Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I do a lot of social networking, but then this isn't anything to do with online gaming and just about all whom I've network with are known to me for real.

I think YouTube comments used to be one of the worse places for anonymous trolls, keyboard warriors and other nasty things, and definitely NSFW. Any videos I uploaded, I always disabled commenting, as it just didn't interest me in the slightest.

I use social networking for my musical endeavors; i.e., marketing. However, it is presently limited to Twitter and YouTube. My goal is to have my own website in the near future for the same thing - marketing my music, to get recognition in the biz.

My musical dreams haven't died.

As far as gaming is concerned, I'd love to own a PS4, to play games that challenge the mind, and, games like Gran Turismo - to take care of my 'automotive jones'.

Back when I was raising my kids, and still had a Mac, I got into games like Unreal Tournament, and Quake III Arena - but that was as far as I would go with first person shooter games, as I was trying to create a kinship with my son, as that was what his generation was into.

Games like Grand Theft Auto aren't my cup of tea (for obvious reasons), and any gaming that denigrates women holds no interest for me, at all. My generation was into pinball - when I was young, bulletproof, and filled with testosterone.

I know that times have changed, and gamers are going to play what they want. Some of these games, like Call Of Duty, glorify war - and when you have people in the military coming back home mentally and physically damaged from our recent conflicts, it just breaks my heart.

War, in my humble opinion, is just wrong. I grew up straddling the '60s as a youngster, and the '70s as a teen. As a kid, I watched the news coverage of a generation protesting the war in Vietnam, bludgeoned by over-zealous law enforcement in the streets of America. I remember soldiers coming back from Vietnam, being called 'child killers' (and they were following orders).

From social networking, to gaming, and my feelings about war - I guess that I've covered the aforementioned, in a scatter-shot fashion. In my defense, I had a high-school reading level in the third grade, and - I still possess an uncanny memory.

I do, however, believe in the power of love, above all things.

More love, anyone? LW

Ugh, the phone calls on the job have been non-stop the whole day. The first Monday of the month is always the worst. I've already seen it coming though.

Okay... Time to RANT about my Managers... Again.

Few months ago, my Store Manager promoted another co-worker of mine. She was good at the time and probably deserved it. I was considered Third for management position after her and another person who recently quit.

So since she became manager, she's been worse than a regular crew member. She's a manager, and she doesn't show up for work. This has happened multiple times so far, and yet, my Scheduling manager/Store manager just let's it all slide and puts her back on the schedule, even though she is making it hell for some of my other managers because they have to do overnight shifts when they are not scheduled.

She, (and with all respect for her, she's a great person, really fun to work with) needs to be fired. There comes a point where fun and games need to end and she needs to take on her role as a manager and start acting like it. If she can't handle that, she either needs to be demoted, or fired.

mini-rant

I really want to see Interstellar, but I can't stand Matthew McConaugney. I always thought he was annoying, but now that he's in those Lincoln commercials, he's insufferable.

Come on, Christopher Nolan. You could get anybody to be in your movie! Why this guy?

Stewie sums it up, unfortunately this is the best quality I could find of it on YouTube.

Matthew McConaughey on a made-for-pay-cable TV series (HBO) AFTER ubiquitous film roles, and now... Lincoln commercials. He's the first that I've ever seen as an "A-List" actor making "B" and "C-List" career decisions. Gmash, the writing may already be on the wall for Matthew... Stewie has spoken  - so, let's cut the guy some slack. Hearing him say "...something deep and dark..." in a syrupy Southern accent was enough for me... LW

Sometimes, store managers move people up so that their own schedule (the store manager's) gets a break, for whatever reason. Since you're now a part of the "co-manager's club", submit your complaint as an 'observation' and your belief that this employee needs to be fired and/or demoted as a 'suggestion'.

This is the way it is done in the 21st century... get support from other employees being affected from this employee who is nice, but, calls in to get off from working. Get it all in writing. You know the drill, sfbb - and I wish for you all of the best in luck - maybe you'll get some favorable results. LW

That's what happened to me today, except that I absolutely HATE my new schedule. And by the time I get home, I don't have time to do anything.

Ghostly One, may tomorrow bring good things for you. I just got back home after dealing with the trash dump/recycling center, and dealing with rude, preoccupied people at the supermarket. Twenty items or less means exactly how it's written at the checkout, and this beastly-looking woman with facial hair had THREE carts full of groceries. I complained to management - they opened another checkout counter just for me and my lady... apparently, the cashier was friends with the beastly woman, and kept glaring at me. I glared right back, and was leaving the store while the Speedy Checkout was still in a traffic jam. People need to learn to read, or learn some manners... LW

The idiotic garbage men just managed to pull up the end post of the split rail fence, and ruin the metal handle that the truck lifts by on the container in one fell swoop!

Someone will fix the fence tomorrow, and they will have to replace the container. They damaged it, we didn't.

zuben, I truly believe within the end of this decade that there will be such a thing as a "Stupid License"... municipalities, boroughs. and counties in every state here in the USA will have yet another form of POINTLESS revenue... at any rate, I hope that the fence is on their dime... LW

I love video games. Been playing them since the Atari 2600 days. I like the single player, offline games. I play to relax after work and don't want to deal with the online idiots. Never heard of Gamergate, but it sounds like a bunch of ridiculous online trolls getting their jollies from hiding behind their keyboards and scaring women. Pathetic. Reminds me why I don't do social networks. Always turns into junior-high school level drama.

Apparently they are in politics too. Some reporter asked the same question about congresscritters that want to curtail women's rights at a news conference on national TV. Needless to say, question got passed over.

Well, Forum Runner kept crashing... so, hello to everyone from Tapatalk. I hope that everyone is having a great weekend, and may my fellow rantmeisters prove to be mighty, and magical  LW

sfbb, that was one surprise of a post... if I were your sister, I'd be sooooo pissed... nice one, sfbb - keep us on our toes - LW

Between kid and the Vulcan, that was the story for years in a car. It got to be a pain with the damn electric windows. The Vulcan could hit all of them.

She drove a school bus for a while, and would wait until the bus was straining to go uphill and let go.

huh, $350 is about an average expense (for four) for a play that is produced by most theater companies in larger cities; like you said, you're frugal... yet, even paintball can get up there (when I was raising my kids in the early 2000s, I spent close to that figure because they didn't want to STOP). Find a local drama company that has reasonable ticket prices, and you can add culture to your bucket list of what you did for your kids. If you already took them to the aforementioned play, I hope that it was enjoyable, and, worth it.

That was something my parents did for me, back when "Jesus Christ Superstar" was all the rage... and, it was something that I've never forgotten (though, one week later, they - our school - took us on a field trip to go see "Godspell"). It was good, but my parents attempt won out. Though, I still play the song "Day By Day" in my personal repertoire...

They're only young once... but, the pocketbook's important, too... LW
