Root [Release] Android 2.2 Froyo for the Droid X

BTW, the newest version of bootstrapper works in Froyo :D

100% confirmed? so we can now make backups from our froyo and then recover back to our 2.1 backup? new to this whole backup thing and just making sure. not sure if it's that simple with the different kernels involved.

Coming from an unrooted device I'd say overall it's fine but seems to feel a little slower in normal use. I'm not getting a lag-less unlock screen like some others have reported so maybe it's something with my phone. It's not unusable by any means, just not the quickness I was expecting. Flash seems to exceed expectations however, and it's nice to have access to additional 2.2 features/apps, so overall I'm happy. But I'm still wanting an official release.

This is an official release. Just leaked. It's digitally signed by Motorola, which is why you can go into regular recovery and flash it instead of a bunch of workarounds.

BUG REPORT

So I got into settings>battery manager and then i click on the battery image and I get
SORRY, The application settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Any ideas?

Ok guys. Figured it out.

IF YOU LOST ROOT BECAUSE YOU COPIED su INSTEAD OF MOVING IT:

Full instructions on my blog: here

EDIT: 1. Open terminal and make sure su exists in /system/xbin/su and run it to get a root terminal. You should see a #
2. Run "mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/system /system"
3. Run "cp /system/bin/su /system/bin/su.bak"
4. Run "cd /system/bin/"
5. Run "rm su"

You now have root again.

If you screw this up, you will seriously screw things up, so do this at your own risk, and be careful.

Thanks for this, I'd like to try it out (as I lost root) but after the update, in the terminal when I type ADB devices, my phone is not listed anymore. I have the Moto driver installed, and I tried to install the SDK USB driver but it's not working. Any thoughts? Anyone?

So did everyone see Koush's tweet?

Update to bootstrap 1.0.0.3 (available in market or at his website)

Download this Froyo:

Update with Clockwork recovery. You will retain root and not have to worry about uninstalling the bootstrapper.

AFTER you have upgraded bootstrap app to 1.0.0.3 and run the bootstrap recovery, install Froyo in clockwork: http://bit.ly/9FK8h1

Actually I got it working, I went into device manger uninstalled the x then updated it with the usb drivers from google adb v3

Yea that makes sense cause you updated the drivers. I guess I assumed everything would be as before so I could just run adb.

Can we go into Titanium backup and "refreeze" the bloatware that was frozen before (the approved list)? Or is that not safe to do at this point?

You may have to install busybox to use Titanium Backup.

Stericson has an app in the market to do this though, it's just called 'Busybox'

I guess restoring Launcher Pro off of my Titanium Backup was a bad idea. Looks like my phone won't start itself back up now. Makes me sad... time to reflash, I guess. Man, that's such ass. Don't even get the Droid Eye, just the Motorola Logo... Not liking this update so far. :(

has anyone tried deleting thos .obex files that was put into the system/app folder?

ok im in a bootloop now lol after i deleted those .obex files that was duplicat :O

Oops, too late, but you can't delete those!

There are tools that can deodex the ROM though, so I may try that later tonight when I get home.

Themes will require the ROM to be deodexed anyways.

i tried to redo the update.zip but it gives me this e:error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 2) installation aborted...is there anyway to get out of the bootloop so i can flash the sbf?

the rsd lite won't pick up my phone when its in bootloop /cry

You need to boot into the Boot Loader for RSD Lite, NOT the Recovery.

Turn off the phone, then hold Power+Volume Down+Camera at the same time while turning it on.

you flash it in bootloader, pull battery, when you turn it on hold power, volume down and camera then release it then flash sbf with rsd

Koush says to get Rom manager version 2.0.2.4...but the market only has the previous version available....
