Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I volunteer 8 hours a week at my local animal shelter, am a foster parent of 2 dogs and 1 cat to help relieve the load off the shelter to save 3 animals at a time from euthanasia, have suffered through 4 losses of foster pets whom I loved with all my heart due to illnesses, and help the shelter get animals adopted into loving homes by taking shelter dogs to loca events on weekends. I've volunteered over 250 hours throughout my high school career at the animal hospital in my hometown. I eat poultry, beef, and fish. I used to be vegetarian for 3 years and vegan for 1 year. I dare anyone to say that I don't genuinely care for and love animals. I absolutely love animals and do whatever I can for my shelters that I'm apart of. I hate it when vegetarian calls anyone who eats meat as people who doesn't truly love animals. Ive done so much more for animals than so many of them have done... And i mean in actual activism and actions, not just giving up meat. As a former vegetarian, I understand what it means to be vegetarian. I am sick and tired though of preachers. Do the nonpreaching vegetarians a favor a not paint a bad image for all vegetarians because preaching only annoys and doesn't do ANYTHING for people who already don't want to "convert".

People who expect me to stay late to work on their car when they are late for an appointment that was slated hours prior to their arrival, and have the gall to expect the work to be done before the "end of the day, even though they showed up AT the end of the day. Oh, and these are the ones that ALWAYS complain about how high the bill is....

HI THERE.

This is the What really grinds your gears? thread.

This is not the ignore a-not-hard-to-follow-previous-warning from mod staff, above, thread.

This is not the act sanctimonious and take pot shots at each other thread.

This is the thread where one more iota of that gets you a whole new thing to complain about - by yourself, on vacation from the forums.

Posts have been deleted.

Now cool it.

People who get their canines from breeders. Please don't! They're are so many shelter dogs who would absolutely love to be in a caring and loving home. Too many euthanasias have to be performed simply due to massive overcrowding.

Also... Do your local shelter a favor and spay/neuter your pet! You'll be saving lives. Isn't that a great thought? :D

I agree, i also would prefer to go to a shelter. Never much cared for the breeder culture, but that is just me.
Plus, Bob Barker is the man:D

OR, if you really really want a purebred for whatever reason... adopt from a local rescue. I know of someone who rescues Bengal cats when people find out that the precious little "mini-leopard" actually requires care and doesn't want them anymore (grr... that's the ranty part of this). There are a LOT of purebred rescues for older animals, or ones given up by people who moved somewhere they couldn't take them, or found out they had genetic predispositions that were hard to care for. So "always wanted a <specific breed>" is NO excuse at all.

And continuing the ranty part... if you are not prepared to fully take care of an animal, from the tiniest mouse to the largest mastiff, DO NOT GET ONE. When you get an animal, you are taking a creature into your life that is trusting YOU to provide its care. You are making a promise to accept responsibility for a LIFE. It is not "just an animal"... if you think that, DO NOT GET ONE.

People that try to over-talk you. Meaning, you start to talk and they then start talking immediately over top of you.

Just had a kid in to get his eyes looked at. Every time I started to explain to his mother(women are by far the worst at doing this), she'd ask a question, interrupting me. This went on numerous times and I just quit talking.
At the end she goes: "I'm going somewhere else next time because you aren't telling me anything".

Uh.....................thanks? :p

I agree with all of you.

My pet peeve is...
My mother is not computer literate and she is the worse person you want to help because if it doesn't work she thinks it is the machine's fault, not her!!!!

Devices that doesn't work for you but "obviously it works for the employer" I get that bit all the time. So I bring it home thinking the person knows what he/she says and then just turn around to bring it back. I found you don't have to have much experience you just need to know how to sale it. :) :(
I go to the computer store here who actually knows what they are talking about. And when I talk to them of the specs I want, they don't look down at me "I am a woman I guess I am suppose to be stupid when it comes to gadgets like these" :(
sorry if offends. But tried not to.

I can sympathize. I used to get that all the time when I had my Spitfire.
I rebuilt the damn engine, I should know what kind of oil filter I want.

I am never living at my current apartment complex again. The internet is absolutely terrible.

I can somewhat relate. I drive a 1966 Buick. 1966 was also the last year that my engine was produced. Buick changed to a completely different engine in 1967. Parts are not compatible from one to the other. Totally different in every possible way.

When I go to an auto parts store to get something, they insist that I have a completely different engine and will even go so far as to either argue it with me, or attempt to force the wrong parts upon me because they think they know what's under my hood. I even persuade them to come outside and see the engine for themself, and then they argue with me that someone swapped the engine in my car. WTF.

All they know is what the store computer tells them, and because of that, they think they know everything there is to know about car repair.

This has happened more than once, and has happened enough times that I stopped going to auto parts stores unless I am desperate. I just order anything I need online.

People that ask why I'm putting diesel fuel in my diesel VW and I tell them it's a diesel. Then they say.
"It will run on diesel, too?"

Aye yi yi.

It blows me away that people are oblivious to the fact we are rapidly depleting our natural resources. How pissed will everyone be when they have to drink recycled urine?
