Root [Release] Android 2.2 Froyo for the Droid X

I have a rooted phone, but it's still pretty stock (didn't delete anything) and I haven't installed bootstrap yet. So I have two options on moving forward: 1) I can use the update.zip file (with all of the caveats about moving su, etc), or I can use Clockworkmod.

Yes. :) Both work, the clockwork mod style with root, then bootstrap, then clockwork mod is pretty easy and straightforward.
 
I tried to install using the first posts instructions, but couldn't complete the update.zip install because of a "logwrapper" blah blah blah...

I am now trying the ROM Manager route, will that fix it?

Also, I deleted koush's .apk
 
Another stupid question from someone who has not rooted yet.

Can I just follow the base 2.2 update instrusctions, and then use the .apk program fabulous posted to achieve root after the 2.2 upgrade, or do I have to do root first on 2.1, and then follow the root retaining instructions to upgrade to 2.2?

If possible I'd rather just upgrade to 2.2 first, and then once I know I'm stable on it, then root.

I've built PCs before, but working on smartphones is a bit dirfferent, and somewhat a learning curve.

I thought Koush's apk was needed for ROM manager to work?

Hmmm, that's not good. What did you do during the interval between when it was working and when it stopped? Did you reboot your phone inbetween? Install any apps? Change any settings?

I did the 2.2 update about an hour ago and I've been in Battery Manager several times without issue. However, I have not rebooted my phone again nor I have I really changed much of anything. I have, however, gotten Wireless Tether to work just fine. And so far as I can tell, Launcher Pro, Launch X Pro, and Widget Locker are all working fine as well.
 
So I just saw someone somewhere post that this release does not have the Dalvic JIT included. Is this true, and is there any way we can verify its presence / absence?
 
So I installed the update.zip without taking any steps to retain root, so of course now that 2.2 is installed I no longer have root. I did a cache wipe and data wipe, then setup RSD Lite to flash the 2.1 SBF onto my phone so I can follow the procedures to keep root while upgraded to 2.2.

When I click start on RSD Lite, I am getting a failed flash process error.

"Phone[0000]: Phone is not compatible with multi-interface super-file. (0x703B); phone connected"

Does anybody have any suggestions for me? Also, the device properties are showing a lot of N/A in the place of version numbers, IMEI/ESN/MEID, etc.
 
I think I asked this earlier and don't recall seeing a response. With Rom Manager or just normal clockwork recovery now, can I easily move from the backup of my 2.2 to 2.1 and back to 2.2? I am not positive if I would be able to do it that way or if I would have to use the SBF to go back to 2.1
 
Okay, I'm an idiot. My market was screwed up after I updated so I wanted to revert to 2.1 and start over. I couldn't get RDS Lite to recognize my phone so I tried to restore a nandroid of 2.1 that I made before flashing 2.2. Bad Idea. The recovery image was switched to 3e and I don't think the system likes that very much. I am currently stuck on the white Moto logo but I can get into Recovery and Bootloader. The update.zip fails to flash, I'm guessing because of the recovery version. Bottom line I need to figure out a way to get RSD to recognize my phone. Does it not work at all with XP Pro? I tried both of the driver versions posted at rootzwiki but nothing works.

Looks like ill have to flash the sbf, unfortunately I don't have it or really know the steps to do this, if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
 
i tried putting the update.zip on sdcard, went in to recovery, then tried to apply the update and it said i had a error. it said some about "blurmotoalarmclock.apk" or something like that..
