than males. Not today, although I told the Vulcan he could bring home whoever as long as she liked doing housework.

Straight talk cust service and tech grind my gears its sad you have to escalate to top tier tech to even speak to someone sensible. If this was not my sis i would so not be dealing with this
